Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition PC

Believe it when I see it, Capcom. Bio4's PC port is terribad and you'll have to prove to me you aren't doing a quickie port job to Steam to try to get some cash.

you just need to watch the trailer to know this isn't anything like as bad as the original PC version.

and LOL at people complaining about RE4 to for $20.

This seems like a ripoff considering its price and a wasted opportunity. Honestly, for some reason the game in the trailer looked way worse than I remember when I first played it on GC on a CRT TV. I would hope that the subtitle "Ultimate HD" would mean an HD remake like Square Enix did for FFX/X-2 and Kingdom Hearts. :/ Then I would easily spend even 40€ but now I'll wait for the next Steam sale...
I think it looks great in motion in the trailer. It's just in stills where the textures I remembered being so crisp now come off as a bit blurry, despite the alleged upgrade. But then again, quite a few PC games (and games in general) look great in motion but merely OK in stills. I'll still be F12-ing the heck out of this game!

Finally a HD port (apparently) done with the care the game deserves.
I hope this really is the definitive version so I can stop messing around with emulators and mods.

Agreed. I just pretend the old PC port never existed - there was no way to get it up to full Gamecube parity, even with mods. Now we're getting a great, full featured PC port running at 60fps, a new feature RE4 has never been released with.

Seriously, despite all the ports of the game so far, it's actually definitive now. It's fair to say it's not worth $20 to you but come on.

Has there ever been an instance of two versions of the same game on Steam (or one being replaced by the previous one)?

DMC3 is already on Steam, even if it's a shitty version. Would that cause issues for a proper release?

Capcom can just delete the Shitty may Cry 3 entry from Steam.

Just like they did with RE4.

You are expecting way too much of an investment on Capcom's part.

This is perfectly fine the way it is for the price.

Lost Planet comes to mind.

Sure. Deus Ex: Human Revolution / Deus Ex: Human Revolution: The Director's Cut for example.

First time on Steam in HD.

We have been playing the prior RE4 port and emulating the Wii version for a long time now. Unless they have completely forgotten about the original PC version, which is understandable.

It's happened many times with GotY style re-releases. I believe UFO: Afterlight currently has two different versions in Steam right now too.

Looks good, and $20 honestly seems like a fair price. I never beat the game on Professional before, and mouse/keyboard control should be ace.

What this really needs though, is Wiimote/Nunchuck support. The Wii version's controls are among the all-time best for any third-person shooter. I'm sure Keyboard/mouse will be great - but goddamn. HD visuals with that elder-god-tier handling.

Will buy, but I hope they properly support all the shaders and lighting from the GameCube version. I know even the PS3/360 versions didn't have the bump mapping that appeared on some enemies and bosses. Still, 60fps, 1080p+, and proper texture filtering will be huge.

Wow didn't expect that and I'll probably end up buying RE4 because I never played it before (what a shame).

play through it the first time using a pad, whatever other options are at your disposal. replay it however you like, but the first time should be a pad, trust me!

if the controls are like RE5's option for having a moveable on screen cursor, if you pick up a Razer Hydra you will be able to play with WiiMote style controls. I replayed 5 on PC that way with my Hydra last year, and it was a blast. My fingers are naturally crossed that the same will be possible here.

I have RE4 on GameCube and Wii, but I never bought it for my PS3, so this will be my first HD copy of the game. Very nice. :)

I hope they give you the option to customize the aiming like RE6 did. If memory serves you could change the color of the laser sight and add a normal aiming crosshair

Well, they haven't done too much work on the achievements yet.

Sixty frames PER second

Damn it...guess i'm buying this a 4th time.

It's going to PLAY better. That's really all anyone should need to know about 60 fps. My personal favorite game will PLAY better than ever before at 60 fps. Yep. That's worth $20 (and yes, I've already pre-ordered).

Doesn't look different from RE4 PC using mods and SweetFX
Time to upload dolphin shots with custom textures and see for ourselfs.

If they haven't reworked the lighting engine to more moder stnadards, then Wii version on dolphin still the best due to wii remote controls.

Edit: That's until someone manages to make a competent glove pie script for the PC version. Wii remote + 60 fps can't be topped. XD

This would be a double-dip for me, and those are good enough for me.

How many times have you bought it, and what would make you buy it again, if not those reasons?

OG Gamecube
PS2 (more content than the OG)
X360 (The best of those two. The extra content of the latest release + graphical update)

More content perhaps? Just a graphical update is not enough, specially priced @ $20.00

You can use GlovePIE and a Wiimote+ Nunchuk to play RE5 just like RE4: Wii Edition. Someone even actually made proper icons at some point.

the achievements for the 360 HD release was pitiful from what I recall. There were only about 10-15 and most of them were story-related. Hopefully they put more work into them here.

About damn time, gonna get dis!

Hopefully this is a sign for RE5 to be patched out of GFWL.

Already have the GCN version, will no doubt double dip for this!

Achievements 1-12 are probably ripped straight from the HD Console release.

Will finish this for the 1002320921838128912331th time

Kind of sad that it's this though - I expected a crazy good mod when reading that title

This might have been answered previously but is this version using GameCube assets or PS2 assets like the original PC release did?

I give this a shot when it comes out.

I tried playing it back when it first came to PC. It was OK, but I liked the ambiance of RE 1&2 too much. 4 just felt like a different game. Not as disconnected as 5 and beyond, but still not the same magic that 1&2 had.

nice to know. when 5 first came out I tried to write my own Glove PIE script, but the cursor would only work in menus for some reason. chances are good that we'll see wiimote support again then!

Okay. Okay. This better turn out perfect. I haven't played RE4 yet, only dabbled a bit, maybe a hour or two in.
RE4's strongest quality is its perfect pacing. One scenario after another, and then another, and another. Each the perfect length, and each a great showcase of the stop-and-pop/crowd control mechanics. It also has a strong sense of a "journey," so that by the end you really feel you survived a harrowing adventure, one where you traveled miles of countryside and castle and island. It's all so cohesive. And the creature design is top-notch. Some truly creative and memorable monsters, and a perfect Gothic backdrop against which to face them. :)
