Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Better question, was it preceded by a December Direct? I'm not one that thinks because it happened once so soon, another is out of the cards, but it's always good to work with past experience.

See above. There was one, but it was on the 5th not the 18th.

If they went with Impa that may be a way to help better represent SS. As for the other part, I don't see it as representing new games over old ones when the majority of the older moves poorly represented the character.

As for Ganondorf I've always thought a transformation into Ganon wielding his trident. His trident could launch powerful energy balls that players could hit back at him if given time. His trident would make a good item as well which would allow the same thing.

I don't want to even imagine the backlash if Ganon was playable and Ridley wasn't.

We're not going to get another January 2013 Direct. That is a once in a generation kind of event. It basically outlined the Wii U's entire life, all the way up to Zelda in late 2015 (SMTxFE will probably be an early 2015 game too).

They will save Miyamoto's new IP for E3. Maybe they'll drop the gamepad in a January Direct, though :P

As much as I love both, I have serious doubt that mewtwo and Roy might return.
SPECIALY roy.
4 fire emblem clones is a little too much

I really don't see any cuts being made from Brawl outside of Lucas, Ike, Wolf, and Lucario.

Third party characters are a little bit more complicated.... not sure if Metal gear 3 for 3ds is enogh

Someone else showed this picture, and I thought it was great, so I wanted to post it here.

I love the characters' expressions. Though I won't notice them when playing matches, but taking screenshots and then posting them on Miiverse or GAF would be fun to do.
hahaha

Might depend on the desperation level Nintendo may be at after looking at their holiday sales and seeing if they're still struggling to bring the Wii U back to life in other regions beside Japan or not
Travis Touchdown 4 Smash :D

Leftover files show that Sakurai had planned to include both Mewtwo and Roy in Brawl.

And Mewtwo is more likely than ever: With two (2!) Mega Evolutions and a starring role in one of the new Pokémon movies, Mewtwo is receiving top billing right now.

I'm still wondering if Mewtwo will get a challenger approaching video like a newcomer or if he'll be unceremoniously announced like Sonic.

I think he deserves a video after being cut from Brawl.

I know it's early, but when do you guys plan on doing Nintendo Network ID swap for both versions of these games? I'd love to play with you guys. I also play Brawl from time to time online when I can find people but the lag makes it hard sometimes.

I actually have majority of the people here 's NNIDs on my wiiU already, so its no problem for me, anyone I dont have I will make sure to get, im far from filling up to 100 friends so I have more than enough room

I'm hoping Proto Man ends up the Mega Man AT (assuming there's only one). An update just like Mega Man's, that iconic whistle before he warps in and starts running and gunning... man, that'd be perfect.

I had it in my mind that Sakurai wouldn't allow guns just like he probably wouldn't allow knives. They're common weapons whereas grenades and bazookas aren't.

but then I remembered Megaman can throw sawblades

Have we heard yet if intro animations are in or out this time? If Toon Zelda is in, it should just be as an intro animation, where she rips her dress off, and, BAM!, Tetra ready to smash.

Yeah, it's still in the game. I think we already saw two of them so far.

We didn't see all of Wii Fit Trainer's specials, so it could be one of those.
I think it's possible that this might be a taunt, as something at least very similar looking is used as a taunt here.

But I'm sure a lot of things are subject to change, so it's tough to say.
You're right. I hope Mega Man's intro thing is the beam thing. It is so fitting.

Well, there's at least a few other options for an intro (assuming they return, which would only make sense...) They could give him one inspired by the Mega Man 2 intro, like in his reveal trailer, with Mega Man initially in the background with his hair blowing in the wind, and then putting on his helmet and warping to the stage. One inspired by the Robot Master intros could also work.

I suppose they were just lacking taunt material? The only thing that really comes instantly to mind for a Mega Man taunt would be the one featured in MvC 1 and 2, but that doesn't really fit this Mega Man at all. There's not really a ton of flavor animation in the NES Mega Man games to work with.

They could just use the beaming in thing without the pose with his arms out and looking down. That pose is pretty suitable for a taunt while still being different than it would be for an "intro" animation using the beaming in thing.
