Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

If not, at least Platinum Robo with all the Unite Morphs as specials and smashes.

If not that, please Immorta.

Look at all those pictures of assist trophies.

Lucina would NEVER work for smash because she would be too equal to Marth and it would be confusing

People said the exact same thing about Rosalina

What about if Lucina made use of the fact that you can change classes in the Fire Emblem franchise and her down b lets her change her class

No sane, rational person ever thought Rosalina would be too similar to Peach.
At the same time, no one predicted a Rosalina that was as interesting as the Rosalina & Luma combo we wound up getting.

That's the thing with Sakurai -- he can take something that less creative people would say has no potential, or is too similar to this, or not enough like that, and he'll find a way to make it work.

So if he wants Chrom in, he'll make it work well. Ditto for Lucina. And Robin. And Chrom & Lucina. Or whatever character you might throw at him. He can find a way to make the character unique, to make the character enhance the roster as a whole.

I am not talking equal in moveset.
Who cares about moveset when choosing playable characters in smash bros ? =P

I am talking equal in appearence.

Nobody would confuse rosalina with peach in the middle of the chaos because one is pink and another is blue.

Lucinda being equal to Marth is kinda THE WHOLE POINT of her design

No we need Tharja as the FEA representative.

Also expecting VJ for the WiiU and/or Bayonetta to make it.

AND GIVE US RIDLEY!

I WANT MY SPACE DRAGON PLAYABLE!

I'm starting to regret wishing SmashGAF a happy new year.

It's utterly astounding that people are all too happy to take shits on characters they don't like being in the game or even having a chance at being in the game. Not because they're actually taking away a chance at another character or there's competition or something: You just don't like the character and can't seem to help but think "fuck all their fans, I don't like the character and therefore they're not worthy of being in Smash Bros and should be removed." I will concede that I take a few too many shits on one character (Toon Link) in a fashion similar to this, but I'm going to make a point not to do that anymore after coming to realize how obnoxious it actually is.

Shocking revelation: You are not the entire audience for the game: you pissing and moaning over a character does not invalidate all the other people that wanted to see the character in the game. You don't have to play as the character if you don't want to (at least not for an extended period of time) , and watching/ beating the shit out of something you don't like or care about isn't going to hurt you. Stop acting like this is some inexcusable affront directed at you that needs to be redressed.

Normally I can tolerate SmashGAF's nastier days, but these kind of "discussions" that pop up are basically emblematic of everything I find wrong with a lot of the posters on Gaming side: Nothing is ever "fine" or something you feel apathetic towards or needs a bit of improvement: Nay, it is either magnificent or an abomination. "Perfection", as the ideal to be pursued is only defined by what you yourself liked or cared about and not what actually addresses the needs or wants of the greatest number of people or could open up new possibilities.

Not many of you here are actually like this, but the fact that we get posters that do this stupid shit frequently enough compelled me to speak up. These sorts of arguments are never productive and after hundreds of these deals that never change peoples' minds everyone should know better than to get into them, because all they ever do is whip up bad blood in a crossover fandom already notorious for it.

I apologize if this was a tad overbearing, but this is something I have absolutely no patience for. If this is a banworthy offense, I accept my punishment.

Yeah, I definitely agreed with you there. That's why I want 39 characters + 2 melee characters to come back, along with good amount of newcomers.

You know who would make an awesome and unique retro/unexpected character choice? F-Type from Stunt Race FX!

F-Type is essentially the mascot of this game, and could move/attack in a cartoony fashion similar to this commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3McoM6DI5ZU

Imagine the unique possibilities of fighting as a sentient race car!

Believe me, I would like to see that happening. I think I did mentioned it long time ago.

As someone who played all of the characters in Brawl -- and in my humble opinion, was fairly adept at them! -- I see the roster in Smash as a character all its own. And the more characters it comprises, the more flavors it has, the more interesting the whole becomes. This is why, tripping or no, slower or whatever, Brawl is by default superior to Melee in my eyes. (Yes, I know about Project M)

So count me in the camp that wants all 39 characters from Brawl to return, along with Mewtwo and Roy from Melee. With a bit more balance, those 41 characters are an incredible foundation off of which to work.

people who say melee is a better game obviously play the games with no items and on final destination so have no fun as a result

brawl is superior

A Golden Sun representative could be good for interesting combat mechanics, with the psynergy powers and the sword fighting combined. Not sure that series is on Sakurai's radar though.

He was an Assist Trophy .... but I am not sure much changed since praticaly no new Golden Sun was released since Brawl =(

This is an AWESOME idea. But I'm not clear what F-Type's official design looks like. He looks yellow in that commercial, but on the box and title screen he looks red:

You really don't even have to do much more with that kind of foundation. Adding another rep to most series just to keep things from getting too predicable/safe and introducing more "first evers" to the roster a la Wii Fit Trainer and Villager and Smash 4 is all that's needed. Looking at how positively everyone here reacted to Tyeforce's little roster macro and you'd get the feeling that everyone's day would be made with that much.

It's also why at one point I really thought the 50~55 number wasn't as lofty a number as many people in these discussions made it out to be. 50 is 9 more than Brawl + Roy and Mewtwo and 55 is 14 more.

bet you're good with none of them

So is Wonderful 101 the IP owned by Nintendo or PG?

the real answer: it makes no difference

I always hate the idea of cutting established characters. It's why I want everyone from Brawl back along with Mewtwo and Roy. (I can deal with no Pichu again I guess...). Every character in Smash has a sizeable fanbase, so it'd be a real shame if anyone gets cut.

It's why I feel it's dumb to replace the likes of Ike with someone else. (In fact, I don't understand why people think Ike will get replaced, he's not in the same situation as Roy). Also why I felt the idea of Lucina replacing Marth incredibly dumb (there are other reasons too though.)

Does anyone have a link to that roster maker program? I want to finally make my ideal SSB4 roster

Why is playing with/without items such an issue, this fanbase tears itself apart for such stupid shit.

I like to believe that this is just the last dregs of an old (silly) war finally beginning to die out than any real look into what the fanbase is like.

@qq more: If you find the link, let me know. As much as I put one of these out before for IntelliHeath's contest, I actually don't like that one as much anymore. :lol

Gosh, this game has such a great roster. Flippin' mad hyped to play as Mega Man as well as Samus, Donkey Kong, and Zelda again.

Can't wait for this ish to come out.

I hope Gamestop does that world wide tournament again on day of release, shit was a blast with Brawl. Nobody was used to the new items yet.....Gulpin became my special partner that day in the tournament, people were laughing cause he usually always popped up with me in the match only. I made it to 13th place I think. Good times.

Yeah I think the lists with less than 10 characters is a crazy underestimate. 64 with a shoestring budget had 12 characters created for it. Melee in development hell had 8 original newcomers, 6 last minute clones, and some big changes to the original 12. Brawl was also a big change from Melee and had 18 new characters along with a ton of new content to boot.

Yeah there are two versions of Smash this time, but the veteran changes don't look as significant as the last two times, things like SSE are gone, and Sakurai has a lot of help at Namco Bandai. (Along with most likely, a much bigger budget on each new installment) I think as we get closer to release, Sakurai is going to blow the door open on the game's new characters. Unless he already believes there are enough characters in the roster and decides to allocate the resources elsewhere, then I have no reason to believe we will have only a couple more characters. So yeah, sticking to my estimate of 50+ characters total with 10+ newcomers.

It does make a difference. Nintendo is far more inclined to include their characters. I'm sure PG wouldn't mind offering them, but Nintendos own franchises are at the top of their list.

Also, wondering on the possibility of seeing a Wonderful 102 without PG games (not that id want it).

Brawl was released in 2008.
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn was released in 2010.

Of course, DD didn't do well critically or commercially, so this will probably end up working against a character's inclusion.

it died out in the FGC, it sure as hell didn't die out among Nintendo's own fanbase for some reason

Here you go: http://www.mediafire.com/download/ji6uaxyelptw6nd/SSB+Roster+Maker-v.7.0.zip

I'm playing around with it right now and I'm glad I'm not responsible for this game. I have waaaaay to many already and I just started, lol.

Someone else showed this picture, and I thought it was great, so I wanted to post it here.

I love the characters' expressions. Though I won't notice them when playing matches, but taking screenshots and then posting them on Miiverse or GAF would be fun to do.
