Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

it's a game that you can easily surpass 500 hours with it. And most of these hours will be quite intense. I'm not sure that 3DS could survive that.
I really don't understand this point. You know New Leaf has an achievement for playing the game for 500 hours*.

*in your town so it's actually closer to 600.

New Leaf is a lot more relaxed than Smash Bros. I trust Nintendo's build quality for the 3DS but the Thumbpad and the shoulder buttons will get more than a work out thanks to Smash.

None of which have the analogue stick across from the buttons
Is that really a big deal? A difference of an inch?

Well I guess I'm not the kind of person who breaks controllers. Even my old SNES pads still work.

My 3DS has survived hundreds of Street Fighter and Monster Hunter.

They are intensive games, and my Circle Pad is just fine.

IntelliHeath, might I suggest that you request a mod to close the old thread to prevent more people from posting in it?

Not necessarily breaking controllers but more long term damage. Unless i'm mistaken a damaged thumbpad/shoulder buttons means the 3DS gets sent to Nintendo as opposed to a damaged controller which can be replaced easily (Excluding the Gamepad right now lol :/).

Can't speak for Street Fighter since i traded that in long ago but Monster Hunter at least from my Tri and Tri Ultimate experiences doesn't appear that Circle pad intensive unlike Smash would be.

Well, New Leaf is a quiet game. I've played 200+ hours in Kid Icarus Uprising and my 3DS did not survive it. The L button did not work after some time, while I managed to scratch the 3DS touch screen. And I'm actually quite careful when I play games on handhelds...

When fighting fast monsters, jolting the stick back and forth to escape harm is quite the intensive experience.

I'm aware of that but overall it still in my opinion isn't comparable to Smash and it's insistence on Smash attacks in every battle. Wasn't there a counter in Brawl that kept track of how many Smash attacks you used overall?

I'd expect that number to be fairly high for anyone who plays the game regularly.

Are we really arguing about which version to a game that hasn't been released, is better? Is there some secret beta testing group a few of you are aware of that the others, don't?

Anyway, both games will be different enough where it really won't be a straight 1:1 version of the games, if that much isn't apparent. Whatever strengths each has, will be highlighted. And that means graphics, gameplay, and whatever else Sakurai comes up with.

Can't we all [SmashGAF] just get along?

lighting improves everything

So pretty.

And btw, I havn't played Uprising yet, but these designs are beautiful. Really using that 3DS' power, too. And this Gaol guy looks pimp, and would fit in right next to Ganondorf on the villians list.

How do you guys think Smash is going to control with a diamond-shaped button layout? What would make the most sense?

D-Pad is also an option. Which is likely more accurate anyway, as I believe Smash doesn't use "quarter circle" or "half circle" spins before you attack ala Street Fighter.

I had a issue with my Animal Crossing 3DS XL where the R button was loose and I could never time screenshots right without difficulty and that was only after the first month. I think some 3DS or 3DS XL aren't of quality as some others.

It's similar to how some 3DS have yellow tinted screens and some don't. My Zelda 3DS had a yellow tinted screen yet my Animal Crossing 3DS XL didn't. I do notice all 3DS XL's have a wobble in the hinge if you shake it very so slightly. I've also had my Circle Pad stuck before when playing Pokemon X when I was using the Bicycle but I was able to pop it back in place. I guess it just depends really.

The Wii U Game Pad I got with my system at launch had a spiky L button that would hurt your finger if you touched it(part of the plastic was peeled), then the repair one they gave me had the same issue but on both sides, then they gave me a third one that finally was normal.

I've played Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl with these Diamond layout controllers:

Xbox 360
PS3
Classic Controller Pro

and what I tend to do is I map them in the Gamecube's layout. The controllers never end up being anywhere near as good for Smash as the Gamecube, but it's passable for me like this.

Don't care what the the control experience or whatever is going to be like, gonna get 3DS version because I want Smash on the go.

The only difference is that they downgraded the polygons on the 3DS version, and added the black character borders, but they use the same models/animations.

Colors and lighting are also different.

.
In a fighting game? Yes.

If it is like Brawl was with the Gamecube controller and Classic Controller then the D-Pad will not be usable for movement.

Better control and more precise control will obviously be the console version. I mean, I love my 2DS, and I will get both versions in time, but this device is not designed for a game of this nature.. Great for Pokemon and the ilk, but this D-Pad and Circle Pad, and small stiff buttons aren't gonna replicate the feeling of even the Gamecube controllers, and it's precision.

Speaking of GC Controller, I need to get those adapters, because I really don't know how I'll be able to adjust to whatever the Wii U has.

Yeah, that's what I figured would be the best option.

They should just cancel the Wii U and 3DS version and make it for iOS and maybe Android.
BlackBerry too dead.

I'd buy like 10 copies for a Angry Birds character.

omg

OMG

I just realized....

Candy Crush Saga Trophy! Would be the freakin' GOAT. Sakurai is such a dweeb for not porting to iOS.

Well damn, MK8's Rainbow Road is a 3DS stage. Wonder which versions of the song we'll get.

Makes me wonder if the Wii U version will get a different Mario Kart stage, considering there's more console versions than handheld.

Hm, curious, that's not the Rainbow Road from the Rosalina trailer. I can't imagine that they'd make a full track like that just for a trailer, so I have to wonder if the Wii U version has its own Rainbow Road stage.

But then again, who knows? But I would think that if there wasn't a Wii U version they just would have used the 3DS Rainbow Road for the trailer. Maybe.

The fitness studio shown in WFT's trailer isn't exactly like her playable stage, and neither is the town at the start of Villager's. I don't think it means anything. Rainbow Road looks different for the sake of the trailer's narrative.

Now I'm thinking about how there isn't a single Smash Bros. clone on mobile devices. That'd be pretty weird if there was a 'mobile' Smash type of game that had iOS/Android characters. lol

Don't really like when the stages are just flat platforms floating in front of an iconic location. I prefer when the stage feels more like you're fighting at the actual place. In this regard I think the Mario kart stage in Brawl was much better.

My least favorite Rainbow Road in the series (although it is the most visually distinct, which is good for Smash), but I love the idea of putting Rainbow Road as a stage, so I don't care which version they use.
Nintendo is kinda like BlackBerry, when you think about it
Except there are people who want Nintendo games.

But that stage was soooooooooooooo boring. Yes I know you aren't saying it was fun.

LOL. 10/10

The track was very simple in the trailer. It was made for trailer's sake.

If that's a track, that's piss-poor design.

Except Nintendo products actually have devout followings and Blackberry products are slowly losing their followings.

Nah, its been discussed in many topics here how the Nintendo fanbase is dwindling and nothing but the highly fanatical are being left. Which I guess your post kind of shows. As devout doesn't guarantee a constant amount of followers, just the reason someone chose to stick around.

As someone who owns bot a 3ds and wii u, I'd pick the wii u version everytime.the graphics are better its a fact it really doesn't matter if smash "looks good for a 3ds game" that doesnt really translate to looks better overall. The controls are almost certain to be better with wiiu given the number of control scheme options it is likely to have vs the 3ds which is already not the most comfortable thing to hold. The plus to the 3ds is that its portable but that would be negated if controls are meh. I just don't know why someone with both systems would opt for 3ds over the wiiu other. I'll still get both but if I had to choose between only one id go wiiu.

Well, for example... If you use Directional Influence or Smash Directional Influence (which you should!), you're gonna be jolting the circle pad in many motions quite a lot.

On higher levels Smash can really be quite intensive on the controls.

I'm gonna get both at some point, but the Wii U version will be top priority for me, as it will most likely be the tournament standard.

I'm going with both versions but I'm mostly sticking to the WiiU version for the home console experience (and I'm not much for how the 3DS version looks). The 3DS version is mainly to play with people who don't have the system.

I wouldn't use NeoGAF as a basis for generalizations. I see your point to extent, but NeoGAF's demography that's composed primarily of Males 18-50 that have a keen interest in the industry itself is gonna yield a skewed perspective on anything.
