Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

I would fucking love Birdo as a character. She could charge up an egg with stationary special.
Birdo could surf on an egg as a recover move. It could spit eggs others could hop on and throw back. It could charge up for supersize eggs or rapid-fire eggs. It could spit the fake-out fireballs, etc. Lots of potential.

But yeah, Birdo doesn't seem likely.

That thread is only one meta-thread for Brawl because in old time, there is no such a rule for post limitation(20k post per thread rule set up way after brawl hype. That's why there are not many threads for brawl.

Wait, that whole thread is the whole brawl thread?

How... surprisingly tame compared to other sites.

It was a bright spot of relative sanity, back when GAF was a lot smaller and a bit less prone to running its mouth over every little thing. edit: it was also actively moderated.

wasn't the 2010 World Cup thread one of the reasons the 20k rule got implemented

I'm not exactly sure when the rule went into effect, but the dojo thread was what alerted everyone to the fact that the database has an upper limit to the number of posts it can handle gracefully. It's still in gaming instead of the archives because it's literally too big to move.

eat your heart out Ridley

lol

R.O.B. is one of Nintendo's most historically important characters, so I highly doubt he will be removed.

I personally hope to see Jill from Drill Dozer added to the roster as a retro character. She would be incredibly unique, acting as two characters that fight as one (unlike the Ice Climbers, Olimar, Pokemon Trainer, and Rosalina, who attack individually).

Jill in the Dozer could be slow-moving and heavy, but still be capable of fast attacks using her own fists to build up damage. With smash attacks that are not fully charged, Jill herself would use a fast attack that could cause lower knockback. Meanwhile, a fully charged smash attack would instead cause the Dozer to unleash a slower, yet more powerful attack.

Moves in the air could also strike in multiple directions. For example, using a forward air move would cause the Dozer to strike forward with an attack, while Jill would turn around in her seat and use a much weaker attack in the opposite direction.

There is just so much gameplay potential for this character! Plus, the Drill Dozer IP deserves more recognition.

I think if anyone is moving up from assist trophy to character, it will be Little Mac first.

You people consider Wolf a clone though, how would Crystal be any different? Her normals would be completely unique, but she'd just blast from her staff, user her staff to charge, etc. She could easily fit the same format as the other Starfox characters even if she got her staff (which she never actually used in game aside from Adventures' intro sequence - as soon as she's on the ground, with the player controlling her, there's no staff).

And yet Rosalina was ignored by the NSMB series and took years to actually start consistently getting in spin offs outside of Mario Kart. Personally, I've always thought it was odder that many Mario spin offs for a while seemed to ignore the Galaxy games.
Rosalina was in MKWii which came out about 6 months after SMG.

Edit: read your post wrong. Anyway you're right her character and SMG in general was so oddly left out and then came out in full force later.

Mewtwo is far more popular and representative of the Pokemon series than Lucario and I think his absence in Brawl while Lucario got in, led to this whole Mewtwo vs. Lucario nonsense. End of the day both Pokemon should make it in.

Agreed, both pokemon are more popular now more than ever.

Isn't he also one of the few assist characters with multiple attacks? I'd imagine those all have had more thought put into them than the others, though some I really doubt would ever be playable (Gray Fox, Ray Mk III).

What are the chances of getting Last Story's Zael as an Assist Trophy or at least a miscellaneous character trophy?

Shulk seems much more likely to appear. Personally, I'd like to see Aeron since his chain abilities makes him more unique than the other two by-the-numbers JRPG heroes.

So 1200 posts away from OT4. Who is making that one?

Look like I will.

I just hope he doesn't use a terrible subtitle.

I hope so too.

Pretty much guaranteed.

Naw, I asked people to make the suggestions in this thread, but I haven't seen any subtitle that I really love.

As long as he doesn't use YEAR OF SMASH

Naw, I wouldn't.

I think he wants to go with "Ridley me this, Batman!". Two Ridley puns in a row.

Nope, I'm not going to use that subtitle in first place. I was suggesting it in chatroom to see how people reacted, and I suspected people are tired of Ridley subtitle. That's why I posted in this thread to ask people to coming up with good subtitles.

I don't understand the obsession with cutting characters, either.

Every character that is already made is cherished by someone somewhere, and represents a tremendous amount of design work and imagination. If Sakurai and company went through the trouble of making them then, why would they scrap them now, when the process of updating their assets is far less time-consuming than the creation of a new character?

Sakurai said in an interview around the time of Kid Icarus that a core group had already begun porting over all of Brawl. I'm sure they have every intention of bringing back all 39 characters that were in Brawl. And during Brawl, they had intentions of bringing back Mewtwo and Roy. It's quite possible we'll see them, too.

Sakurai takes the "everything and the kitchen sink" approach with his games. This is his fourth time around the block with Smash Bros., and this time he's backed by the colossal game-making muscle of Namco-Bandai's best teams. Yes, he's making two games instead of one, but the core roster is shared between the two.

There's no reason why he wouldn't aim to bring back the 41 veterans (Brawl + Mewtwo and Roy). Konami might not allow Snake, but Sakurai will surely want to bring him back. Sakurai would want to bring back every character, especially the ones that are truly unique, which Snake, ROB, Ice Climbers, etc, most definitely are.
I remember Sakurai saying they might not have enough space to work with this time because of the 3DS version. He also said he might not be able to bring everyone back and apologized in advance. I would be very surprised if every Smash character ever will be in this game.

I honestly think you got the Snake situation backwards. Kojima really wanted Snake in Brawl so Sakurai considered it. However, Metal Gear Solid is even more irrelevant to Nintendo than before. Sakurai has stressed multiple times that he's not going to let any non-Nintendo character into the game and I feel that Snake would be very easy to cut if they really had to.

Honestly, I would of course like to have as many characters as possible, but at the same time I don't see the need to have clones. Marth and Roy/Ike, Ness and Lucas, Fox and Falco/Wolf, Ganondorf and Captain Falcon are too similar to each other. Seeing as they changed Bowser's moveset completely, I have hope they will do the same for some of these should they bring them back. However, if not, why waste space on characters that don't offer anything unique to the game?

We all have different visions of how the roster should be, but I guess that's the fun part of this thread.

It'd be really sad to see R.O.B removed from the roster, as mentioned before, unless Sakurai's team are hard pressed for time I doubt he'll be cut since he does represent quite well one era of Nintendo gaming, and whimsically, one of the less successful, but charming endeavors of the company, besides just packing in a whole load of all-stars, some with no history behind them.
