Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

You people consider Wolf a clone though, how would Crystal be any different? Her normals would be completely unique, but she'd just blast from her staff, user her staff to charge, etc. She could easily fit the same format as the other Starfox characters even if she got her staff (which she never actually used in game aside from Adventures' intro sequence - as soon as she's on the ground, with the player controlling her, there's no staff).

And yet Rosalina was ignored by the NSMB series and took years to actually start consistently getting in spin offs outside of Mario Kart. Personally, I've always thought it was odder that many Mario spin offs for a while seemed to ignore the Galaxy games.

To be fair those games ignored peach too, and gave us two toads.

So there are a lot of questions that need to be made as regards to character selection in that game.

But I would like turn my attention to something.

How can I get this in the new Smash Bros

As the years go on, older Nintendo series will become relevant again (see: Kid Icarus, Sin and Punishment, Punch-Out), so I don't see that becoming too much of a problem.

You think so? I personally don't like him but he is a unique character.

I'm not a huge fan, but I can see why he got in the game and think he was a good addition. He got a lot of love in Brawl too such as SSE as well as being the big surprise secret character of the game. I just find it odd to expect him gone given the spotlight Sakurai gave him.

why hello there spellcheck

edit: I see you got in the edit

I wanna see like, a "Nintendo Kid" or something. Comes with NES Zapper and Power Glove, Super Scope 6, and he chucks Virtual Boy's at you.

Top it all off with a R.O.B. assist Final Smash, and we are good.

RE: ROB:

R.O.B.%3B_Robot(Clear).png

Everyone who wants ROB to go has incredibly poor taste in what makes characters unique and compelling. ROB is both, and will no doubt return unless Sakurai finds himself incredibly strained for time/space.

RE: The Koopa Clown Car:

It should be an item. The good guys could commandeer one in the final boss battle in NSMBU. In Smash Bros., players could hop into it and fly around the sky, (almost) out of reach, and lob bombs onto the battlefield, or maybe dive-bomb the others.

what is this, the Nintendo failure list
final smash should be dropping a Wii U on the field, the bombas automatically KO everyone

Rosalinda sounds like a soap opera character.

Spending 30 minutes just deciding what Pokemon to play as, would be the best game ever no joke.

Wouldn't fighting with baby pokemon considered illegal

They have and will continue to use them as buzzwords, epically lucario.

The thing about buzz phrases is that they don't have to make sense. Nor do they have to be used for an unpopular party.

Like sonic recolor.

It makes NO sense, put it is regurgitated, and sonic games( sans lost world for obvious reasons) and characters like shadow and sonic still do well and get requests. Like I said Dat Shadow itis.

So in the end it's all about buzzwords.

This game should release.

soon.

pls

But I'll miss Smash 4 madness :(

I mean, I hear Smash 4 madness isn't the same as Brawl madness back then, and only the last thread was archived.

It made sense why they did it. SM3DW is partly a homage to SMB2 so we get Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad. NSMB series is a homage to the likes of SMB, SMB3, and SMW. The main plot of those 3 games were save Peach from Bowser so to keep the homage Peach remains a damsel in distress. Yoshi is a power-up like in SMW, and characters like Wario or Daisy weren't a part of those classic games so they are left out. Mario and Luigi get their spots, as do the two Toads justifyingly. Toad is one of the original 5 SMB characters (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Bowser) so he will always have a presence in the platformers.

Meh I think ROB is stupid but it would be even more stupid to cut him.

Why are (some) people here so obsessed with cutting characters? Is it because then if they're counting to 56 (or whatever) they can get closer to their dream roster?

Not bringing over an old character would not free up enough resources to replace it with an entirely new character.

Also, the only non-clone character to ever get cut was Mewtwo, which was pretty last minute as far as we know, and was from a franchise that would have had 5/7 playable reps if he was included.

No. There's no question. Peach is physically taller and plays and animates differently from Mario and Luigi. NSMB 4-player wanted the players to have equal abilities, and Toads being about the same size and moving similarly made sense.

But they reintroduced the different abilities in 3D World, so Peach was a shoe-in. They also fixed the character size issue by making 3D World Peach way shorter than she should be.

Koopalings can be riding that as a stage hazard by dropping Bob-ombs if we ever get a stage set in Bowser's Castle.

Why don't we have a bowsers castle or a DeDeDe wrestling ring stage yet.

Why isn't that boxing ring a DeDeDe wrestling ring instead.

So in the end it's all about buzzwords.

Yes.

They can lesson the homagining in those games.

Oh yeah, who are the survivors from the old brawl threads? Could someone describe how they were? The single archived thread only captured the later era of the madness.

I don't understand the obsession with cutting characters, either.

Every character that is already made is cherished by someone somewhere, and represents a tremendous amount of design work and imagination. If Sakurai and company went through the trouble of making them then, why would they scrap them now, when the process of updating their assets is far less time-consuming than the creation of a new character?

Sakurai said in an interview around the time of Kid Icarus that a core group had already begun porting over all of Brawl. I'm sure they have every intention of bringing back all 39 characters that were in Brawl. And during Brawl, they had intentions of bringing back Mewtwo and Roy. It's quite possible we'll see them, too.

Sakurai takes the "everything and the kitchen sink" approach with his games. This is his fourth time around the block with Smash Bros., and this time he's backed by the colossal game-making muscle of Namco-Bandai's best teams. Yes, he's making two games instead of one, but the core roster is shared between the two.

There's no reason why he wouldn't aim to bring back the 41 veterans (Brawl + Mewtwo and Roy). Konami might not allow Snake, but Sakurai will surely want to bring him back. Sakurai would want to bring back every character, especially the ones that are truly unique, which Snake, ROB, Ice Climbers, etc, most definitely are.

They did to an extent. Bowser Jr. joined the Koopalings ranks and Nabbit is an original character that became playable in NSLU.

I suppose, though I would just like to play as peach or whoever else.

Actually I would like to play as bowser JR in a mario game. I need him to mad at his dad for some dumb reason so I can wreck his shop with his son.

I wouldn't expect it to happen, but one Mario character I think would be a rather neat newcomer from a gameplay standpoint is Birdo:

Her main ability would be to fire egg projectiles. They'd move moderately fast and hit hard. But the cool thing is that you could land on them and ride them with a well-timed jump. Perhaps her Smash Attack could spit out fireballs instead (as per SMB2).

She's appeared in Subcon stages in past Smash Bros. I definitely don't expect to see her ever made playable, and I wouldn't exactly argue for her, because there are other Mario characters that are more "qualified."

I just think she'd be fun. :)

Isn't Birdo a guy?

It's more so considered a genderless species at this point. Brawl's Birdo trophy seems to indicate this.
Ah, you're right. In Melee, Birdo was a "her," but as of Brawl, it's "indeterminate gender."

Super Smash Bros. Melee

First seen in Super Mario Bros. 2, Birdo is known for shooting eggs and fireballs from her mouth. Mario and friends would have to jump on to the eggs in midair, pick them up and throw them back at her. Long missing from the Nintendo scene, Birdo recently reappeared in Mario Tennis and Super Mario Advance

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

A pink creature of indeterminate gender that some say would rather be called Birdetta. A big ribbon on its head is its most distinguishing feature. In Super Mario Bros. 2, you can return fire on Birdo by jumping on the eggs shot from its mouth. Be careful not to get psyched out by fake-egg fireballs!

It was in the first edition manual of the North American version of Super Mario Bros. 2 that Birdo was referred to as a male who believes he's a female. Lol.
Oh really? I didn't know that carried over to America. He... uh, it... was changed to female in promotions for Mario Tennis 64, etc. And I guess it's genderless now.

When Nintendo designs a game system, they also allot a maximum number of slots for Smash Bros. characters. There's only 45 character slots for the Wii U as developers have confirmed. That's why Toon Link is such an outrage, because Sakurai's just going to waste half the slots on clone characters.

Did they ever explicitly call her a girl short of Captain Rainbow? She was paired with Yoshi in Mario Tennis 64, but he's a guy who lays eggs.

That thread is only one meta-thread for Brawl because in old time, there is no such a rule for post limitation(20k post per thread rule set up way after brawl hype. That's why there are not many threads for brawl.

No one ever said they were limited to 45 character slots.

It was called male on the European site for Mario Strikers Charged Baseball too. Apparently nobody knows. Lol.

you're bad at Poe's Law
like, this isn't even convincing at all

wasn't the 2010 World Cup thread one of the reasons the 20k rule got implemented
