The reason people don't have to line up for the Xbox One all-in-one entertainment system for the 21st century is that they follow a different strategy from Sony. Their strategy is having retailers be supplied.

Edit: It's almost scary with how often I'm the first to quote someone that turns out to be banned. This is like "Death Note."
 
This is getting ridiculous. How can a console launched two months ago still have lines? Either Sony screwed up and really underestimated demand (it should have been obvious it was going to be high by E3) or they launched in too many countries and spread themselves too thin. They had better start making sure there are adequate supplies in the main western markets for March or people might just get an Xbox One for the big multiplatform releases given you can pretty much walk into a store and buy one.
 
If PS4 is still sustaining demand after the holidays that is a very good sign. Was worried both systems might drop off a cliff.

This is true, but then on the other side of the coin you have Xbox Ones going for below RRP or just a smidge above it with a game included. I'd say that there's still a disparity in resale demand.
 
BLOWNY needs to MAKE MORE PS4 since obviously they are sitting around doing nothing

probably making more shitty games like BLOWNY All Fails Battle Royfail by SuperNot since that's what BLOWNY does

I do think it's in Sony's best interests NOT to have Wii like scarcity for a year+. People will get tired of waiting and buy XB1s. They need to get the supply situation sorted relatively soon.

Oh I agree. It would be stupid for them to double manufacturing because the demand will eventually ease and they'd be left with a lot of unused capacity. My point was that they should have ensured demand in existing markets was satisfied before sending precious supplies to new markets. I'm not saying as few as Microsoft but there's no real need for them to be on the shelves in over 50 countries so soon - especially when a lot of those places are very small console markets and the PS4 is ridiculously expensive for the average person.

They aren't sending those places much. You don't see any value in building your brand in new markets?

This is a myth--there's no evidence that a significant number of people act this way. People will wait for what they want; not many consumers (especially after the holidays) will "settle" for a more expensive piece of equipment that isn't what they want.
 
it's awesome that there is still so much demand for this system. not only does it bode well for it's future and the support that it will see, but it will also help to shutdown all of the "consoles are dying" talk.

Selling 865k with supply issues is pretty impressive. And people still seem to line up for the system. Maybe another +800k for january NPD? That would be absolute NUTS

Meanwhile, Holland is getting paid dust. Hey Sony, what about us? And by us I mean Europe, not the United States

To a point but there's a tradeoff involved. Markets like India, Phillipines etc aren't huge markets for a top end next generation console. Most of the target market there is wealthy enough to just import it from Dubai or Singapore or the nearest convenient gray market. They shouldn't have even bothered with Brazil till they could find a way to assemble PS4s locally to get the RRP down. I think it would make little difference to their brand whether the PS4 was there or not. I'm sure the total allocation to non core markets for gaming was over 100k units. Those units would have sold instantly in a place like continental Europe who appear to have been shafted on supplies.

What front-loading?

You mean when Infamous, Drive Club, Metal Gear, Thief, possibly Watch Dogs, Dying Light, Wolfenstein, Final Fantasy XIV, The Show, and more start coming out?

It's not a huge line-up for the spring/summer, but it should keep the ball rolling quite nicely, IMO.
 
Sony really dropped the ball on the price of this thing. It could've been 50 or 100 bucks more and it will still have sold out.

I guess the were really humbled by 600 USD and didn't want to go near that price.
