Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

It was going to be presented both at E3 2013 & NYCC. We know for certain it was ready for NYCC, but it was held back to let ALBW have the spotlight.

You also have to consider that 3D World, ALBW, & Pokémon X/Y (all fantastic games, by the way) were released months after being officially announced.

I didn't know this. I guess a Winter 2014 release is possible?

Zelda's been brought up a lot by Nintendo recently, from talking about what they plan to do with the game to also mentioning that they could have revealed it at E3 2013. We know it will be at E3 this year given that Aonuma keeps mentioning to wait until then. Additionally, it has been in development for a very long time since a bit before SS released. ALBW and Hyrule Warriors came from separate teams, and WW HD was a small side project that assisted the team with working on the Wii U. I think November 2014 for Zelda is happening at this point as long as the team stays on track.

I'm surprised people still think Toon Zelda is likely, and it really makes me wonder if anyone would be expecting her if she wasn't part of the Forbidden Seven.

I mean, on the off chance the Phantom is actually a part of Zelda's moveset, it would make Toon Zelda utterly redundant. On on the chance that it's not, it would still make Toon Zelda redundant if the Phantom was an AT. And Toon Zelda would be redundant anyway, so...

I think it's significantly more likely that we'll see another version of Ganon than another version of Zelda, and more likely than that is that a hypothetical fourth Zelda rep is just Tingle or Impa.

I don't see Zelda happening this year as far as an actual release goes. Not when Nintendo already has plenty of games coming out in the second half of 2014 . Zelda will probably be out next year alongside the likes of Animal Crossing and Paper Mario.

How would you guys feel if they announced a June/July date only for them to delay until Q1 2015 for no reason.

Feelings?
I'd like to believe that they want to be cautious about giving a release date too early considering what happened with Brawl. Nintendo already suffered a bit from delaying DKTF.

2015? Unless Nintendo has some secret games they're working on to release to fill in that hole, they should not do that. I'd also be pretty disappointed it got delayed that far.

I don't count Phantom Hourglass because they shit all over her character in that game. I suspect though that Sakurai fundamentally views Sheik as part of Zelda's moveset and that will be why we get Toon Sheik instead of Tetra.

Hahaha, when I originally wrote my post I had put "Phantom Hourglass (sort of)" because of how terribly her character was treated by the writers. Hey, let's take this strong independent fearless person, and turn her into a typical damsel in distress!

Also, cool Tetra moveset. I was thinking the same thing regarding a small cannon, whipped out the way Peach pulls a Toad out.

I've spread my dreams under your feet, Sakurai. Tread softly.

What have they got? The current release schedule is remarkably barren after April. I'm sure they're going to announce stuff soon to fill those gaps, but until then it's pretty empty.

I wouldn't expect a Zelda this year anyway, since Hyrule Warriors is probably going to come out first to buy them some extra time on it.

I would burn the world down.

Am I the only one that thinks the WiiU version will outsell the 3DS one?, even if they launch on the same day.

Definitely not, considering parents and younger kids will probably think it's identical and pick the cheaper option.

Also, naturally the install base says so. I'd be surprised if it does though. :)

That is of course assuming that they:

1. Care about SSB at all, which not guaranteed to be the case for younger kids (or the parents buying the games)
2. Don't buy any older titles in place of a new release, which would automatically be cheaper.
3. Get it out in time

I desperately want a Metroid newcomer to be one of the Prime Hunters. I mean hell, we've seen at least 2 or 3 unique models for them, two of which would be more than high-res enough to make it in. Sylux or maybe Weavel seem like the obvious choices, but Rundas also seems likely.

The idea of an icy alien in a fighter might be mitigated if only because of Killer Instinct, though.

Hyrule Historia has the TP Sheik design and the Brawl model is pretty close to it. It is pretty sage to say it was based off of the cut TP content (TP development hell meant lots of ideas were scrapped).

Didn't Sakurai said in the Dojo that he asked the Twilight Princess artists to design a Twilight Sheik ?

So changing the subject a little. Anyone have any hilarious or otherwise very memorable moments while playing Smash?

While quietly playing Melee one day, my cousin just says "what if every time you did a move, the game asked 'are you sure?'"

Ten years later I still fall out laughing thinking about that.

Straight from Dojo

Use Zelda’s down special move to transform into Sheik! Once you do so, you’ll have access to a new character completely unique from Zelda.

Sheik doesn’t appear in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, but we based her model on a design that was drafted up during the development of that game.

I'm now going to be very disappointed if this is not the case.

Four Swords Adventures U.

When I first sat through that intro sequence I literally could not believe what I was reading. It didn't get better from there either.

As I've been playing through Skyward Sword lately I've been imagining a Zelda game that attempts to assemble all or most of the Heroes of Time together in a time/dimension-crossing adventure that treks through the most beloved-scenarios of the games. I hope that becomes a real game some day.

A Doctor Who episode?

There's only been one hero of time that we've actually followed though.

Betting on sales is like playing Russian Roulette with a full chamber.

I laughed too much.

It's the only way to get suped up space marine hero Link!
