Which reminds me. I need to finish watching Luck.

Warning: You're just gonna end up angry there was no 2nd season. The first one is great, and totally worth watching, but you can feel it building and building to the point that you know season 2 was going to have some great confrontations. Unfortunate situation, really.

Also Dustin Hoffman and Dennis Farina (RIP) were one of the best tv partnerships of all time in the short season

I took his comments about how he meditates on the Agony in the Garden as an indication that he, at least in part, thinks his life is some kind of sacrifice that he's allowing to happen.

Okay, I could see that. I don't think he sees himself as a savior, but it does seem like he relates to Christ's willful crucifixion.

What an incredible premiere. I thought it would be solid because of the cast, the premise, and that it's on HBO. Didn't think it would have that level of atmosphere and characterization right off the bat. That was awesome.

I just caught this last night. An absoloutly excellant pilot. Its got that bleak suffocating vibe to it that i love.McConaughey was quality too.I'm really looking forward to the next episode.

That first episode was terrific. Great acting all around and an interesting story, though something about those antlers brought me back to Hannibal.

Very well done! I expected the acting to be good, but everything else is just as awesome. Really looking forward to the rest.

Is it bad I agree with everything McConaughey said in the car?

everything he is in lately is fucking gold. Mud blew me away too. More people should watch it.

Easily one of my fave actors these days. Him + Nolan + the premise of Interstellar is enough to give any human a hard on.

Mud is absolutely fantastic.

He's probably not fun outside them either.

Both things are true. :( But at least I'm not addicted to painkillers and potentially hiding a dark secret!

I do sometimes drink Lone Star though. Funny how he made them go get him beer and he had his flask in his pocket anyways.

We're both quoting the show. :)

But that does remind me of something I was thinking last night as I watched the premiere again. Some people are going to agree with Rust and connect with him while others are going to have the same reaction Marty had. Usually in these situations, the crazy guy says what he wants and the straight man just gives an 'are you serious?' look and moves one, but Marty actually told him to shut the fuck up, which was great. One of those he-said-what-we-were-all-thinking type moments.

Woah! Loved every minute of it. Really liked Matthew McConaughey's character. Woody's characters felt bit basic. I'm sure they will add layers to his character eventually, right now he just felt like regular dude. Setting of the show was also really cool, I have always liked crime movies/shows set in south and they show really interesting side of the south. Not to mention we haven't had occultist serial killer show in a long time.

Well, Woody is a regular type dude. Just with a big ass dick.

A second season is surely a guarantee at this stage given the critical and ratings success, so how come HBO haven't announced it? They're usually quite quick to announce new show renewals, if memory serves correctly.

After watching the first episode several times and then viewing some of the trailers I feel like I've figured out at least some part of why Cole and Marty have a falling out.

You can notice that Marty isn't wearing his wedding ring when being interviewed in the present. And one trailer features a voice over from Maggie telling Marty that it's over. There's also several shots that show Maggie holding Rust's head to her chest. As well as the two of them having a conversation in a restaurant together.

In one trailer you see Marty dive tackle someone in a red plaid shirt. Another trailer show's Rust in the same shirt with half of his face covered in blood. I'm sure there's more to it than that but I think it's safe to assume that at least part of their falling out has to do with Rust having an affair with Maggie. Also it's pretty obvious that Marty likes to have an affair of his own judging from the way he acted when the clerk showed up with some files for his eyes only.

There's a deluge of tv news this week with the TCA conference going on, so maybe they're waiting until things calm down a little. I suspect we'll hear something soon, though they typically announce on Tuesdays.

Does HBOGO frequently not work? I cant get either of my two computers with firefox and IE to play videos any more. Error code d-1006. I did a google search and common problems indicate microsoft updates break this shit, which happened last night (updates)

HBO GO works okay for me on Firefox. The problem is, the stream always starts out at a very low resolution. Then after several minutes go by the stream becomes a proper resolution, after which if you click to another part of the program you're back at square one.

Beyond that I haven't had problems.

I just spent a fucking hour trying to get this to work. Which was a blessing in disguise cause i somehow got my HBO on demand to work through my cable box which has far better picture quality than hbo go.

Long story short, HBO GO requires your cable box to be turned on in order for license authentication to occur through your internet connection. I was fuckin uninstalling system updates and doing system restores.

fuck you comcast.

Huh, that's strange. My "Go's" require Cable access logons but no need for the box to be on. All my On Demands have been non-hd :( so I don't use em. I haven't tried yet but I assume Max Go is still uncastable.

It required me to sign in to the comcast site as well but didnt work. I could load the videos i already viewed but nothing new. As soon as i turned my cable box on it worked.

Wife and I loved it. Then I browsed through the movies and saw EdTV and realized it was the two of them. It was weird.

Anyway, I think this will do so much more for me than Hannibal. I was not a fan of the MC in that, seemed like a miscast to me. But Woody and Matt are going to fucking kill it.

So intrigued in every way.

I cracked it!

Here's how to get subtitles on your TV if you have Comcast Xfinity.

Turn your cable box and TV on. Press Power, Setup and Menu (in that order). Viola! Secret Comcast menu! Change the Subtitles options (remove black background color if you like). Press power. Then power on again and subtitles are on.

I've seen a lot of TV, I'm a huge buff and have been watching religiously for almost 10 years. And damn. This was one of the best pilots I've seen. So much style and engaging elements in the first hour alone! Maybe I'm being cliche/lazy on this, but this felt like a TV show the Coen bros would have made. I loved all the nuance to the characters, and how each scene takes it time setting things up.

Just really really fantastic.

When Marty's wife comes to him with Coffee as he's sleeping on the chair, he immediately cuts her off when she says "I missed you...", and then kisses her on the cheek as he's leaving. You can see her being slightly upset.

Missed that the first time around.

Yeah, I think they grew apart, and Marty having an affair doesn't help any. I can see Rust comforting the wife in the wrong way in future episodes :/

I think she was talking about the daughters missing him, but yeah, same effect.

Why are people (well, the above poster) acting like Marty already had an affair? Just from the foreshadowing with the beautiful girl or was there something more specific that I missed? Was cooking dinner while it was on and missed a few lines of dialogue

I think it was the body language of Marty. From how Marty was acting I felt like it wasn't their first time meeting each other. I just felt there is already something going on.

Their reaction towards each other and their body language are sooo suspicious.

It goes like "I need to brief him and only him", then Marty said "yes, yes, we need to go into this room to talk, alone"

Plus all the other cops just looked at each other with a "What again?" expression (my take).

From the preview, it sounds like some voodoo is getting ready to come out big in the next episode. .

i think I'm the only one who found the premiere just good but not great. I think if it weren't for the actors people would be more critical :p

I really enjoyed it but HBO stuff almost always gets overrated by critics. Tossing super famous actors into the mix increases that exponentially.

Yeah, perfect.

Thinking about the show today the one little thing I liked is just how you know whatever they went through, they're both broken in different ways. Rust may be more obviously worn down, but Marty seems just as much different in the opposite way. Like he's gotten dumber and instead of being aware of his situation as he seemed to be before he's just in total denial.
