Gonna double dip on this one. I have it on the ps3 and it is really fun, but I never finished it. Why did it get low scores, plus, did the game sell well?

Great news for fans of the game! Might buy it if I can run it. Now Halo 3 should be announced any day now, right guys? Right?

"Gonna double dip on this one. I have it on the ps3 and it is really fun, but I never finished it. Why did it get low scores, plus, did the game sell well?"

It got low scores because game reviewers are bad at games.

Annoyingly, I just bought it on PS3 before Christmas. I swear this late port business is the reason I shouldn't buy a PS4/XB1. Remove the temptation altogether, problem solved.

Oh awesome. A great game. Sad it never got the co-op patch on consoles.

It didn't? I've never tried it myself but my PS3 version has both online and local co-op, according to the menu screen. I'm gonna go Double Dragon Check that now...

EDIT: Nope, you're right. Local co-op only. Damn.

It got low scores because the first playthrough of the game is a fucking slog and the pacing of the comedy in the game only hits an acceptable state once you've leveled up to a certain point.

So yeah, if most reviews are based on the first playthrough of that game, most people probably thought it SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKED.

The game has more to offer beyond that initial playthrough though, most of which said reviewers probably never saw.

DDN left a terrible first impression though. I hated that game for a WHILE until I played it co-op with a few friends and it all came together.

AH yeah. Saw this game during a speedrun charity event and that was enough to put it on my radar. Will get the PC version for sure.

I was literally thinking about this just yesterday when playing DuckTales: Remastered. I'm guessing the sales of that probably convinced them to port Double Dragon: Neon.

"It got low scores because the first playthrough of the game is a fucking slog"

It's definitely slower than most beat em ups, especially before you figure out gleam. But it takes all of 1 level to realize that you should be abusing the shit out of gleam and that changes the game drastically.

"Not a fan of Wayforward, but I remember seeing a combo video that almost sold me on the game, lol. Will wait and see."

Yes, what you can do with combos with run/crouch cancelling is pretty fun.

I never thought the game explained gleem well enough to make it seem like a mechanic that needed to be universally used. Even after finishing the game, I don't think it was until I saw that speedrun at SGDQ that I learned how much gleem could be abused.

Like I said, it leaves a TERRIBLE first impression, but it's exponentially better once you get your bearings. Unfortunately, that can take some time.

Awesome. I been hoping DDN gets a PC release for a while now. I even bought the OST in bandcamp when I first heard some tracks. Jake Kaufman is a beast at vidya music.

Majesco publishing another game on Steam is an equally large surprise: it has never discounted either of the BloodRayne games or Advent Rising.

This game doesn't fully realize the vision in my head, but I've always wanted a side scrolling beat-em-up with mechanics to match that of a proper fighting game combo system. Cancels, footsies etc. Obviously paced to suit a side scrolling beat-em-up.

So hyped for this. DDN was just about the only beat-em-up I've been able to enjoy in many years, and I'm looking forward to playing it with online co-op finally!

Footsies is more of a mental thing, it's not really something you can put in a game where you're fighting a small gang of AI. Although, I suppose Karateka and Prince of Persia kinda had that going.
