Alright, I got myself the best armor I could and luckily found some bombs. I have now beaten the first boss and got to the beta sector!

Is there like a home planet on the GAF sever everyone meets up on?
Depends on the reset. Its split between anything that would affect YOUR CHARACTER (your character and your ship), and anything that would affect THE UNIVERSE (planets/map)I have a few questions about how single/multiplayer work...
1) During wipes/resets, does it also reset your single player stuff?
2) For multiplayer, is it always "all or nothing" or can you create/host a server for just a few friends?
3) If #2 is a "yes", do resets apply here as well? Or do resets only apply to the everyone multiplayer?
Tiy originally posted this explanation in Crashdoom's Starrybound AMA thread, but the thread has since been deleted so I'm re-posting it here for easier access.
"I've decided we're going to be pulling this mod from the official repository and officially telling people to stay away from it. Here are the reasons why.
- Zidonuke (one of the major contributors to this mod) was involved in an unofficial release of the minecraft tool bukkit. Which gave him backdoor access to other people's servers, which he then used to ban admins from their own servers. https://forums.bukkit.org/threads/mcblock-it.65593/ || http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNNJys6H0gE
- Zidonuke became staff on a forum called the f-list, he used his position to read users private messages. Eventually he admined everyone on the site and cleared the ban list. Essentially destroying the forums. https://www.f-list.net/newspost/158/
- Zidonuke hopped onto another little project called PWO ( Pokemon World Online ). He was made a developer, and deleted PWO's data and server-side coding due to being frustrated with criticism from the community. He deleted the game and it's databases, released everyones passwords/usernames, etc. http://iblamelee.co.uk/pwo/wiki/index.php?title=Pokémon_World_Online
- Crashdoom was the developer of a minecraft mod called MCBans. At one point a player called Doridian gained access rights he shouldn't have had that allowed him to ban players from their own servers. Doridian is Zidonukes partner.
- Crashdoom + Zido distributed a client for minecraft called yiffcraft, that was essentially a hacked/griefing client for minecraft. Crashdoom claims his account was hacked and the hacker used his account to distribute the client. However, that seems less and less likely with Zidonuke involved.
- Crashdoom is a frequent poster on hacking forums
- There has been speculation that crashdoom, zidonuke and doridian are all the same person.
- Zidonuke / Doridian caused similar drama with 'tshock' a similar mod for Terraria. http://www.terrariaonline.com/threa...w-someone-who-is-read-this-immediately.34616/
- Crashdoom and Zidonuke have logged into the Starbound forums from the same IP address. Suggesting that either they are the same person or their involvement is deeper than suggested.
- Crashdoom has been pming chucklefish staff/moderators attempting to have bad reviews/informative criticism on his mod page removed. (we haven't complied).
- Whilst the code is available for peer review, there are executables released along side the source that could contain anything.
- The code contains this: http://pastebin.com/Z7Em369g Whilst this code isn't malicious. It is sending stats to a third party server. Something I've yet to see disclosed?
- This kind of drama rubbish is a waste of my and everyone elses time.
- Finally, we're going to be adding our own server management commands/tools anyway.
Whilst all of this could be one massive coincidence, clearly things here aren't on the up and up. My first priority here is protecting the Starbound community. Sadly it's impossible for us to check the contents of every tool/mod. But staying away from executables is a good start."

Look for the Forest planet.

Anything regarding your character is stored locally on your computer, anything regarding the universe is stored on the computer/server that you play on.
You can host your own server for multiplayer. Just be aware that for your friends, the "universe" exist on your computer, so anything you would do in single player in the universe, would exist in multiplayer.
EDIT: That is, if you host on your computer. You can rent a server out to avoid that, if you'd like.
As mentioned earlier, you could mess around and create two game folders to keep them separate. Wouldn't run them at the same time though.
See answer to #1. Character resets apply to everyone. Universe/server resets only apply to wherever the universe resides.
Haven't touched the mod when it was brought up there was something fishy.HaRyu this is for you mainly:

Yeah, I think most of them have stopped playing and are waiting for a wipe.Ok now I I think I found the right planet. There was this big structure right where I beamed down. Lots of NPC in there. Is it like Terraria that if you build the right rooms they come to you?
Seems like no one is ever on the server when I am playing though.
Yeah, I think most of them have stopped playing and are waiting for a wipe.
Hmm I see. Then I guess I might also wait for a bit and start with you guys all over again.
I know that I for one will be playing the shit out of starbound after the wipe. Going to set up a nice pyramid base on one of the desert/arid worlds in the Gaf system. Just Like I did already.
I want to explore with fellow GAFers and build like an awesome base on one planet we all agree on.
loving this game so far, but for some reason the game doesn't want to go fullscreen. When I click 'fullscreen', it just maximizes the window and i can still see the 'desktop' stuff. It's kind of a pain when i'm clicking around and accidentally grab the top bar.
Anyone know how to 'force' fullscreen?

Hmm?
Which "I click fullscreen" are you talking about?
If you go to Options and then tick the Fullscreen box on, it goes true fullscreen.
(Granted, I hardly USE that option, so I have no idea if you can still access desktop stuff so easily from it. I'm assuming you mean you see the Windows bar at the bottom of the screen when you're in fullscreen?)
Yeah, just press F11. Sometimes (rather, every time, for me) you have to press it twice or more for it to work, for some reason. If you were clicking the squares in the "_ [ ] X " buttons top right of the title bar, you were just maximizing the window, not fullscreening the game.

Starting playing this game 4 days ago with the expectation that I would get bored in 10 minutes. Here I am now after marathon playing each day from 4-8 hours. Even in it's current state, I'm loving this game.
Everyday I check this thread for the incoming wipe patch, so I can start playing again...
Everyday I cry...

About a week until we can all rush back in!
So, about character wipes... is there a way I can save everything I've gathered with my current character and kind of store it on a home planet? Can I just put a bunch of stuff in the chests and get back to them?

Calling it now, I'm claiming a planet near gafworld and developing it given how much I've developed gafworld on a regular basis
Blurp.

Based on the info in that post, looks like EVERYTHING is being wiped (character, ships, and planets/universe).
If this is the case, maybe I should just take the server down till the wipe kicks in, since I'm pretty sure now whatever pathetically small amount of traffic we were getting because of the anticipated wipe, will now make it even smaller now that we know the wipe is coming in a week or so.
Started playing tonight. So far, having a lot of fun. Couple questions:
Is there a way to delete a character profile from the load character screen?
Also my first planet keeps dropping me directly on top of a really strong monster that I can't seem to kill, and it chases me if I try to run. Is this normal? Any way I can find a better landing zone?
Right now, I think the only way is to go into the Starbound folder, find the PLAYER folder, and just delete the appropriate data. Its a bit hard to tell which ones to delete though, so just load your character once, then match up the timestamp on the file.
You can't change your landing zone (yet), but at the very least, you can build a little shelter you can port into when you make landfall on a planet.
Just make a small little shack. Monster won't spawn inside any buildings, so as long as you make one on the spot where you make landfall, you'll avoid any nasty surprises.
Not sure if anyone will be interested, but Wanderlust, a game that I believe is from the same developers of Starbound (or perhaps only published?), is 70% off at DailyRoyale. Comes with Steam and Desura keys plus direct download, and seems interesting at least (sort of like a 4p Zelda with more RPG elements?). Installing it right now.

It seems bigger than most monsters and kills me before I get a chance to collect any resources...it's all good, though, I'll just make a new character. From what I hear a wipe is imminent so this'll be a good time to feel around a little bit.
Ah. I have had that issue. You landed right next to a sub-boss. They can be tough at first but they drop pretty good starting weapons from what I remember.

I'm still trying to figure out why I'm interested in this game and not Terraria. Probably the Sci-fi theme and lavender Avians. And the Matter Manipulator device. First thing I did was look for a mod that added upgraded versions of that tool.
Having a game that was made for modding on the word go is such a welcome relief compared to all the hell I went through modding Minecraft pre-Forge.
