Random question time~!

Has anyone else fundamentally changed their desires on what they'd like to see in terms of characters/stages/content since before the E3 reveal and now?

I used to have a sorta generic list of characters I wanted, but everything we know and have seen from SSB4 has made me fundamentally change not just my expectations but wants as well.

Curious if I'm alone in this.

Fuck I wish Nintendo would even give us a hint for a time frame for the release of this even if we have to wait a whole while for the actual release date.

The one thing that changed the most for me is that I really wanted Ridley to be in, but I've been losing interest in him at a steady pace for some time now.

My other wants are still intact, though.

I don't know if the E3 reveal made me rethink my approach to the roster or if my opinions simply changed over time, but there's a marked difference. I'd like for there to be as many characters as possible, but I'm not really concerned with who those characters might be. I struggle to come up with a solid wish list because most of the characters I really want have already been confirmed. (This isn't a very specific request, but I'd love to see a couple of new retro characters.)

Looking back at my most recent wish list, Ridley was at the top. And honestly... I don't even care about Ridley. I'm not a big Metroid fan, and he isn't a very exciting character. I really think it speaks to how comprehensive the Smash Bros. roster has become that the giant purple dragon-alien mid-boss from Metroid is the community's most demanded newcomer.

Yeah, the avatar situation is a bit ill-conceived. Requesting multiple avatars isn't really fair, and some of those members aren't even active anymore.

Just for clarity, the avatar list was in no way my idea. I'm just sticking by the rules the thread seems to have agreed on to avoid a mess. (which is why stuff like multiple avatars of the same char & other weird things I do are totally not accounted for :3c)

I didn't like the idea of Pac-Man at first, but I'm starting to realize how much he would bring to the game. With Mario, Sonic and Mega Man in it already, it Pac-Man would be a perfect fit as yet another classic character. Bringing them all together would be such a huge celebration of gaming.

Also, I seem to want Little Mac and Palutena more and more.

About the characters, not really. I still want to see some like Lucina, Palutena, an other metroid rep, etc. About the stages, certainly yeah, probably because I played more games between June and now. I'd like to see something from ALBW and Pokemon XY or X related stuff on the wii u version.

I used to really want to see King K. Rool. Now I don't really care. It's weird.

Initially I wanted to see a badass brawl between the "kings" (Dedede, Bowser, and Ganondorf kinda) but now, K. Rool just doesn't really measure up. Idk.

I was kind of down on the idea of Pac-Man before, but now I'm warming up to it. Chibi-Robo went from 0 to 100 with his recent game, and now with Dedede's fantastic remastering I really want to see something really outlandish from Kirby like Bandanna Waddle Dee (aka Spear King, King of Spears).

Well I can safely say that as time has gone on my hopes for Ridley get more and more crushed, in truth he'd be a hassle to fit in as a playable character in a platform fighter like this due to being all gangly if anything. With the revealed Metroid stage for Wii U being his boss room from Other M and looking pretty plain in layout and currently gimmick free (though it wouldn't surprise me if we get rising lava once again knowing Sakurai and co) I can see him taking up the role of stage hazard here which is fine. I'll still throw a celebration if he ever were revealed though.

None of the newcomers so far do that much for me but I do think they all show that you can't predict the moves Sakurai will make. Everyone had counted out Villager based on previous comments back in the Brawl period, Wii Fit Trainer swerved everyone and I don't think anyone would have seriously suggested the Rosalina and Luma combo outside of her superfans (keeping in mind that we didn't know until recently that she'd make the jump to playable platformer in 3D World). As such debates about who has the most chance, who deserves a spot and all that seem kind of meaningless, there are trains of logic one can take to try and predict the upcoming roster and on paper it looks to make sense weighing the likes of popularity, franchise worth and all of that jazz yet these trains don't appear to be arriving at the Smash destination.
In a way this gives me hope that some of my character wishes that are deemed unlikely through the whole smash deduction method might not be so far out after all, Sakurai seems willing to give a shot to anything notable he can whip up a unique moveset for.
I'm just left wondering now when we'll see some newcomers that represent something more retro (which includes SNES and N64 these days), aside from Mega Man being almost entirely based on his NES interpretation we've mostly seen newcomers that represent a more modern Nintendo.

Lastly if I do want to run with the whole deserved character spot angle, Little Mac really should have a place here, that thought of mine has remained consistent even if he's not my personal frontrunner for newcomers.

I might be blanking, but are there any notable heavyweights left besides Ridley and K. Rool?

SSB64 had Donkey Kong, Melee had Bowser, and Brawl had Dedede. Obviously, there isn’t a written rule stating that each Smash Bros. must include a new large heavyweight character, but for the sake of overall balance it makes sense to include different types of newcomers.

King Hippo.

Think about it.

slightly more serious answer: Ganon, maybe? He's shown up recently and he's a recurring boss fight in the series and it'd be a more interesting use of the character than relegating him to Dorf's final smash.

we got rosalina!

Waluigi went from one of my most wanted characters to I-dont-really-care now that Rosalina is in (bleh)
King K Rool just isn't going to happen so I've accepted having just Dixie Kong in. If I had it my way both would be in (even if 4 for DK seems like a lot)

Chibi Robo shot up to my most wanted character after the 3DS game was announced and I got to thinking about his move set potential. I really, really want to see him in.

My desire to see Pac Man in the game has also grown steadily from E3 time. Him, Chibi, and Anna (FE) are the three characters I want to see most now, I don't think that will change

King Hippo.

Think about it.
He's only semi-prominent because of the Captain N cartoon. He's just one of many opponents in the actual games -- there isn't any added importance placed on him. We definitely wouldn't get a random enemy before Little Mac, and there's a negative chance that Punch-Out!! would get two playable characters.

Technically, we have Rosalina (but she has some sort of anti-gravity thing going on so she is easy to knockback).
Edit: beaten also..

know it's a bit late for this, but the wiifit girl looks so out of place in this game it hurts
How so?

You assume very little of a franchise that's older than Nintendo's overseas console business.

And I only say King Hippo because he's the only character in the whole of Punch-Out who really deviates much from standard boxer tropes. Even Mac falls into the trap of not being a very interesting character.

As someone who loves the heavyweights more than any other character type I am hoping for more. Ike and to an extent Snake show that heavy doesn't have to come in character sizes of the bulky variety so who knows where they could pull more weighty power characters from.
K.Rool is still the dream, seeing the improved designs and more expressive characters in this upcoming game makes me hunger even more for a retooled K.Rool design than before.

The only idea I've seen since then that made me go "hey, that'd be cool" is classic pig demon Ganon as a distinct character. Everyone else I wanted before, I still want, though I never had any hope for some of them to begin with. I'm content to continue being pleasantly surprised by whatever new madness Sakurai throws at us.

As far as characters go (I don't really care about specific stages and items) I have the exact same list I had before the reveal; to the point that even though I'm playing Kid Icarus right now, and I greatly appreciate the interaction between Pit and Palutena, I still couldn't care less about her as a character for Smash.

Isaac, Ridley, Paper Mario, Dixie Kong, Little Mac, Mewtwo and (yeah I know) Geno. Those are the ones I want, plus new movesets for clones and semi-clones and Megaman, who's already been announced. Everything else I'd be ok with (like Rosalina), and I can expect (Pac-Man/Mii), but my list of favorites newcomers hasn't changed at all.

You forgot about me... ;_;

And can I call seconds on the Wonderful 101/Wonder Red character?

Added you

Naw, you are not alone in this situation. I lost interests in few characters that I would like to see in the games like King K Rool and Ridley. I would be happy if they got in but I'm not longer craving for it. I stopped expecting second parties characters to be in the game as well, but I would like to see them to be in the game, but I don't expected them to be in.

I dunno. Seems kind of lame some people are camping out on multiple ones too.

Yeah, the avatar situation is a bit ill-conceived. Requesting multiple avatars isn't really fair, and some of those members aren't even active anymore.

Few people chose to requesting for multiple avatars because they knew that they are more likely not to be playable characters, but if they got in then they would take what it is and passed on those characters to people who called it second. Both of you still have chance to call something.

I want Little Mac, Pac-Man and Palutena even more since I can see a lot of potential in them. I really hope that Sakurai would have Palutena with Centurion for a combo reason. Centurion might work like Luma but with long range attacks.

What about Rosalina? She is heavyweight in Mario Kart, so I don't know how Sakurai would think with Rosalina's weight.

Other choices would be King Hippo, Pushmo, Samurai Goroh, Ganon Pig, and Heavy Pokemon.

I think pacman would fit OK, but I just really like the idea of an all nintendo brawler. Mega Man is probably my favorite videogame franchise, and I'm even ambivalent about him joining the fray. Better him than jiggly or ice climbers though...

Before the e3 reveal I wanted villager (done), megaman (never in my wildest dreams did I see this coming true), Isaac or another GS rep, Ridley, Shulk, and another FE character ideally Chrom or Avatar. I also expected Baby Bowser to be playable.

I wouldn't have wanted rosalina in the game until she ended up playable in 3d worlds, I also would have never expected toon link to return. Also before e3 I was rather 50/50 on playable miis but now I feel more confident that they'll be included and I kind of want to see them.

Other then that my list hasn't really changed all that much.

Of all the third party characters introduced in the last decade or so, you'd have to think Layton would be the one with the closest link to Nintendo. Layton in Smash ain't even that unlikely.

My "wants are pretty much the same, the main thing that has changed is that someone one posted a Duck Hunt Dog moveset drawing in one of the OTs and since then I have been wanting the Dog to appear in smash.

Other than that its pretty much the same.

Nintendo really gave a strong push to the series in the UK, almost to the point that it feels like one of Nintendo's own.

Mike Tyson for Smash 4. Three times the size of Little Mac. Bigger than Ridley.

Looking back over the new pics, Din’s Fire is confirmed (I didn’t pause at exactly the right frame/angle for the Brawl pic, but you get the idea):

zIUJTaM.png

So, now that we know Farore’s Wind and Din’s Fire are returning, the potential Phantom special move would have to replace Nayru’s Love (this would be incredibly random) or the Sheik transformation.

I still want Ridley, Little Mac, Palutena, and the return of Mewtwo. I've kinda given up on Ridley but I'm still pretty hopeful for the other three. Other then that, and assuming most of the Brawl roster returns, I'm pretty happy with the roster.

Nice, good eye. I liked the goddess powers being part of Zelda's move set.

Pac-Man has a great history with Nintendo though. Miyamoto once developed a Pac-Man game on the GameCube.
