Do you reckon FFXV and/or MGSV will get PC ports?

These are my two most anticipated games this gen. Recently I've been thinking that if PC versions were to be announced I may build my first gaming rig to play these on, rather than my PS4.

I would guess that even if PC ports happened they wouldn't be simultaneous with the console releases. (In which case I'd be torn on the whole thing).

So what are GAFs educated guesses?

Yes. Next-gen consoles have a similar architecture to PCs and the fact that there are a few successful Japanese PC ports that have come out recently will make it easier for publishers to see it's worth it.

FFXV on PC? haha no way pal.

MGSV has a pretty high chance for a PC port.

Sony may have some sort of deal with Square and Konami regarding those two franchises that could limit possible ports. MGR is region locked in Asia and I'm guessing because Sony has some sort of deal saying that it can only be on PS3 in the region (360 version didn't come out in Asia either).

There's no reason why the FF series can't be on PC, but I doubt FFXV will.

Oh well, we've got some vintage FF titles as well as XIV at least.

I'm more confident that MGSV could potentially makes it's way onto PC out of those two as MGS Revengeance PC is finally out. I don't get the feeling that SquareEnix is particularly interested in the PC platform apart from social games bs, even if they have been bringing their back catalog to Steam.

Didn't they demo the original Ground Zeros demo on PC? They've been going on about their new engine and its multiplatform capabilities, so that suggests a PC version is likely.

Am still confused on how MGSV: TPP will be on the pervious gen. To answer your question: MGSV will probably come packed with both TTP/GZ, but no way that FFXV is coming.

Don't see a huge overlap between these fanbases and PC fanbase.

Don't count on FFXV. It is more likely that the Xbox One version is canceled than a PC port, imo.

LOL, the only way this happens is if the Xbone itself is cancelled. So yeah, in your dreams.

Kojima said he hopes to release it on PC, and I'm pretty sure MGR is a good sign that it will come. Not sure what's happening with FF though.

I wonder how Rising performed on Steam since that might be a big indicator for Konami to put MGSV or even MGS:GZ on PC

FFXV had enough problems during development already, don't think we'll see this one on PC

The job listing for MGS5 from forever ago flatout listed PC. Obviously things can change, especially with this company. But, at some point they were definitely aiming for a PC release:

"Kojima Productions will be returning to the GDC Career Pavilion (March 6-9) to search for skillful engineers, artists, and game creators including: Project engineers for the latest Metal Gear Solid targeted for high-end consoles and PC, engineers to help develop next-gen game engine technology for use with the FOX Engine,"

Link.

I hope FFXV comes on PC I don't want to buy a PS4 for just one game. They did say it was being developed on PC or running on a PC at some point.

There are these days, looking at Steam communities it's clear that a whole lot of PC gamers (or at least Steam gamers) are former console gamers these days. MGR has been in the top sellers on Steam for days now.

Where did he say this and when?

Here.

"Currently [a PC port would] require a pretty expensive PC, but if we get a lot of people in the future who want to play it with full specs, I think we can discuss supporting that."

MGSV seems incredibly likely, whether it's the same day as consoles or not is the main question IMO.

FFXV is a possibility, I know it was teased for PC but this is Square Enix we're talking about.

On a different note, it's a shame that KH3 will never get a PC release. At the moment it's the reason I want a PS4 (but I'm waiting until it's actually out before I buy one, unless something amazing comes beforehand).

I would think MGSV would be ported to PC... Whether it'll be at the same time as PS4/X1 though... not so sure. Maybe if the success of MGR was very good, it may encourage them to port to PC too.

FFXV not as likely in my mind sadly. They do seem to be porting a lot of FF's to steam lately though, like FF8, so suggests they're taking PC more seriously, but whether they'll do it for a AAA current gen FF simultaneously at the same time as PS4/X1 development seems another matter to me, and if they want to port it later, I just can't see it as being one of their top priorities sadly.

"similar architecture" has nothing to do with drivers and apis. Linux can not run windows games and both can be ran on the exact same hardware.

I am going to say a big fat no to these two. and if MG5 does come it will be a year later.

I'm virtually sure of it.
Beside, both companies (Konami and Square Enix) at some point even hinted about the possibility.

EDIT- Here's the quote from Square, for instance:

Final Fantasy XV is being created at a quality higher than next-gen consoles are capable of, and the game is being ported down to consoles capable of running DirectX 11. Nomura specifically says that Square Enix will consider releasing the game for other hardware capable of running DirectX 11 as well. We’re going to assume that a PC release for FFXV is a very serious possibility.

Yeah, when I read the thread title, I thought that MGS5 was coming out on PC. A lot of my friends are going to be disappointed to find out that it isn't.

There seems to be hints that they're considering a PC port of MGSV.

Let's remember a few things:

  • Back when Metal Gear Rising was first announced as a Kojima Production games, before Platinum took it over, it was listed as Xbox 360, PS3 and PC game. It went dark for a while on the PC version looking like it was cancelled along with the move to Platinum. Konami seemingly still wanted that PC version of Metal Gear Rising and got Platinum on it afterwards.
  • They were hiring PC developers for their studios.
  • "Of course we are developing on a PC, so we look forward to releasing something on the PC sometime," said Kojima through an interpreter. "But right now we don't have a release date. We aren't really looking to do that right now. That's not a priority. So, we are making it and we hope to put it out as well." - Source: http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/06/12/k...-pc-not-a-priority-but-could-appear-sometime/

I think it'll come, but perhaps on the same timescale as Metal Gear Rising, perhaps earlier given the likely disruption to the PC version the move to Platinum made. Perhaps Metal Gear Rising sells enough Konami will stick another team on getting a PC release ready for launch or near launch.

Although that last part is maybe wishful thinking, I just don't want to play it on my PS4 or Xbox One :(

As for FFXV - I think that's a possibility too. Let's not forget they've done two MMOs on the PC - with the latest one being on the PC quite a while before the console versions.

FFVII and FFVIII were already on PC. When FFIX shows up on Steam, that will mean something.

No logical reason not you. As MGR showed once again, you're leaving money on the table by not offering your game on the platform.

'pretty expensive' PC my arse. You could probably play it with an AMD FX CPU, 8GB RAM and GTX 760 series or equivalent. By the time FFXV is out that won't be expensive at all.

Not to mention Xbox One and PS4 basically ARE PC's. I don't even know if you could get away with calling, say, a Steam release a 'port' because I'd imagine the amount of work done to put it there would be minimal.

With Metal Gear Rising doing as good as it is, I hope Kojima is keeping that in mind.

FF XV, however.... One can dream, but probably won't happen. We're talking SE, here.

It's reasons like this that it's still good to have a console.

FFXV: dunno, maybe.
MGSV: most definitely.

Weird. To me seems essentially the other way around.
I see FFXV extremely likely. Maybe not even a delayed release.
MGS V will eventually happen, maybe, but even if that's the case I doubt it's going to be before several months after the console releases.
