It's pretty much guaranteed that Sakurai will reveal Diddy when Tropical Freeze comes out, unless of course there's another Nintendo Direct before then.

His expressions and general depiction seem to be based really heavily on his anime, which I think Sakurai did character designs for. Seems like technology's caught up enough to bring it full circle.

I'm looking forward to the post-Tropical Freeze slate, when there's not really anything but Mario Kart (which would bring Wario, I guess?) confirmed. Should prep us for more unexpected returns and hopefully confirm some of the veterans in doubt.
I mean, I'd say Marth was the most exciting veteran so far, simply because he was so out of left field (though his awesome design probably helped).
He was litterally one of the best characters in brawl.
