Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I'm starting to regret wishing SmashGAF a happy new year.

It's utterly astounding that people are all too happy to take shits on characters they don't like being in the game or even having a chance at being in the game. Not because they're actually taking away a chance at another character or there's competition or something: You just don't like the character and can't seem to help but think "fuck all their fans, I don't like the character and therefore they're not worthy of being in Smash Bros and should be removed." I will concede that I take a few too many shits on one character (Toon Link) in a fashion similar to this, but I'm going to make a point not to do that anymore after coming to realize how obnoxious it actually is.

Shocking revelation: You are not the entire audience for the game: you pissing and moaning over a character does not invalidate all the other people that wanted to see the character in the game. You don't have to play as the character if you don't want to (at least not for an extended period of time) , and watching/ beating the shit out of something you don't like or care about isn't going to hurt you. Stop acting like this is some inexcusable affront directed at you that needs to be redressed.

Normally I can tolerate SmashGAF's nastier days, but these kind of "discussions" that pop up are basically emblematic of everything I find wrong with a lot of the posters on Gaming side: Nothing is ever "fine" or something you feel apathetic towards or needs a bit of improvement: Nay, it is either magnificent or an abomination. "Perfection", as the ideal to be pursued is only defined by what you yourself liked or cared about and not what actually addresses the needs or wants of the greatest number of people or could open up new possibilities.

Not many of you here are actually like this, but the fact that we get posters that do this stupid shit frequently enough compelled me to speak up. These sorts of arguments are never productive and after hundreds of these deals that never change peoples' minds everyone should know better than to get into them, because all they ever do is whip up bad blood in a crossover fandom already notorious for it.

I apologize if this was a tad overbearing, but this is something I have absolutely no patience for. If this is a banworthy offense, I accept my punishment.

preach mother fucker preach

You know who would make an awesome and unique retro/unexpected character choice? F-Type from Stunt Race FX!

cover_large_zps724dffb2.jpg

F-Type is essentially the mascot of this game, and could move/attack in a cartoony fashion similar to this commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3McoM6DI5ZU

Imagine the unique possibilities of fighting as a sentient race car!

I take pride in my hatred of 90% of smashgaf's suggestions.

May all gokus burn, batmans stay memes and waluigis remain assist trophies forever.

May I make glorious sprites of them and bow my head if I am ever proven wrong.

It's fine to criticize character choices, so long as you have good, substantive reasoning to back it up and aren't just doing it because you hate the character. There's times when none of that is actually given and you have clusterfucks like the one a couple pages ago.

I don't think there's a single character I don't want in cause I hate them.

Well I've grown to severely dislike Krystal after learning more about her, she may be the one exception.

His move set could be quite unique. I'd personally love for him to be included. Maybe his down b could construct a gun tower for a few seconds.

Edit:beaten because I'm too lazy to read lol.

I'd like him as a sort of summoner though. Maybe even bringing in other Rangers for attacks.

But I want squid sniper assassin to be an assist trophy!

But then again his weapon looks "realistic"

I've been playing brawl again lately on my Wii U. Since I don't have GC controller ports, I just use the CC, but yesterday I finally decided to try out the Wiimote + nunchuk setup.

It's sooooooo much better! You basically have access to every single action without moving your fingers. The analogue stick seems to be much better as well, oddly (for example, Ness' UP+B recovery is now cake). The only things I changed from default were down on d-pad = grab, and tap up to jump = off.

If you guys haven't tried out the nunchuk, I highly recommend it.

It's how I prefer it. I also put my Jump on Down Dad and Grab on Up Dpad.

Thank you for speaking your mind. I had honestly felt similar about this whole situation too. I wasn't sure if there was a way I speak my mind about it though.
This fucking thread.

People believing someone when they say Treasure is making a Star Fox game and that a Nintendo Direct is coming in the next week.

Remember when everyone thought Platinum was gonna make a Star Fox game? That died quickly when Kamiya pretty much told us all to shut up about it.

Regarding Chrom & Lucina:

I see a lot of people can't imagine such a character working since two adults running around would be "too detailed," but then again, if someone suggested Ice Climbers before Melee, it would've been shot down, and if someone suggested ROB before Brawl, it would've been shot down, and if someone suggested Wii Fit Trainer or Rosalina & Luma before SSB4, they would've been shot down, as well. All for different reasons, but the point is Smash fans are quick to dismiss things that just take a bit of imagination and clever execution to work.

And Sakurai can make it work.

The question is, would he want to make it work. If he wants to have a new Fire Emblem rep, yes, I think he would consider C&L. I agree Robin/Tactician would be a great character, as well, but he/she wasn't even in any of the game's promotional materials, despite representing the player character. The "faces" of Awakening were Chrom and Lucina, and together they could represent the Pair Up function, the parent-child connection, and the time-traveling plot.

Of course, I'd happily take both! (Chrom & Lucina, AND Robin/Tactician) Beyond them, I think Tharja (a popular character, and the favorite of Intelligent Systems), and Anna (a series mainstay, redhead, merchant and lightning-sword user!) would be strong possibilities.

I'm selling all my Wii and GameCube stuff soon with the exceptions of a couple Wii motion plus + nunchucks and SMG1+2 along with Metroid Prime Trilogy. In other words until the release of Smash 4, the only game in the series I can play is the original, yay!
I'll miss you Melee. ;_;

We have enough blue hairs and blondes in my opinion, which is one of the reasons I'm pleased they went with brunette Zelda.
Neither Chrom & Lucina nor Robin/Tactician would solve the blue/blonde conundrum, but both could be so unique in terms of gameplay that they would spice things up all the same.

From a technical aspect Chrom+Lucina would seem tricky. Especially if they want to be close to as detailed as Marth. If four people were to choose them, that's a lot to consider. They would certainly be a good deal higher poly than IC.

Picture this:

With C&L, you can switch between Chrom in the lead or Lucina in the lead. Whoever the secondary character is, follows the lead character from the background -- not as far back as Pokémon Trainer, but "lighter" in color and clearly separate from the main player. Certain moves performed by the lead character receive a quick follow-up strike/block from the secondary character moving a half-step out of the background to interact with the foreground.

How far "back" the secondary character is would depend on the level -- on the plane in Wuhu Island, for example, the secondary character would be mere "steps" into the background, so that if you paused and panned the camera Chrom and Lucina would appear mere feet apart, side by side. But the second character is lighter in color, and separate enough in appearance, so as to not create confusion as to who's fighting in the foreground.

In a sense, they'd be arranged like they are during the 3D battles in Awakening itself, just tighter together, the lead in the foreground (where the fight is) and the secondary character following along in the first layer of background, dashing in to "double strikes" or block hits. It would be fast and fluid.

EDIT: To clarify, "background" might not be the best term. More like, "a few feet into the screen," from the plane where the characters are fighting. Picture how far your character leans into the background when side-stepping, and then add an extra step -- that's where the secondary character would be.

Sonic is definitely meant for Smash he is real important they should add Shadow and Amy too but they should TAKE OUT SOLID SNAKE kojima betrayed Nintendo by not making a brand new metal gear for Nintendo Wii and Nintendo 3DS so you cant put snake in the new game because that would just be a big fuck you to sakurai and iwata

Nintendo should say "kojima you give us an exclusive metal gear and we will put in solid snake :) :) :)"

edit: bUT they should add in naruto alreadyu!!!!!

No way! Nintendo betrayed Herr Kojima San by not released a console that could realize his artistic vision. As a way to apologize, Smash should include Liquid Snake, Solid Snake, Solidus Snake, Cloud Snake, Revolver Ocelot, Grey Fox, Metal Gear Rex, and Meryl. Also, Solid's final smash should feature a picture of Iwata with an oversized diaper and baby headband on, with him crying and saying "So sorry Kojima! So sorry!"

To make room in the roster, they should remove Luigi, Wolf, Fox, and every Kirby character.

I like this just so I can say IT'S MAHVEL BABY every time I land a hit
(though your idea obviously has issues for aerial/off-stage attacks)

That's where the color comes in. The second character is lit and colored "brighter" to visually convey they're the background AI companion. Upon switching (a form of "stance change"), the secondary character assumes the true level of color and detail.

People actually want Lucas out?
Ike and R.O.B. are definitely more deserving than Lucas, given they're much more unique, but my stance is, "Everyone from Brawl should return, plus Mewtwo and Roy."

I have no idea why people would want any existing characters cut. Why would someone want less options?

I think it's more that some people expect him being cut because he's a Japan-only character from a finished series who isn't even a fully unique character in SSB.

But he is my favorite character in Brawl, so I really hope he stays.

Which is funny since Ness has a japanese(kirby) va while lucas has a english va.

I'm not a fan of the dual-character thing, and I'd be really unhappy to see Chrome and Lucina be a joint character. I'd rather have Lucina be an alternate costume for you know who, and have Chrom be his own character. I would love it if Ike would remain, too.

Fire Emblem is such a great series with awesome characters; I would love for there to be more than two reps this time around.

Super Smash Bros. Fire Emblem Edition.

The problem about fire emblem in smash is that theres so many characters that would be good for smash in multiple games
