Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

So what is going to be done with the Star Fox voices? Brawl had their Assault voices (or reasonably close mimic voices in the case of different voice actors), but the only Star Fox game that has been released since was Star Fox 64 3D, which has a decidedly different set of voices than the Assault era. Fox's design is unchanged from Brawl, so there's reason to think they will have the same voices (though hopefully redone to sound newer), but who knows--this is also partially the localization's choice as well. They could potentially switch to the SF643D voices just because they are the most recent, but I have a really hard time hearing evil Brit Wolf's voice coming from Assault/Brawl Wolf.

I really hope they bring back the Star Fox Smash Taunts, its like the one new outlet the series' characters will have for like the next half decade. I am a little concerned what is going to happen with the stage/music representation of these non-retro series sitting in hiatus that haven't seen a new release since Brawl (Star Fox and F-Zero precisely). Hopefully they don't get cheaped out on content due to this.

I don't think Square will ever submit a full final fantasy character to a cross over game not made by them (aka game not named Dissidia or whatever they decide to call it from now on). Thats why you only see things like costumes (on Little Big Planet for example) in other games, and even those were seemingly a pain to be included (considering they were teased/promised for a long time and it took forever for them to be actually released). Thats how I see it at least. Square seem to be overzealous with their characters apparently. :P

I never said Mega Evolutions required more effort, just that they're a bigger deal. Zelda and Sheik definitely required more effort than any other character in Melee, but I wouldn't call them the face of that game. There's a difference.

More than anything else, Mega Evolutions were pushed significantly leading up to the release of X/Y. People went crazy for those announcements. They're probably the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Pokémon X/Y.
I point to my above statement.
Pokemon, as a whole, is far more than just battling and has demographics all over the place. Giving players the ability to play with and interact with their favorite Pokemon? In a game series/ world built upon this very idea of connecting with these creatures and geared towards kids? A feature that the series has been missing because it could only be done in 3D?

Yeah, pretty big deal for Pokemon games. Sure, making one Pokemon in the party go super saiyan is a nice feature for battles (which is why I suggested that maybe a Mega Lucario or Blaze could be what we get) but the games are far more than that for many people and they know it ... which is why they put in all that effort.

Saying Sylveon will get in because of Amie is like saying Milotic will get in because of Pokemon Contests / Berries.

Pokemon contest were never a big enough part of the game series to warrant any special treatment (which is why it's gone and has been for 2 gens now). It was just their attempt at pleasing female fans. And like I pointed out, those gens were more so defined by double battles/ P&M or Lucario. Plus, that's just one point on the list.

I wonder if Sakurai is going to do anything about the inevitable Miiverse upskirt screenshots. Maybe when you look up Rosalina's skirt all you see are stars.

The rumored "Tekken" style fighting game? Totally wrong engine, for Pokemon.

Is this really a thing? Can someone fill me in?

None of this is important and you know it

I'm still not seeing what's so special/important/groundbreaking about Pokémon-Amie, but whatever. Mega Evolutions will always be the defining new mechanic of X/Y for me. Let's agree to disagree.

What if you want to see that melt down.

...good point. Do it Sakurai! Burn Miiverse to the ground! I'll get the popcorn. The mods there won't know what hit them.

It's not anything (yet). GameFreak / TPC currently denies that it's anything significant. They did file two or so trademarks though.
And people connected that with the 5 seconds of footage from that Pokemon event showing Lucario and Blaziken.

I remember one rumor saying it was going to be some sort of NFC-type deal, like Skylanders, as opposed to a fighting game.

Like the trademarks was Pokken Fighters, supposedly the figures, and Pokken Arena, the actual game, iirc.

finally got my Wii U, can't wait for this!
got two Wii U Pro Controllers as well! ready for a good time with my friends and family :D

(I totally skipped Brawl :X)

That's incorrect, because Aime is a function in X/Y, which uses newly created polygonal models for each Pokemon. Everything has been created from scratch in the first place, and I'm sure they rigged universal animations for each Pokemon's models. Something you can't do with hand drawn sprite-work.

Also, Aime isn't as big of a deal as a form changing, stat altering power-up, something Pokemon has never featured until Gen 6.

Not sure what your point for the first part is. Yeah, everything in the game was newly created. Without Amie you literally don't have to do a ton of animations or research (both of which = more time and money being spent).

And the games have had forms that change the appearance/ stats/ typing of a Pokemon before this gen.
None of this is important and you know it
I think I will take GF actions over your opinion.
I love Pokemon ... but I see GF as one of the laziest devs on my like list. For them to make this feature and go through with it shows how important they think giving players interaction with their Pokemon is.

I love tekken and Pokemon.

Take that as you will. =u=

A Tekken Pokemon game would and will be amazing.

So a game engine with a poor jumping mechanic straight out of Virtual Fighter; suedo old school "3D" gameplay (i.e. side stepping), all around slow gameplay more suitable for humans and not animals capable of flight, teleportation, Beams of various forms of energy, etc etc...

Have you guys not seen a Pokemon battle (refer to films for how crazy they can get)? Since when do they stay mostly stationary? Smash's Engine is PERFECT for a Pokemon battle.

Unless the game focuses on fighting type Pokemon, who's only moves involve punching and kicking, and really minor "projectiles" cause Tekken's suck.

You said they had to add animations, as if they used resources from the previous games. And I assure you it's cheaper and less time consuming to use polygons versus sprites.

Man, this thread is almost at 20K already? You guys are nuts

Might as well post this before the thread closes

Awesome ! =D

Everyone knows Soul Calibre > Tekken. SC is much more fluid.

I like Soul Calibur much more ... but Tekken fits pokemon MUCH more than a weapon based system =P

Sure, we can agree to disagree.

I know there's different fans for Pokemon. Some are the "turn off all animations for battles and ignore everything not helpful to PvP" types where as many find enjoyment in many other ares of the games.

But I WILL argue that anything that helps build the sense of an engaging world for a game where so many fans will be drawn into the game via "the world" is a really big deal ... which is why Amie had to happen and be done right.

Which is also why I'm sure I'm far from being alone when I say "petting 3D Pokemon" is the main thing I remember about XY.

Sakurai will probably do something Christmas-related for the 25th, right?

What's the most christmas-y Nintendo thing?

It's gonna have like 40 or less.

Why do you think that?

Brawl had 35 (technically 39 with the Starter Pokemon, ZSS, and Sheik as separate), we have 4 newcomers, plus three rumored ones which seem pretty likely to be true, and no real sign any character's gonna get cut except perhaps Snake. So we're already around 40 as it is.

A. Dev time
B. This quote.
It isn’t a matter of ‘if the next game has 50 characters, that’ll be enough.’ There is a certain charm to games that have huge casts of playable characters, but they tend to have issues with game balance and it becomes very difficult to fine-tune each character and have them all feel distinctive…. In terms of quantity, we’ve probably already reached the limit of what’s feasible. I think a change of direction may be what’s needed.

I honestly think a lot of characters from Brawl will get axed for new characters.
