Are the PSP Hot Shots worth the price? Shorties look like a fun distraction but while reading the old OT people mentioned that they take four separate entries that you need to load up to play specific games. Have they changed that recently?

Tennis looks fun but is it worth $15? Should I even bother with Open Tee 1/2 since World Invitational is out?

Thanks for your time.
I feel qualified to answer most of this:

Hot Shots Shorties is separated into four game files, even if you buy this bundle.

Hot Shots Tennis: Get A Grip is worth more than $15, at least to me.

I suck at the golf games, so I can't answer the last question.

I sure hope more JRPGs from the PS2 era are given HD Collection treatment.. missed so many of them due to insane prices

You'd probably have to drop a few hundred dollars to get all of the .hack games now.

Is the multiplayer in Killzone Mercenary dead? I just tried to play and could get in to a single match on any game mode. Once I managed to make it to a lobby with one other player but then he quit. I thought the multiplayer might have some life due to the fact it's the only decent mp fps on the system.

Ugh, I just got the game. Hope it's not as dead as you say :(. I think I remember some people in last month's thread saying it was hard to find a game though.

It's a real shame because the game in its prime was really good and addictive. The only reason I haven't played it for a couple months is because I was busy with other games. You should have got the game when it came out. When there was a good amount of players the game was awesome. Sorry for making you feel worse.

I have the first one (Infection) since I bought it while I was a kid but couldn't get the others since they were really hard to find. Now I want the other three but it's imposible to find them outside ebay and they are rather expensive... They really need that HD treatment or at least be released in PS2 Classics.

Naruto games are fun, but I wish CC2 did more games that those yearly fighters...

Tennis is indeed fun, I'd say worth the 15. The open tees however, no! I only say that because a page or two ago I posted some eBay sales where world invitational was 9 bucks. If you were thinking about the OTs, then go with WI instead. It destroys OT. That is, if the sales are atill valid...and you don't mind physical carts..

Edit to say as awesome as their tennis is, golf is where their strengths lie. It's more perfectly suited for quick rounds of play, vs tennis too.

Yeah, I remember playing the beta and having a lot of fun with it. I just didn't have the spare cash when it came out.

Edit: I just got into a game of Merc Warfare. So, yay!

What are the chances of Tearaway getting a sale sometime soon? Only have 16 euros in my psn wallet. Probably not very likely, huh? Ah well, if i recharge my balance i might as well get persona 3 while im at it...

edit: i see there's a persona 2/3 bundle, worth it? ive heard good things about 3 but know next to nothing about 2.

It'll probably not happen until later in the year because it only just came out on Vita. Maybe during a summer sale but I wouldn't expect it any sooner.

The Persona games go on sale every once in a while, might best to wait with that too.

So what possible PS1 and PS2 ports would you guys like to see on the Vita?

I'd like to see a port of Valkyrie Profile 2 and Star Ocean 3 on Vita pls.

I've been umm'ing and aah'ing about Terraria for weeks. Maybe...

I'd like to grab it, it seems like a good fit, but I cannot justify more than $10 on it. Hell, I just bought Starbound on PC, so yeah, I need to wait for a sale.

How early is early 2014 for Binding of Isaac? I think that along with Spelunky will kill my social life forever.

I really hope this remake/reboot/whatever is good. I was playing the Steam version the other night and was digging it a lot. But if this artstyle sucks or the gameplay feels off... I just fear being disappointed with it.

same here... but not at this price I guess..

Exactly.

Like what? I only can think of the fact that I would like to play P3 after it got the P4G treatment...

I suppose there are a lot of other games, like: Star Ocean, Eternal Sonata, .Hack, Digital Devil Saga, FF12, Skies of Arcadia, etc.

None of those do it for me though... what titles are you hoping for?

I really hope you're able to get xp from bit games

You should be able to. You get XP from single player, don't know why you wouldn't from multi with bots.

I dunno... it's been on sale a lot in NA, but then again, we had a full retail MSRP, not budget pricing. Hard to say for EU.

I feel kind of bad, but I think I am finally giving up on the Vita. I simply never play it, and I don't see any games in the future that would change it. If anyone from Vita GAF wants it I will give you a smoking deal on it. :)

For those worried about Sony's support for the platform, Masami Yamamoto (VP of external dev.) confirmed that they're working on a new large scale IP for Vita as well as new F2P projects

In order to appeal the broadened Vita market to younger consumers, we’re planning development on a new large scale IP. We also still plan on investing in regular F2P titles like Destiny of Spirits.

He's referring to Freedom Wars:

PSM features a single global submission so the screenshots used in one region are used in all. If it's on the English stores, it's usually in English, though I recall one visual novel that was left in Japanese.
Images don't load(Atelier Meruru plus)

I will never understand why a series with such a beautiful character design and models has environments with such dull colors.

EDIT:
Ayesha not Meruru lol

I bought Virtua Tennis in the January Sale. What a gorgeous game! I'm glad I bought it. I used to love Virtua Tennis on the Dreamcast but the series fell off my radar after that. It's still a great game. I'll have a lot of fun with this.

saw baron von beans and heckimation got ps4's eh?

who else on vita gaf is on the ps4 train now?

let's get some warframe going

I think I'll be okay if Tecmo Koei ends up the last third party on the Vita. They're consistently knocking it out of the park.

Edit: Had a PS4 since launch, but honestly, it's back to being a Blu-ray player for a few months. Been on the Warframe train since launch as well, but I'm only going on for login bonuses until they fix the bugs. I've crashed 3 times since Patch 11 hit.

Priorities?

I dunno, but character models really feel off in the franchise when you compare them with enviroments. Hope they improve whenever they start working on the PS4.

It is my most played Vita game, about 300 hours. Playing multiplayer was fantastic, but when I tried to play MP again a few months ago there was nobody. Still a great game on its own.

Though I still want a more realistic tennis game.

Those two, Dark Cloud and the .//Hack games mainly. I also want the old Atelier games since I was a fan of the traditional RPG gameplay. Ar Tonelico 1 and 2 probably too because like I said I love the traditional RPG battles especially the special attacks back then on Gust games. Lastly, I want Shining Force EXA.

VP2 had a such a fun and probably broken battle system. I love to collect parts and breaking the monsters body though. SO3 made me WTF with the twist at the middle but it also has a very fun battle system that is inherit on Tri-Ace games.

Finished the "Olympus Maximus" world in Rayman Legends, and I don't feel like unlocking the last world (and since I got the credits, I guess it's a bonus world). It's a good game, but I liked Origins a lot more, especially since there were no Murphy levels in it

Hey VitaGaf,

I have a question. I am really curious about Monter Hunter. I have heard some good things about it and the PSP one - Freedom Unite - is selling for cheap on psn.

My question is - how did it age? Is it a good idea for someone not familiar with MH to get into the series with this one? I am really curious about how the controls feel in a game like this with PSP having very limited number of buttons.

For the record - I love animation priority action games like Dark Souls.

PS. In addition to everything above - does it need MP to enjoy the game?

I haven't even gotten that far yet and I just can't be bothered to play it.
When I do, I end up trying the challenges in a futile effort to try to get that stupid effin' diamond cup trophy.

I agree 100%.

Sometime before Vita launched, I started picking up PSP games on sale (digitally) in anticipation that I would someday have it. One of these purchases was MHFU for $10.
I bought it, after checking out some videos, because I thought it looked like it could play a lot like Dark/Demon's Souls.
I played with it for a bit, trying to see if any of the mechanics and gameplay clicked with me... and I liked absolutely nothing about it.

If you've never played a MH game before, do not go into it thinking it's like the souls games, combat wise, or I think you'll be disappointed.

It aged pretty well. Still awesome to play every now and then. If you love DS then it's highly likely that you'll like MH. It requires patience and rewards you for it. The button set up is done quite nicely and it's also better on the Vita since you can map any buttons on your right analog stick.

MP isn't required but is recommended for tackling the monsters that are very large or just making the item collection much faster.

***
^ It depends but I think MH may be compatible with DS fans due to the fact that you can't brute force your enemies. Ultimately, you just have to watch some videos or try it yourself to get the feel for it. Once you like it, you''ll like it for good but if you hate it, it's hard to go back.

I'll let the stuff out that turns off a lot of newcomers.

MH is very heavy on animation priority. The biggest weapons are slower than anything in Dark Souls. You have to sheathe/unsheathe your weapon too. Also, using items also has elaborate animations. Drinking pots makes your character drink and do a superman pose. Eating steaks makes the character chomp then pat his belly. Sharpening your weapon takes like 3 seconds. All this means you must use items during openings, or after running away to another area.

It doesnt have the adventure part of Dark Souls. It's just: go to town, get a quest to kill X, beat quest, repeat. Maps are really just big arenas.

The gameplay of MHFU is still fine. The problem is the wonky hit detection with a few monsters which were fixed in the next generation. Imagine a dragon rotating in place. He hits you with his tail even though it's way above your head.

The games also start reeeally slow. You have to put up with mindless quests like gathering plants for some time.

Entire game is soloable, even quests designed for multiplayer. Dunno if Vita works with AHP.

It's not uncommon to see someone say they spent hundreds of hours on the games after it clicks. Took me 15 hours ish until it completely clicked. I had over 400 hours on MHFU and 100 on MH3U (didnt even play it much).

Edit: bad hitbox in action at 4:50. Just watching the clip already makes me mad.

Dear VitaGAF, I have just finished my Atelier Totori Plus True Ending playthrough. 240 saves, 45 hours and I'm finally there with a platinum bonus (my one and only!). It's such a good game, however True Ending requirements are quite ridinculous. Ah well at least everything can be done in one playthrough. Part of the fun waa trying to follow the guide exactly.

Thank you Vita, I wouldn't have done it on the PS3.

I'm totally not a fan of MH, but with the series being on 3ds it hasn't aged at all lol, it miss only the latest additions(climbing, some more equipment and some other dragon-like monster), but on vita you can use the second analog, and yes Unite is the one to buy since every new MH is just an expanded version of the previous one.

Does toukiden have a traditional story mode? U have a huge village map etc? Find new party members late into the game? or is it simply boss rush? Are the maps huge and varied or is it handful of 10-12 maps like MH and SS?

And up until MH4, MHFU was the best looking from an art perspective :)

The Murphy levels make me want to tear my own hair out with just how many there are. If it was one a world, I could definitely cope, but up to 3? Fuck off Ubisoft. Ruining what could have been a fantastic platformer with touch screen bullshit.

They atleast could had shamed to allow the ps3 controls to be patched in on vita but nope!

Okay, thanks guys.

I think I know what to expect from MH, I know enough about the series and what the general gameplay is all about.

With your input, that Freedom Unite is very similar to other entries, I think I will go with that one.

Wish me luck :)
