Best Buy has new shipments of PS4 in their stores (1/19/2014)! #thirstisreal

I don't see them being available much at all over the next couple of months either with Tomb Raider + Lego Movie Video Game coming in the next few weeks, then heavy hitters like Thief coming in 5 weeks and Infamous/Ground Zeroes a month after that.

Thief is releasing at a good time!

It says 1/20, but...I don't understand how it can get here if it hasn't shipped out today, doubt it will ship out tomorrow (MLK day).

I got a launch ps4 at it arrived late and when it arrive on the site it still said shipping now. Its possible its out there somewhere already.

Sony really dropped the ball on the price of this thing. It could've been 50 or 100 bucks more and it will still have sold out.

I guess the were really humbled by 600 USD and didn't want to go near that price.

Honestly, I kind-of wish it was $50-100 more expensive so that they could put some beefier specs in there. Sony probably could get away with it seeing how well these consoles are selling, although they'd still be giving up a big advantage over the Xbox One.

True, but it would be too risky. Average consumers could barely stomach $400 USD for a home gaming console, & that's not even a mass-market price (Mass-market prices would be ranged between $300 to $350).

Anymore than $400 would be too much for them, & they would rather buy a new tablet or a new smartphone at $500+.

Was at Best Buy today returning an item and they had PS3s just lined up for in-store pick up. Saw a bunch of teens paying for theirs like Randy Moss pays fines. Shipment must've been a decent size because I saw at least 30 behind the counter.

To those who got theirs today, welcome to the club!

Not too crazy considering the system was just released. If people continue lining up on Sundays for 24+ months like with Wii then it will really be crazy.

I don't get the comparisons the Wii. The Wii was a causal phenomenon. The PS4 just isn't, it's a console primarily aimed the core audience.

It's not just the demand that makes this crazy, it's the fact that the PS3 trailed behind by such a significant amount last gen. I knew the PS4 would sell great, but I never thought demand would be this high, at least not in NA.

The fact that the X1, the successor to the 360 which dominated NA and is probably the second best selling console of all time here, barely managed to outsell a heavily supply constrained console in one of the biggest buying months of year tells a lot.

Yea, you could say the X1 is $100 more expensive, and that's true, but even the $600 PS3 sold well back in the day (hell, it's launch in the UK was bigger than the cheaper X1). There's clearly a very real difference in demand, and the only reason MS outdid Sony in NA in Dec. (and maybe this month) is just by default.

I wonder what Best Buy's supply situation is like. Obviously, this type of thing is always a YMMV situation, but Best Buy is practically the only store I've been to locally in the last couple of weeks that doesn't have it. I've been to two different Target locations and a Toys 'R Us about five times over the past week and a half, and all have had at least a couple of PS4s on the shelf every time, but not Best Buy. I didn't check, but if there were lines at my local Best Buy, that would be crazy to me.

I wonder if a number of people have just given up on checking stores every day, and when somebody like BB announces that they have stock they all come out of the woodwork.

Well, what do you expect to happen realistically? Already PS4 is at 4.2 million sales. I would say max cap for 1st year LTD is 20 million (including the 4.2 Nov-Dec.), and that is still an amazing number.

You expect it to sell like 28-30 mil by next December? It is completely unrealistic.

The Wii sold, what, 20 mil in first year? And I don't believe the PS4 is a Wii-like phenomenon.

At some point, the sales are probably going to slow to a crawl for a number of months before picking up steam again.

Again, it is all speculation.

I agree with these numbers. I think by December 31, 2014, the PS4 would have sold a total of 19-21 million and the XBO 14-16 million. I think these are reasonable expectations based on current trends.

Sony still has yet to launch in Japan and there is clearly still high demand for the PS4 in the US.

It absolutely is like this. Being informative to your customers = more sales.

They're only making like 1 million units a month.

In what alternate universe is Thief a "heavy hitter"?

I can confirm as well. The Northern MA and NH district had around 500 this morning. Lines at most of the stores for opening, and they're pretty much completely gone by noon. Crazy stuff
How many districts/stores do y'all have nationwide? How does your district compare to others WRT size and volume?

Any hints as to how XBone is doing by comparison?

It sounds like I'll need to pull the same tactic that I did to get an XB1 if I want to have a PS4 in time to play Infamous Second son. Bother my co-workers GF who works as a stocker at Target and find out when the best times to show up are.

Couldn't she just hold one for you? Seems like you're pretty much guaranteed one if you ask.

Jeez really? The cameras are still selling well? I guess everyone really wants their 15 minutes of fame + little robots for their kids.

I don't think anyone knows if it's a case of them still selling or if Sony just severely underestimated demand and hasn't really been able to replenish stock. I'm surprised anyone wants one to be honest. Is there anything that even supports it aside from Streaming and Playroom?

I know he is not credible around here (I tend to agree with that sentiment), but Pachter says (on the Bonus Round) Sony is manufacturing 1.4 million/month for 16-17 million in 12 months vs. 1 million for XBO for 12-13 million in 12 months. I tend to believe those numbers. Now he extrapolated 4.2 million in three months (which is incorrect), it is actually 4 months of manufacturing, but lets remember they are not going to produce 1.4 million in the first month of manufacturing. If the number is not 1.4 million, it certainly is very close to it.

I think the PS4 can sell 15-17 million in 2014 for a total of 19-21 million by the end of the year. I don't think that is unreasonable.

They have sold every single system in the U.S, like you can't go anywhere and get a ps4. As soon as they arrive they get sold out. I'm trying to get one since I missed launch and it's ridiculous.

I returned my launch console and it was a fucking frenzy at best buy when i walked in. The main manager of the store came by and he was on the phone telling someone they just got a ps4 back in stock

I'm surprised you didn't get stabbed before getting in the doors.

They'd only need to make 1.3 million a month to hit those numbers. Unless there is some reason that 1000000 is a magic number that can't be surpassed.
I don't expect demand to keep up all year around but they could make up for it next Christmas.

They're only making like 1 million units a month.

Patch just said in latest Bonus Round that Sony has ordered 18 months of 1.4mil production and that MS has ordered 12 months of 1mil production. A lot of consoles will end up on the market during 2014, especially after Japan gets its launch share.

Just Dance 2014 does, but I don't think that's sold much on the PS4.
