They took him out of the game after getting the record, so he could have done the record much better. Kind of a humble move by the team to say continuing the records does not really matter to us.nope

Well.. that and they were up 31 - 0 against one or the worst teams in the NFL, with first-place locked up in a meaningless game. SUre, Manning could have put on 30, 40, 50 more yards to the record, or he also could have gotten injured and Denver's Super Bowl ambition would be out the window.
Agreed, you could probably go back to Brees' record setting season and find a handful of completions that maybe weren't... or maybe a pass that was really an incompletion but they called it complete and it wasn't over turned, etc.

Because Fox would have let him stay in for a few more plays to get the record. This was not a last second record he broke, he sat out an entire half. Unless you can say with a straight face that the Raiders could have held off the Bronco's offense to no passes the second half.

I'm a Pats fan and have no love for Manning or the Broncos, but he earned the record. If it was on the final play of the 4th quarter I'd agree with you, but he would have come back out and broken it by even more if it had been called right on the field.

That doesn't matter. It's not the "How many yards could someone have thrown for" record. It's about how many yards were actually thrown.
Brees sat out a lot the season he broke the record as well.
It definitely gets an asterisk when there is video proof that it was a backwards pass and the record wasn't broken.
The NFL just doesn't have much integrity.

This thread is great. Can't believe people think Brady is in consideration for goat. Peyton, obviously. But Brady? LOL, no. He won a Super Bowl by cheating and got schooled twice by Peyton's little brother. Brady has played like utter shit this year too. The first half of the season was ugly. He picked it up a little in the second half, but I think this year has definitely hurt anyone's argument that he's the goat.

They can rule it was a backwards pass when they rewind the game and give Manning another 30 minutes to break it. Usually a big fan of the asterisk, but the dude put up over 200 yards in the first half against the Raiders. He would have easily broken the record in the second half of the game.

Just because you screenshot a couple of pictures doesn't prove anything. How do you know what angle that shot was taken? This is exactly the same thing as the music city miracle. I could take screenshots of that pass showing it was a forward pass but it was ruled a lateral.

And through every game in 2011 Chase Daniels had a total of 5 pass attempts for 29 yards total. So yeah, let's give that to Brees and let Peyton have his half of football back to try to beat that.
That time that Brees sat out and 5 passes were thrown would really change the record outcome this year.
