Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Yeah there's no chance whatsoever that the rumor is true, but I do very much enjoy all the fun "leaks" and the like.

I would really like to imagine someone in charge of Smash 4 seeing PM as a good direction and wanting to take inspiration from it, but it's basically the most pipey of all pipe dreams.

...who the heck is Harry from Teleroboxer?

I think it's almost certain that we will get a new Kid Icarus Rep. Who it will be be though is a toss up. My guess is Palutena.

sakurai probably made a certain arc that has a model of palutena fighting just for the sake of making it easy on him when he puts her in smash.

We all know who the most important female addition is…

I'm not sexist in games, my main is Samus, but Palutena means no Hades or Magnus.

Palutena is a far more important KI character than them. Her name is the series' Japanese name!

Edit: Also I would like Sami from Advance Wars though that's not likely is it?

I maintain that Palutena is the only Kid Icarus character with any shot at being playable. Kid Icarus isn't exactly Mario or Zelda -- we'd be lucky to get a second character, honestly. And in the event that we do get a second Kid Icarus character, it's going to be the series' second most important character.

Think back to Melee. Ganondorf and Young Link were unplanned last minute clones, but the only original Zelda newcomer intended from the get-go was Zelda herself. She's the second most important/recurring character after Link, and the series is named after her. Palutena is practically the Zelda of Kid Icarus. The series is named after her (in Japan), and she's the second most important/recurring character after Pit. She also appeared in more Kid Icarus: Uprising promotional material than any of the other secondary Kid Icarus characters.

hades and magnus never really struck to me as a good choice for playable characters

hades seems like he would be more like a boss character than anything else, I have a really hard time envisioning him as playable.

same with magnus, who I can see as an assist but not playable. he doesn't have the wide range of weapons that pit has. I can't envision him being playable either.

In a series of three (one of which never came out in Japan until very, very recently as a downloadable game), that isn't really worth noting, especially considering how the newest and most popular game in the series tossed her under a bus and supplanted her in the fanbase's mind as the series' "main villain."

EDIT: Note that Uprising's treatment of Medusa actually seriously bothers the bajeezus out of me, but it is what it is.

It may not be "relevant" but it is factual. The series can go anywhere. Unlike most Nintendo IP It has no dedicated team, a short history to pull from, and loose gameplay definitions thanks to Uprising. Things could change as drastically as they did with Uprising, so until we got another game that does something differently, or draws more inspiration from Uprising, Medusa will still be the Bowser of the franchise.

This isn't about Medusa in Smash it is about series history and where a sequel may venture.

The choice is pretty much down to Palutena or no Kid Icarus newcomer period.
I know it, Nintendo wants money, more females means more money and more girls playing the game. What's wrong with badass characters? Or goofy characters? Unexpected stupid things?
Why so sexist? Why would you want to keep the majority of characters male?
Because main characters are male, and every female you add means a main character saying goodbye.

Whilst I'm here, I wish that Sakurai wouldn't show something then wait a decade to explain it or show it fully, such as Xerneas, Phantom, KI/AC/RR stages.

I just hate waiting. :p

I don't know why anyone bothers giving attention to obviously fake leaks. Nintendo has a vise grip on Smash Bros. In the event that there is a legitimate leak, it isn't going to happen until a few months before the game comes out at the absolute earliest.

Don't be Old Fuddy Gradaddy. It's all about hype and fun to poke through the holes.

Who knows, maybe in the future we'll get a Kid Icarus that gives more of a shit about the original Kid Icarus than just using it as a source for monster designs and the butt of easy jokes (I actually kind of doubt it considering Uprising's popularity and the precedent it sets), but in the context of Smash Bros., seeing as how it is made by the creator of Uprising, I don't see much else other than Uprising matter. And I think Sakurai has shown how much he cares about the character.

yo bro stop being sexist

you know that's not the reason
I'm not sexist at all, look at my avatar, but that's actually the reason Nintendo giving females more attention. And I'm ok with that, but regarding my tastes, that's enough in Smash. Why? Again, because the roster is limited and every new character I don't like, means less characters I like, get it? So, if this was Sony I would LOVE Ellie, or maybe Elizabeth or I don't know. But it's Nintendo and females, in their games, well I don't like them. I love Samus, she's my main.
In the end all that matters is gameplay, but for now, all I want is characters I like.

Edit: Yes, Wii Fit Trainer is badass. Guys I like everything I saw. I'm just saying that's enough for me.

So do you think Palutena would be a clone or have a completely new moveset? Honestly, I could see her as a psuedo-Zelda clone, being magical and all that I mean, I'd want her to have her own moveset, of course.

yep, okay, not taking you seriously anymore

didn't know sakurai was making the game for you

We have no confirmed cuts yet. You are simply speculating.

Yes, I think it is obvious Medusa will not be playable in Smash 4.

Regarding the Kid Icarus franchise overall, I wouldn't be surprised to see it turn into an experimental series that gets new gameplay ideas thrown at it, similar to the way Kirby is handled. However, I would still like to see a direct sequel to the first two, but I think that is more unlikely than something brand new or a direct sequel to Uprising.

God grief at the Smash purchase thread:

"I hate 3DS because the graphics"
"3DS is stealing all Wii U trophies"
"Smash on 3DS is shit"

Please, play before you judge it.

What? So when people say: "I would like to se X in this game" are they totally stupid? Wasn't this a forum?
No, but they are stupid when they say "I don't want to see X in this game because I don't like X", even if other people like them.
Because main characters are male, and every female you add means a main character saying goodbye.
Say it with me, "There are no such thing as SLOTS! A character either gets IN OR DOESN'T due to whether the character is considered GOOD for SAKURAI based on various FACTORS, and if there is ENOUGH TIME!"

Definitely a new move set. I think her staff will be her main "gimmick."

Maybe something like...

Standard attacks - graceful staff jabs/twirls, shield bashes
Smash attacks - short range bursts of light from her staff
Standard special - orb projectiles from her staff
Side special - probably something from her Uprising boss battle
Up special - floats around (like Pit's Brawl recovery, but without wings)
Down special - Mirror Shield (Pit already has a new down special)
Final Smash - Centurion Army (with Pit getting a new Final Smash)

Rosalina uses her wand to control Luma and to cast cosmic magic, Zelda summons fire and electricity from the palm of her hand, and Palutena would use her staff to cast light. There's surprisingly very little overlap between the three.
