Here you will get the chance to vote for your most standout albums/mixtapes, tracks, artist, producer, and more.

Thought I'd put this here since there will be a better chance that people will read it, we will be using a Google form to vote that way people can vote anonymously if they'd like. (I will require your username in the form to make sure that you are a member.)

Voting ballots will be counted and only counted if it's submitted using the Google form. You can still post your votes in the thread for discussion purposes but they will not be considered as your vote.

The link will be posted in the second post of this thread. Quote the second post to see the link for the form.

Guidelines

  • Voting ends January 19th, 2014, 11:59 PM PST

  • You can vote up to 10 albums and up to 10 songs while the rest of the categories (Individual Categories) only get one vote.

  • A minimum of 7 albums and songs are required. No exceptions. The distribution of points will not change if less than 10 albums/songs are chosen. If you have 6 albums in your ballot, it will not count.

  • Check your list twice and make sure you haven't repeated any albums/songs. Try to use the album's/song's exact title. Acronyms are not recommended and may disqualify your vote if it is too obscure. Remember, clarity is key here and will make everyone's life a lot easier.

  • SAVE YOUR FORM's EDIT LINK if you wish to edit your vote at a later time. The link will be given to you when you submit your vote.

  • Be reasonable with what you consider to be hip-hop. While it isn't cut and dry on what is and isn't hip-hop, the majority of the album has to be considered hip-hop, not just a few hip-hop elements thrown in there.

i.e. R&B artists like The Weeknd and Frank Ocean will not be counted.

  • What am I allowed to use for my albums? The only strict rule is it has to have an official release date in the year 2013. No exceptions. Both studio albums and mixtapes are allowed. EPs are not. Albums that were leaked in 2013 but have a release date in 2014 are not allowed.

  • Forgot what was released in 2013? Check out GAF-Hop's OT with various albums mentioned in the OP. Also you can check out HiResDes' 2013 Quarterly Round-Ups for a lot of recommendations/reminders.

Point Distribution - You don't have to use the following text format but it will make your vote a lot easier to handle. This applies to both album of the year and song of the year.

  1. Album A ; 4 points
  2. Album B ; 3 points
  3. Album C ; 3 points
  4. Album D ; 2 points

  6. Album F ; 2 points
  7. Album G ; 1 point
  8. Album H ; 1 point

I haven't even thought about my list, damn. 2012 had me excited to finish a list, this time imma take my time with it.

I have a general idea what the top three will be. And I'll probably add mixtapes to my list again, as the major mixtapes this year (once again) were basically albums. Acid Rap comes to mind.

Snuggles

Voted. Eminem dominated 2013. L of the year went to Drake, of course. :)

Nothing Was The Same's gonna be in my top ten, but I guess I don't really give a shit about an artist's image unless he's a Chris Brown-tier scumbag or some shit.

I'll have to think about my list a bit, but Trap Lord was my overall AOTY so it should be the same here. SHABBA.

Can somebody dump a list of 2013 albums?

In my old age the years just kind mesh together and I'm not entirely clear on what released when.

Need a list of mixtape/free albums. Don't think the wiki link covers it. Sad I can only come up with 5 retail albums.

Artist/Group of the Year - Danny Brown
Producer of the Year -
Rookie of the Year - ASAP Ferg
Feature Killer of the Year - Vince Staples
"L" of the Year - Best song and verse on Big Sean's album being a feature on a B Side
Biggest Album Disappointment - MMLP2. Not that I expected anything. Guess it's the closest category for the "bowl of dicks" award.

Giggle all you want. When all is said and done, he was the most-selling hip-hop artist of 2013, and you can't really argue with that.

plenty of old and flabby musicians still make bank. look at the rolling stones and zeppelin. doesn't mean they aren't old and flabby, just means people still eat their shit up.

That's all too true. Still, I feel Em proved he's still the king (the god) of rap. The perfect addition to what must be the most solid discography in music history.

Can we do a quick vote on imposing an MMLP2 ban from this thread?
What do you have against Eminem? I can understand he's not everyone's favorite, but you're acting like MMLP2 is a legitimately bad album.

Oh, and Yeezus ain't half-bad either (I ranked it 6th). "Keep it 300 like the Romans" must be the biggest lyrical fuck-up of the century, but one can't deny that Black Skinhead is ridiculously catchy.

You're the OP.

Going by unwritten Neogaf rule, OP kinda makes the rules for the thread. Obviously not ALL the rules, but enough to probably get by with that.

Or was that a wishy washy I wish?

It's a terrible album. Bad isn't even a strong enough word.

I see it like this. You wouldn't go into a Metal-GAF thread in 2013 and say KORN or NIckleback had the AOTY. Even if you felt like they did, you're cognisant enough to know that that's not really what they're going for with that thread. I don't mean that in an insular way at all. If that were the case I'd be calling for a Gambino ban too. It's just a mixture of common sense and courtesy.

Maybe I am being insular about it since I am (was?) really active in the hip hop discussion on neogaf. If no one agrees with my sentiment I'll leave it alone (the talking about outright excluding the discussion of it).

I will have to think about this. I really wanna vote for Run the Jewels and Old, but not sure I have 7 albums on my mind. I enjoyed My Name is My Name and Yeezus too.

I tried so fucking hard to like MMLP2 but it's pretty terrible. Shame, because Em is still one of the best lyricists alive. But he will never make another good album.

I'd rate MMLP2 above Yeezus, so I guess I'm part of the problem... Although I'm not sure either will make my top 10.

Waiting for other people to post their top 10 before I make my list, since I have a feeling I'm missing some important stuff. Nothing blew me away this year, though. Disappointing year for me...

Chance, dude has been getting a load of exposure over the past year, appearing on a few big name tapes/albums. Very much looking forward to the social experiment.

Feature Killer of the Year
Danny Brown on Flatbush Zombies - Drug Parade, an already crazy song which he brings to another level.

"L" of the Year
I'd say Lupe, he responded to control, not once but twice and no one batted an eye. Dude's gone way past his use by date.

Biggest Album Disappointment
either MMLP2 or MCHG, both pretty lacklustre. Probably MMLP2 because I was looking forward to that more.
