So the wording is kind of unclear. Can I go back and watch a random Raw from 1998 if I want to or are they only making certain matches from those shows available?

With the original programming angle, they need to shove truckloads of money at DDP. Have him do an exercise show and a rehab show focused on the wrestlers he's helping. Also a great way to finance new people coming in to get help.

It doesn't seem like that's in there (that would be WAY over 1,500 hours), but from what I can see, any future Raws and Smackdowns will be on there. At least that's what I'm getting from "encore" showings.

Wow, even at $10 a month which to us seems really cheap (because it is), they're likely much better off than they would have been with a TV channel:

While a more traditional channel could ensure a certain level of distribution, McMahon, chairman of WWE, said in an interview that the terms pay-TV distributors wanted in return for carrying a WWE channel were "too restrictive."

McMahon said WWE had deals ready to go with major distributors for a network that would have generated fees of 20 cents per month, per subscriber.

"I said, much to the chagrin of my staff, I’m not going to sign it," McMahon said.
So for every 50 people who would have ordered the TV channel, they only need 1 person to subscribe to the streaming network and they make the same amount of money (minus a bit for bandwidth etc but for the sake of argument let's say they get the full $10).

Hah! That's exactly what I posted a few posts back! DDP's Accountability Crib on YouTube is very entertaining.

They will slowly start to open up the old library. If it isn't there now, it will be eventually.

Yeah they'll have tons of old Raws and Nitros

I mean they already did most of the work for their on-demand and website stuff

I know they have Raws/Nitros from 95 to 99 at least prepared for airing

Well that sucks. Hopefully they'll start funneling in that content in over time so I can watch whole years of Raw and Smackdown again.

Ah, that's good to know. I would definitely like to check those out at some point. I've missed so much since I last followed rasslin'.

Edit: Zen_Arcade, see above, for a more informed comment than mine :)

I stopped watching wwe year's back as I just couldn't stand it anymore yet I am down for this service, he'll even my wife who isn't really into wrestling said she would be interested in subscribing to watch the older stuff.

For once living in the UK could help, hopefully by the time it gets here they will have loads of early Raw and Nitro episodes up so I can just go through on all the early stuff and see all the wcw stuff I missed.

as much as I hate some of the shitty business decisions wwe make, this one is truly amazing and could really help and change them for the better.

Missed the event and am just now piecing together all the info.

Does anyone know how good the MLB Advanced Network is?

When we all load up the service to watch our 600$ of PPV yearly content will we get Netflix level service?

Another among the "not watched wrasslin in a decade, but will probably sub", kind of crazy how a really good value proposition could rekindle interest.

Kind of wish Shane was around, I bet he would have pushed for them to offer to carry indie PPVs/content as well with revenue sharing.

Would be interesting if they became the wrestling channel in addition to this, basically

Funny because Shane does work for a Chinese version of Netflix.

I haven't watched current WWE programming since the Benoit tragedy, but this deal is bonkers and I'm gonna give it a 6 month try just for the back catalog alone. Having stuff like Wrestlemania included is just icing on a tasty cake.

Here's my anecdotal story as to why WWE Network is a great business decision.

Last year after WM29, I ended my cable subscription. WWE was the only reason I considered keeping it. Otherwise, I can watch all my favorite shows (minus HBO) legally on Amazon or iTunes. Now that WWE Network is available as an app, I will certainly be subscribing.

I'm sure there are others like me, who did not subscribe to cable and therefore didn't spend any money on PPVs. Now that this app is available without cable, WWE will be getting my money. I imagine there is a significant amount of customers who are doing the same.

This whole idea is brilliant. It's such a better option than a standard network, especially for those who have zero interest is a cable subscription.

Will they do a cross-promotion with Vivid to get Chyna as She-Hulk?

I actually started ordering WWe PPVs on the WWE xbox app. It was a flat rate unlike all the bullshit fees on cable.

This next step as a value is infinitely better.

Haven't watched wrasslin' in a while but im hype.
WWE must have working on this for a long time, welcome to next gen mofos!

ITS GODLBERG!!!!!

You know what would be awesome? Being able to easily watch all of the PPVs chronologically. Like, being able to select which promotion or promotions you want to include and then just go go go in order. That would be amazing.

yeah that would be great! and with the weekly tv stuff it would be perfect. pick a start day and just watch it exactly like 15 years ago :)

Initially, McMahon wanted to start the network a few years ago with a dedicated channel on DirecTV, Dish, and cable providers. At WM28, there were discussions around it then, and even a small announcement. Then it went dark, so odds are, some research was done with the realization that this can be a lot more money in the long run.

Its going to be freakin' awesome. November to Remember '95 here I come!

Im in for the ECW and WCW library alone. But throw some of the good WWF stuff. Nice.

This makes calling in sick days a lot more fun. Oh I think Ill stay home today lay in baed and watch Heatwave 98, or Starrcade!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope this takes off like a rocket because there's so many directions for original programming they could go. Regal tweeted after the presser that he'd just finished studio interviews for a documentary about his career that will show on the network. There's hundreds of guys/gals like him that have interesting stories to tell but who probably couldn't carry a $20 DVD. Somebody else mentioned a "Superstar Rehab with DDP" show. How about live NXT "PPVs" to blow off big angles in a live setting instead of a taped show?

The one thing I thought would be interesting would be a show taking someone who made the main roster but didn't make much of an impact (Zack Ryder for example) and have him start again from the bottom. Send him to NXT to reinvent himself and follow him the whole way. Or you could do this with someone coming back from a major injury.

Geez, I'd probably watch Mick Foley touring the country, riding his favorite roller coasters.

IIRC WWE wanted a ESPN like sweetheart deal where they were in a package everyone was pretty much required to purchase and they got a huge per subscriber fee and cable companies said "umm how bout no?"

Hey did they say I can watch this on my PS4 and XOne?

PS3 and PS4, yes. Xbone 1:

PS4 yes (they even showed that app interface), Xbox One in the future.

Sleeping on it for a night, this sounds incredible. I'm kinda surprised of the week it's launching- launch 1 week early, and all day 1 adaptors 6 months would run out a few days before Summerslam, forcing a re-subscribe.

I'm also worried that next year we don't get WM. Just seems like a loss leader this year to get the service started- the reason WM is such a week long affair and big deal like it is comes from the PPV revenue. Now, while the smaller shows are going to be more profitable, WM is going to shrink in profits.

I have no interest in this. WWE has been very medicore over the last 7 years. Quit feeding the WWE machine and give some honest to goodness WRESTLING promotions a try like ROH and PWG.
