Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Hmm.... perhaps but I think that most consider him a mario character even if he is SQ in origin

I was 19 and my little sister who mostly played the 64 got Smash for her Birthday. She was big into Pokemon and loved Pikachu. So I decided to get her Smash for her Birthday. At first I was like what is this nonsense. Then I started playing. Then my friends came over and we all played. Been hooked ever since.

Hopefully if anything at least Sakurai will mention it with a special pic of the day on Miiverse. Doesn't even have to be a newcomer, just a pic that celebrates it in someway (maybe with the Party ball?)

Smash 64 brought me so many hours of fun. Melee's still one of my favorite games, but I'll never forget the hundreds of matches me and my friends played, still up to this very day in fact.

Love this series.

Hmm really? I don't know the specifics or anything, just know the basic seasons are different between the south and the north, though I guess the dates aren't exactly the same.

Basically, the classic "4 seasons" only happen in moderate areas that are north of the tropic of cancer (and even further), which happens to be most of North America and Europe. Heck, in the last few years there's barely been any 4 seasons, more like summer, winter, and a day or two in between where the temperature rapidly rises or drops like crazy. ;)

While the "swapped seasons" thing is true in terms of "warm season" and "cold season", there's areas in the world where there's less or even more seasons (e.g. the monsoon season).

How incredible to think that it's already been 15 years... Smash was one of those games that truly amazed me as I played it. The Pokemon hype was in full swing, and the ability to control Pikachu freely(!) was such a rush for 9/10-year-old me. All of these characters I had grown up with and loved since an early age were all coming together in the same frantic, fantastic universe--it was perfect!

All hail Sakurai! Long live Smash!
Not getting my hopes up for today's update, lol.

I remember when I got Smash 64.
It was 1999 and I had saved up money from my previous birthday and Christmas(they are 11 days apart) and I was at the video game section of Walmart and I didn't even know Smash existed and I see this is the case
Supersmashbox.jpg

I almost shit my little pants and I forked over the money I had saved right then and there without even knowing what the game was.

I didn't know anything about Smash when I got my copy either. All I knew was it had "Super ______ Bros." in the title so I thought it would be like a Mario game. I was completely wrong of course but I sure am glad I asked for the game that Christmas. Hardcore Smash fan ever since.

So I'm just playing through Smash 64's classic mode, and I forgot how fun it was fighting Metal Mario.

And I also realized how it's virtually impossible for me to listen to his music theme without hearing the footsteps.

Smash 4's Metal characters need to step up.

If it was any Dragon Quest hero it would probably be DQ5's.

but really if it was any DQ character it would be slime

also it's probably not gonna happen either way so

We all know who's coming tonight! WARIO THAT IS! WARIO CHA CHA CHA! WARIO CHA CHA! WHOOOOO!

Pretty sure one of the MC Hero characters would work. Probably from one of the NES games.

That's the DQ1 hero I posted above.

I mentioned it several pages ago, there was a Japan-only Card RPG released on the Wii which features all the heroes and villains from I-IX, and despite being a very plain, turn based system, the thing that really draws your attention are the crazy, over-the-top,very much like DBZ special attacks. Lots of material there Sakurai could use for something like a Final Smash.

Honestly, outside Sakurai's willingness for a 3rd party character and S-E to allow it, I'm not sure if he'd want to have ANOTHER sword user though, and Slime just seems.. plain.

in a naruto game, naruto dresses up in goku's outfit, so the next DBZ game they decided to make goku dress up as naruto in his most badass costume.

Yes, yes, I knew about it. Just never saw it until now.

I honestly don't even know if it has to do with my dismissal of anything related to Part II of Naruto. The costume just feels really off on him imo.

Don't get too hyped guys. It's just going to probably be Ridley. Booooring.

But stage hazards are suppose to be exciting. :/

off topic but: Agreed. that's his toad sage one right? My brother has been catching up on the series so I've only seen part of what he's been watching or have played in the past.

Btw the guy that he is talking about is Chaoszero (If I remember his name correctly.)

Other rumor

It's crazy how we went a few months without any rumors and then boom. Nothing has been mentioned of the story mode/customization too, iirc.

You know what's interesting? I never owned the OG Smash Bros until 2009. I always played my friends' copies when I grew up and never got it myself. I was happy as hell to get Melee with my GC for Christmas though.

So with that, Happy 15th Anniversary to one of my favorite series ever: SUPER SMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASH BROTHERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

The announcer just yelling that at the end made the intro. Melee's too.

And Braw-.....oh yeah...I forgot.
What the hell is Smash 4 gonna say?

Imagine if they're bringing back Smash 64 stages, and they show one with the update. Wouldn't that be great?

I kind of thought about this before as well. That would be rather nice.

Not expecting much tonight, but on the subject of age, I think I was around 5 or 6 when I discovered Smash Bros 64. Me and a good buddy of mine always loved to play against each other. I was Kirby, he was Fox, and we duked it out on the Great Fox. Never bought it until I saw it for sale at my close by Hollywood Video where I'd usually rent games from (oh the times of choosing a game purely based off of its cover art). Imagine our surprise when we discovered the existence of a sequel from TV commercials. Good times, they were.

Happy 15th, Smash. More fun times await.

Smash 64 was the first video game I saved up for and bought with my "own" money. :)
I was 11 or 12 at the time I think.

My first exposure with Super Smash Brothers was Melee, and I think I got it at a Best Buy when I was young. I really enjoyed going through the Adventure Mode, and my proudest moment was unlocking Mewtwo.

I actually have yet to play Super Smash Brothers 64

That is correct

Maybe another epic Super Smash Bros yell lol. I wish.

If it is like Brawl, nothing.
I'm personally rooting for "SUPER SMASH BROTHERS FOR!", though that's just me.

That'd be hilarious actually.

.....no way :O

I kinda wish he would just post an audio file of what the main theme of the games are. We have NO idea how any of the music is going to sound so far.

I still believe Smash 64 had the best sound effects when it came to fighting.

Those cartoony kicks and punches were just so fitting to the game. When you charged up your DK punch or used Falcon Punch, you could feel that hit and it was even more satisfying seeing them fly across the screen.

Sector Z's still the best stage in the series

I miss Sector Z :(

also totally agree on 64's SFX, I love that and Melee's

Brawl's doesn't feel so satisfying, kind of too soft honestly

If we're talking Smash memories, here's mine I guess.

Back when I got my GameCube in 2004, me and my family were out at Target and I was in the games section looking for new games. I never played much attention to video games or whatever... most of my PS1 and 2 library were licensed Disney and Nickelodeon games (although I did play Mario at my aunt and uncles house). Looking at the games on sale, one stood out: a game that I had heard some kids talk about in school earlier that day, Super Smash Bros Melee. I asked my dad if he'd get it for me, and surprisingly he said yes, no question. I also remember my older sister looking at the game on the way home saying "mom, you got him a T rated game!!" I thought I was so cool :p

Got home to put the disc in and I was blown away. I knew none of these characters, aside from Mario and Pikachu. But that didn't stop my enjoyment a bit - I put endless hours into that game, by myself, with my sisters, with my friends, so many hours spent with that game. It was such a neverending game of joy, I never ever got tired of playing it even after years had passed. It introduced me to all these characters that I never heard of, it got me wanting to play the games they came from (it got me into the Earthbound/Mother series - I am eternally grateful!). Basically, Melee is the game that got me into video games.

My life would be radically different if I never had the Smash Bros series, I feel confident in saying that. Happy 15th birthday, and here's to a long and prosperous future. Get better soon Nintendo ;(

A friend of mine told me they'll reveal Little Mac tonight and not to expect character cuts.

Keep in mind he doesn't work in the game industry and doesn't know anybody remotely connected to Smash's development, but it's still something he told me.

I think I was 8 when SSB64 came out? May have been younger, I forget when it came out in the US.
