Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Some of Kirby's ability and enemy trophies were new, but that's about it.
I have a feeling they came from the cancelled GCN Kirby game.

The most baffling non-ripped asset trophy in Brawl is probably Squitter.

But then again, PAON apparently helped out with Brawl so I guess it's possible that they had made Squitter for Barrel Blast or something and didn't use him.

I know we don't know much about the mechanics yet but just looking through the "Which version will you get?" thread, it seems like hit stun is back. Does it appear that way to anyone else? Or am I just super late/way off?
The hitstun looks pretty similar to how it looked in Brawl's early videos--actual hitstun isn't really Brawl's problem. It's the fact that you can cancel your hitstun whenever by doing basically anything. And that's not something you can see in videos readily--this needs to actually be tested.

Based on what little we've seen, hitstun does appear to be much higher than in Brawl, which is good.

The game also looks very slow, though, which is bumming me out something fierce.

Some of Kirby's ability and enemy trophies were new, but that's about it.

Pretty sure they were probably lifted from assets they had from the GameCube Kirby build, right? They look like the models I recall seeing in early previews. But I could see Sakurai making new ones just for Kirby.

But looking over, it seems the original models I don't recognize being from other games...

* Perry (but it looks like they probably edited Peach's parasol model)
* Squitter
* Expresso
* Xananab
* Samus Fusion Suit and Samus Power Suit
* Ashnard
* Elincia
* Stapy
* Mokka
* Pyrite
* Putty
* The Mecha Marionette robots
* Custom Robos
* Ouendan and EBA

But in Brawl's defense, they made new fully animated models for Assist Trophy characters so it sort of evens out.

As far as Trophy-earning minigames go, I vastly preferred the lottery to the coin launcher. With the lottery, I could go grind an obscene amount of coins so that I have a 99.9% chance of getting a new trophy, making those getting those last few trophies simple enough. With the coin launcher, I have to wait through a whole bunch of trophies I already own showing up beforehand (albeit I often can't identify ones I own from ones I don't unless they're super common), then I have a limited amount of time in which I have to hit the trophy multiple times with my coins, before it flies off the screen, without hitting something else that's flying in between my gun and the trophy in question. If I can't land a good 3-5 shots, I have to go back to the waiting game, because that trophy be gone, and I'm being fed trophies I already own once again.

I mean, it's not like I loved the lottery; they're both tedious and aren't very fun, but even considering that, I can choose which one I disliked less, and for me, that's the lottery.

Also wasn't a fan of the SSE-only trophies, where I have to find a rare trophy base item and then make sure that my finishing move on an enemy is using it (at least, for bosses and strong enemies). Thing is, because the trophy base's existence was purely random (if more common on harder difficulties, which I'd be less likely to play), odds are that it'll show up when I don't have any enemies nearby that I need a trophy for. It's a cool idea in theory, but it should probably be backed up with the ability to get said trophies through other means.

Here's the watermarkless version of today's screenshot:

Ah, good, somebody else is picking up the slack here. Thanks.

I wonder if we might get a Tetris stage.

No one owns Tetris anymore, right? And it's pretty important to Nintendo's history.
Wrong. The Tetris Company owns Tetris. No, I did not just make that up, it's a real entity owned by Alexey Pajitnov and Henk Rogers. They also insist all Tetris games adhere to a strict set of guidelines, and are the ones responsible for the much-maligned Infinite Spin.

Well you just said you like the demos so this isn't really going to go down well.

I consider them bloat, the chronicles section bloat, there was probably other things in the Extras menu that I forgot about. They probably didn't take my effort to put it, but I'd rather Smash 4 keep things simple.

I love having the demos, brawl was the very first time I was able to play the original donkey kong.

Some of the enemies I don't recognize seeing, but that's probably the case. It's a neat slice of history if that's true, since a lot of the models didn't end up making it into RtDL years later, unlike almost everything else from that cancelled game.

I was a trophy whore with Melee, wanted every single one of them and I couldn't stop looking at my collection because my friend next door had a bigger one. With Brawl, I felt that there was too much things to do & collect like cd's, stickers, etc which didn't motivate me enough to care about trophies anymore.

Makes me wonder if they're gonna use the XY models of Pokemon for the 3DS Version, but maybe the Wii U Version will use the "hi-res" models they showed off at E3.

Talking of CDs, if they return they better hang around on the stage a fraction longer. Their short life was far too irritating considering how rare they were. In the end I couldn't be bothered a got Pikachu to taunt spawn the last half dozen.

You never heard of the Stage Builder Trick to get them?

Clever Smash Bros. players have come upon a neat exploit that will have you saying "why didn't I think of that?" First, you'll need to have conveyor belt pieces available in Stage Builder, which requires you to have made at least 5 stages beforehand. Then make a new stage with conveyor belts that are placed to that they can "feed" you items, with a stopper on one end so you don't fall off.

Set Sandbags as the only items that appear, at a high appearance frequency. Wait for the Sandbags to come in, get a nice pile going, and then start whacking them. Eventually they'll start dropping CDs and Stickers for you to pick up.

I had alot of fun with stage builder, built alot of stuff and some didnt even make sense, then saw videos on youtube of people' creations including stages shaped like penise, then in the share stage builder thing that allowed you to play other people's stages came up a stage made completely out of elevator platforms, I thought it was brilliant and made one of my own.

Yes and that was really boring to do plus I thought I'd try to get them the normal way. After missing too many of the blighters from either them spawning too far away, the stage was a moving one like Dolphino Plaza or my opponent wouldn't let me get near it and chose the quickest method as stated in my previous post.

GameFAQ thread STRIKE AGAIN

Ok, so I'm good friends with a developer from Namco Bandai who's working on Smash Bros 4 right now. A couple days ago I asked him about SSB4. He was surprisingly open about the game and told me a huge amount of stuff. I don't like all of it, and I have no proof that all of it, or even any of it is true, but I felt obligated to share.

CHARACTERS

-The Little Mac, Mii, & Pac-Man rumor is true. They were planned to be revealed at E3 2013 along with WFT, Villager, and Mega Man, but after the leak they were taken out of the presentation
-The current plan is for them to be revealed at E3 2014
-Mii will not have a customizable moveset. However, you will be able to load your Miis into the game and play as them
-Dixie Kong is in, not a clone
-Paper Mario is in
-Mewtwo returns w. Melee moveset
-Ridley is in. He's the biggest character in the game and can float like Peach
-Krystal is in
-Shulk is in
-Isaac is in
-Takamaru is in with a new design(I don't have any proof of this, but I assume it's a situation similar to Pit in Brawl, and Nazo no Murasame-jo will get a revival soon).
-KI has 3 reps
-Chibi-Robo is in the roster, but is very low-priority. Work on him hasn't even started yet, so there's a possibility he'll be cut
-Toon Zelda/Tetra is in the same situation as Chibi-Robo
-No cuts from Brawl
-There are currently 4 3rd-parties in the game but more are being discussed
-Prof.Layton has been discussed a lot, but isn't planned right now due to not being iconic like the other 3rd-parties
-Geno was not planned for Brawl, but was discussed in the early stages of SSB4
-A character from Bravely Default was under consideration, but is unlikely
-The Slime from Dragon Quest is probably going to be the next 3rd-party added, if they add one
-SEGA, Namco & Konami have contacted Nintendo about more of their characters in SSB4
-The roster isn't as finalized as people assume it is, but will most likely have 'about 60 characters'
-Villager has a female alternate costume
-HFT is an alt
-Dr. Mario is a Mario alt
-Dr. Luigi is a Luigi alt
-No new Pikmin reps
-No new Mother reps, but Ninten was discussed early on
-Roy will not be in
-Sukapon will not be in
-Harry from Teleroboxer was never even considered. He's 'not sure Nintendo even remembers he exists'
-Daisy is not in because there are more important Mario reps
-Neither Impa nor Tingle is in, but there will be a new Zelda rep
-DK gets a new FS with Rambi
-Falcondorf returns

ASSIST TROPHIES

-Lucina is an AT
-Cranky is an AT
-Tingle is still an AT
-Saki is still an AT
-Mr. Resetti is still an AT
-Magnus is an AT

STAGES

-The Boxing Ring is a Punch-Out stage. Doc Louis appears in the background
-The Lor Starcutter on WiiU
-The Pokemon World Tournament on 3DS
-Thorntail Hollow on WiiU
-Macbeth on 3DS
-Yoshi's New Island on 3DS, and a Yarn Yoshi stage on WiiU
-Murasame Castle on WiiU
-Gaur Plains on Wii U and Central Factory on 3DS
-Tropical Freeze on WiiU & a DKCR stage on 3DS
-Hyrule Castle/Lorule Castle is a stage on 3DS
-Fire Emblem stage on WiiU, will be a specific area(unlike Castle Siege). However, what area has not been decided yet
-Stage builder is better

OTHER

-Focuses more on vs. mode
-DLC is under consideration, but no plans have been made
-Adventure Mode works like Melee's, but with branching paths
-Medusa is a boss in adventure mode
-King K. Rool is a boss in adventure mode. You fight him multiple times in DK's part of adventure mode, with each of his different personas.
-The game will probably release late fall 2014, but there is still a lot of work to do, so it might be pushed to winter.
-Namco and Sakurai are fighting internal battles over the balancing, where Namco wants to do the balancing and take ideas from Project M for movesets, but Sakurai wants to balance the game alone

Macbeth?!

HIT THE BREAKS I CANT STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or bust!!!

"-Namco and Sakurai are fighting internal battles over the balancing, where Namco wants to do the balancing and take ideas from Project M for movesets, but Sakurai wants to balance the game alone"

er didn't sakurai pretty much said he isn't going to balance the game alone? lol

automatically BS because Nintendo clearly doesn't notice and/or care about leaks (see: Cranky Kong)

but I'm sure you all knew that already

'Namco wants to take ideas from Project M for the movesets"

yeah this is the part where rumor completely falls apart

No new Pokemon reps?

I really wanted playable Gyrove, Fennerva, and Bubbaboom to represent Pokemon XY. :(

eh, all these "leaks" have a part where it completely falls apart

it's about as real as my leak where Tharja is a playable character and there's three samuses (power suit, zero suit, and justin bailey)

Yes and no. "Korobeiniki" is public domain, except when it is used in a video game. The Tetris Company owns the rights to using the song in video games.
Didn't realise that. Well maybe Nintendo got special permission as it was the GameBoy version that popularised it (but not the first to use it).

That's interesting. I always thought "Tetris blocks" would make a good Assist Trophy. They fall from the sky and you try to avoid them, kinda like Unown.

Did anyone actually get all the CDs "legitimately"? Everyone I know used the State Builder trick.

If Kid Icarus gets 3 reps, and Medusa is a boss and Magnus is an Assist Trophy, then who the fuck else is there? I highly doubt there will be a Tropical Freeze stage because the game hasn't even come out yet. There was no Super Mario Galaxy stage in Brawl, nor was there a Luigi's Mansion stage in Melee. Nintendo doesn't necessarily care about advertising their newest games like that.

Rosalina represents the Galaxy games, the most important Mario entries since 64.

Not exactly. Mario could've repped those games with a simple revamped moveset. Rosalina is barely the focus of the Galaxy series, and is just a character that debuted in it. I mean, with that logic, one could just toss in Daisy/Waluigi as a spin-off rep. They don't truly represent the series, as they aren't the focus of those games. Sakurai simply made her a Galaxy representative with her moveset (that only Mario and Luigi used, mind you).

Even though I could very much be incorrect with the notion that Rosalina doesn't represent Galaxy in the eyes of the creators of the game, but who knows.
