I still say part 2 was better then part 1 simply because part 2 is plot focused instead of vignette waifu hunt and playing house which is literally half of part 1.

Good news for me, despite the hate (I am actually surprised at all of the hate, I didn't realize there was so much hate for it lol) in here I quite enjoyed Sword art online. Was the second half worse than the first sure... but at least it wasn't any where near accel world second half bad (though to be fair another season of accel world that actually remotely attempts to wrap up anything would be welcome).

I'm not a huge fan of the idea behind this arc, but ideally it will be an enjoyable ride... I wouldn't be surprised at all if it ended up being one of my favorite anime next year.

This will be dumbed down again.

Edit: I very much prefer the original LNs and i would say the best volume is Mother's Rosario

Plus they completely ignored plot points that were set up that could have prevented the asspulls.

Yeah. Why the fuck did the first arc fucking ignore the revival item that Kirito won near the very fucking beginning, and instead go for an asspull?

As I mentioned in the winter anime OT, the next arcs are supposedly decent. A lot of the hate here is mainly centered on that 2nd arc for ALO. GGO and Mother Theresa arcs are actually made out to be good. But go hate train anyway.

The first arc wasn't good. See my above rant about the QUALITY story telling. Why should GGO and MT be any better?

Why wouldn't there be a lot of hate for it? It has so many things that people detest about anime.

Focused on idealistic and awful young teenage romance.
Plot with a ton of asspulls.
Harem elements (though these are mild so I don't really count this as a point against the show).
Tentacle scene
Young girls given disgusting fanservice (what's that girl that Kirito helps get some flower to revive her pet? She looks like 9 years old and gets at least 6 underwear shots).
"Fake" real incest.

The show is quite frankly, embarrassing.

That's what pissed me off the most. I figured that we'd finally get a bit of decent story telling, a shining light in the darkness, but no. We just got shat on again.

I honestly expect it to be worse. I can only pray that Toonami never picks it up.

Fuck, a second one? I'm going to wait for this series to finish airing before I plow through it in a drunken haze, much like Guilty Crown.

I don't think they wouldn't animate every volume available, the original source isn't even finished yet

how? even after they spent an entire episode explaining the MMO itself the rules of it still came off as vague and unexplored.

Which rules are you talking about? There was an entire arc based around PK which had a little twist in the end.

The problem with the anime is that it doesn't hold true to the light novels, the pacing in it is complete garbage which results in them skipping through a lot of things. Not to mention ALO was a piling steam of excrement.

Hopefully with the success of the series they can fix these issues with the second season.

not once did i have a clear idea of how Sword Art Online as an MMO worked because weird little differences from what we would generally consider an MMO kept popping up. it might as well have been a fantasy world with menus as far as i was concerned.

Normally I agree with a lot of the opinions on GAF, but we part ways with Sword Art Online.
I completely loved the first season. It's now my favorite anime of all time, and I can't wait to see more of it.
I watch anime to be entertained, and goddamn did SAO ever do that in spades.
It kills me that the PSP and Vita games will never get localized.
At least the light novels are being brought over.

Sometimes when I browse GAF, I find a post that I can't make no heads or tails of. Not as in, grammatical sense (although it does happen) but a post referring to something that I see and have it in no way to relate it to any kind of objective reality I live in.

SAO being someone's -or anyone's, really- favorite anime, over literally anything the genre has to offer, both high brow and low brow, both known and underappreciated, both plot-centric or action extravaganzas; is one of such posts. I'm not even sure if I live on the same planet as this person. And if I do, please stop it because I want to get off.

Sword art is hilarious if youre watching drunk and on toonami.

There's a shit ton of stuff that is hilarious to watch when drunk. for example, my dog chasing his own tail. But if bobby is getting no show on toonami, let alone a second season, I don't know why should SAO get one.

Panty and Stocking is right the fuck there, Toonami. It has your same sense of humor. Get the rights to it god damn it.

Sadly they said it'd require so much censoring that they won't even bother. On the bright side it's getting SAMURAI JACK

Too awesome for TV, sadly.

Started watching SAO, and could tolerate it for the first few eps. But good god, after that.. I've seen Log Horizon mentioned a few times now, so might check it out.

The only thing I know about that show is DATABASE DATABASE JUST LIVING IN THE DATABASE WOH-OH

(My little brother hated SAO past the first three episodes because he's sane enough and seems to enjoy it without being overly positive.)

I remember at one point during the 2nd half of the series, Kirito turned into a
monster or a dragon or some other crap like that
for no reason at all. I think the explanation that was given at the time was something akin to "hax", but I hope I'm mis-remembering it.

Although I did pause the episode at that exact moment and close the tab.

Probably because much like Twilight, it prints money. They took out a full 2 page spread in a nationwide newspaper in Japan today, to announce that the novels have sold over 11 million copies worldwide and that a new TV anime project is coming:

Fucking hell.

SAO was decent for the first 7 and 8 eps. Peaked when dude leaped from the railing.

Why is this getting a new season :\

This can go one of two ways. Be amazing like the first half of SAO, or utter shit like the second half...

I've never seen Sword Art Online, but it sounds like .hack

It is good/bad enjoyable like Valvrave or just bad bad? Might give this series a chance.

Like KickAss ( comic) seemed promising at first, but like kick ass it lost direction and interjected sexual assault into the story just to give it some type of urgency, but this story wasn't mature enough to handle it properly. So the rest of the show is uncomfortable (in a bad way) unntill whatever point you stop watching. Along with the anime generally tapering off, which would have been fine by itself, but with sexual assault thing, ...Yeesh.

It didn't ignore it, he gave it to Klein and told him to use it on someone he saw die, which he presumably did during the course of the show seeing as he was in a guild and it's likely one of his friends would die.

His character class uses illusion magic, so no hax involved. Well, technically there was hax because he kept his absurd stats in ALO, but the actual transformation was just some magic that his class could use.

Edit: This thread reminded me to watch the Extra Edition episode that just came out yesterday!

I loved the first part of Sword Art but completely lost it at part 2.

It was such shit.
The constant romance sidetracked everything that made it awesome.

I told myself I wasn't going to watch season 2....but I'm probably going to.
I really just hope we get some consistency and not just damsel in distress/torn apart lovers story lines.

The art for this looks pretty awesome, I admit.

Further confounding that Kirito looks like a girl

When he coverts his character data from Alfheim into Gun Gale (the western MMO this new anime season is based in), is that he is awarded an ultra rare avatar called the M9000. It is the only male avatar that looks like a girl. The reason this is such a big deal is that a player cannot play as the other gender.

Also Kirito wins a lightsaber and gun from an impossible ingame game. Kirito is also the only one in the game that can slice incoming bullets with his sword.

My little beater can't possible be this h4xxor

That's so bad, wow. I don't know what to say. Bring it on?

Will watch. As bad as SAO sometimes got it was still damn addicting and ...screw it.. I enjoyed watching it :D

Kirito also has a
hot nurse that was assigned to him during the initial Sword Art Online incident. She wants to have sex with him of course and she feels him up before he enters Gun Gale Online.

As a light novel reader I can confirm that the Phantom Bullet arc is much better than the ALO arc and arguably even better than the SAO arc.

It never mentioned the item again. It could have saved the item for that time for dramatic effect, instead of using it off screen. I consider that to be ignoring it.

Perhaps, but it's not like SAO to set up a useful plot element and then use it later, instead of pulling deus ex machinas out of its ass.
