But they don't have that much power, right? They're off in their own little corner. They didn't do something like infiltrate the already mega-conservative GOP and make it worse.

They have no representation in Parliament, currently. But they do have an influence over Conservative policies because many Conservatives see them as a direct threat to their position and finances. This drives them to (theoretically) adopt more anti-European policies.

Playing with fire, then. I see. Well, at least they are not integrated into the conservative party like the 50 or so nutjobs here in the US who basically hijacked the entire debate and literally cheered on the notion of causing a global recession last year. So sorry about that.

I would never vote for them in national elections, but I'm definitely voting for them in the European elections. The more heat those clowns in Brussels get the better.

Those "clowns" in Brussels are the ones who are actually working to benefit *you*.

It's desperately saddening that the propaganda against the EU works. Sure it has flaws, but I'd trust an EU politician to actually look out for me and my interests a thousand times more than the shit we have in Westminster.

I generally agree with this, and I understand the very delicate balance work with regards to inter eu policy that the union represents. It would be nice if barosso would stop extolling the virtues of austerity though despite germany s position.

Well, if this actually goes somewhere, I will become more receptive to the EU.

There's no doubt that there are advantages to being in the EU, but to some people things like sovereignty matter and the fact that the EU today is completely different to what we originally joined all those years ago. I absolutely don't want a great European socialist state, ever closer union, unelected and unaccountable officials handing down orders. No, thank you. I would like us to stick to the single market. If the others want to go another way so be it.

In September 2013, UKIP held 9 of the UK's 73 seats in the European Parliament, three members in the House of Lords and one seat in the Northern Ireland Assembly

It seems that all the anti Euro people vote for UKIP in Euro parliamentary elections.
