Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Fox takes Arwing and allows you to shoot in first-person (cockpit).
Falco takes the Landmaster.
Wolf brings out the Wolfen, but not in first-person. Instead you fly through the stage shooting lasers/dropping bombs.
I can't help but be confused that some people are "happy" that he just isn't bothering on trying to do a proper single player this time, rather than doing it right (i.e. not smash bros adventures in generic jungle/cave land)
Let me clear that confusion up. People would rather see the effort put to something that is more important, the multiplayer. It is no mystery that SSE took up a lot resources for Brawl's development. And I also doubt people even played SSE more than once because there was really no need to (you may replay some of the levels again to get trophies and want not).

Yep that's exactly it. Smash bros is a multiplayer fighting game first. The adventure platforming was a novel idea but it outstayed it's welcome fast. Cutting SSE out replacing it with a reimagining of the melee adventure mode, focusing on balancing the roster, and perfecting multiplayer and online play would be a much better use of resources.

I think it would make more sense the other way around since Falco prefers flying, and he's the best pilot on Team Star Fox.

Actually fox is the better overall pilot, falco is best in a arwing(while slippy is best in the landmaster) fox is suppose to be great all around(and in canon fox has beaten falco in a dog fight, its what caused him to leave before starfox adventures.

I played it through 3 times with different people, but that's an aside point.

The games multiplayer isn't going to be hugely different from melee or brawl. Yeah, the physics might be slightly different, but that's in the single player modes too. Otherwise it might as well just be a (albeit hopefully large) DLC pack for brawl with characters and stages.

If smash was really all about the multiplayer, both melee and brawl wouldn't have made it much, much easier to unlock virtually everyone through single player matches.

It does fit a bit with Nintendos approach to wii u though.
Nintendo: We know we're half assing our games that were on wii to get them out quickly, but please buy wii u anyway.

I'm indifferent to the single-player content. Campaign, no campaign -- whatever.

I just want as many characters on the roster as possible, well-made and well-balanced, and as many levels as possible, each immersive and full of detail.

I want smooth netcode, tons of customization (including a toggle for stage hazards, if possible), and loads of well-rendered trophies with detailed descriptions.

And tons of great music! :)

Just make Falco's be an arwing strafe. Boom done.

I want all 3 of them to be different.
But that is a good idea

I've always felt Falco's Final Smash should have him jumping into an Arwing, taking off into the sky (out of view), and then reappearing a few seconds later firing lasers (or dropping bombs) on the stage. Wolf's would be the same thing but using the Wolfen instead.

I thought wolfs should be some type of feral wolf power up, or have him call star wolf for back up.
Like wolfverines bezerker charge.

He howls at the sky and the stage shakes and all his stats gets boosted and goes into a state where cannot be moved when hit, but could still take damage.

I just went with what I said because we've played as Fox and not Falco lol.

It doesn't matter to me either way lol. Maybe Fox can have the Great Fox come in.

Oh yea, forgot about co-op, I guess that would be a reason someone would play it again, though not for very long.

It's about balance and fine-tuning and making as much content as possible. You can say that for almost any sequel and you would be wrong.

I didn't say Smash is all about multiplayer. I said the most important component of Smash is the multiplayer. They don't want people to not play the single-player or remove all single-player content. They just want to put so much focus into something that took up a lot of resources and that a majority of the people didn't care for (talking about SSE here, not any other single-player content, though I didn't care for adventure mode in Melee either).

But hey, you can say whatever you like to fit your argument. It's also a 3DS game by the way. And I am curious as to what these games you are talking about for the Wii U.

if Nintendo dropping unimportant stuff that bloats development times is half-assing their games, then I'm all in favor of them half-assing everything

they have a lot of problems on that front, but this isn't one of them

If the option is 50+ playable character with 10ish Psuedo clones or 40-45 characters mostly unique with 3-5 psuedo clones I'd take more playable every day.

Depends on the situation. If he runs out of time to add completely new characters but has just enough time to fluff the roster with pseudo clones which at least bring a few new moves to the table I wouldn't really mind that too much. Of course having those clones be alts and getting completely new characters would be ideal but time is the enemy.
Unless they do DLC which would solve all our problems

Clones takes MUCH more time than alternates, simply because things like "Dr Mario is like Mario but heavier ... but he has things to balance that"

Instead of just modeling Dr Mario and you press a buton to have it =P

They just want to put so much focus into something that took up a lot of resources and that a majority of the people didn't care for

Not according to Miiverse.

Are your really arguing that smash is not all about the multiplayer? Single players sole purpose in the previous games was unlocking which lasted 1-3 days max. You only played it so you could get all characters and then immediately get to the meat of the game which is the multiplayer.

All that said there is most likely going to be a good amount of single player content anyways(event matches, All star mode, adventure mode, Possible boss battle mode). I don't understand how simply taking out a failure of a mode like SSE is in any way a bad thing.

"The game won't sell if there's no Story Mode"

64 & Melee seem to say differently. As long as we get something among the lines of Melee's Adventure Mode, that's fine by me.

Wow. I should probably post some decent replies to Sakurai's posts on Miiverse just to counter all the terribleness.

Please do.

He sometimes responds calmly and asks for more patience before jumping to conclusions. He gets a lot of hate.
Wow really? He actually reads through it? Poor guy.

I'll post my appreciation right now.

EDIT: I can't comment on today's Miiverse post, I guess they disabled comments on that specific post.

Wow, really? I've never seen that. Any examples?

I can't copy and paste from Miiverse as those comments are lost.

But I've seen trolls like "SAKURAI STOP BEING STUPID TELL US DATE" to hateful comments like how his life shouldn't be existent because of showing a "bland" pic. (not gonna say what, some of it is offensive).

Seen a few insulting him for various reasons and the odd time he replies saying "Please be patient etc. etc.".

Try and get in on the comment section early and see these. Thankfully mods can ban people from it.

Post some appreciation guys, he doesn't deserve to see this shit.

Ugh, those people really sickening me.

I'm guessing they close it after a certain time or maybe even replies. Something to do from tomorrow.

That's terrible. I'll definitely make an effort to do my part.

A complete aside: we know what all of Villager’s special moves are, and we’ve seen all of his standard attacks with the exception of two of his aerials. All of the Animal Crossing tools and major items are accounted for, except… the fishing rod. Doesn’t it seem strange to anyone else that such a big part of Animal Crossing is unaccounted for?

I mentioned this a while back, and I still think it’s a good idea: he should incorporate fishing into his Final Smash.

The Villager would cast his rod towards the front of the screen, and a few seconds later he’d reel in the big fish from Balloon Fight! It would flop around the stage, sending anyone it touches flying. After five seconds or so, it would either disappear in a puff of smoke or jump off the stage back into the “water.”

The fish doesn’t have to be from Balloon Fight, but I think it would be a nice homage since the Villager already has a Balloon Fight recovery. Also, the fish would have to be pretty sizable in order to function as an effective Final Smash.

I just seen #5...................................I should stop now, but I must see how this train wreck goes.

EDIT: Here is the list:
5.
Gary F$#%ing Oak (yes, the one from the anime...)
4.
Bayonetta
3.
Captain N
2.
Simon Belmont
1.
Ridley

1 and 2 (though I don't really care for 2) are fine, but the rest lol.
I swear I've seen comments go over that.
They go a little over that looking at the Smash Community. Not sure about other communities.

These are my brothers.

SSE ROCKED. I played it again a few months ago and had just as much fun as I did the first time, really I think there were a lot of pitfalls, but I believe it had potential and it's a shame to see it go.

I wonder if it would've stayed had SS4 been limited to the Wii U.

I disagree. It's gotta be the bees

a swarm of bees chases him and he has to run around the stage while the bees damages everything it touches. The final smash ends when the villager gets caught by the bees. IT'S PERFECT I TELL YOU

I think it makes more sense for the bees to activate when an opponent accidentally strikes a tree that the Villager has planted.

Screwattack: Just a disclaimer we are trying to be quasi-realistic with our suggestions so mostly this means no stupid stuff.

So, anyway, Captain N should totally be in the new Smash.
