Already bought holy shit
This is also another reason I'm so excited, make the competition understand what's required for super cash on Steam. Also this is how you do ports SQUARE. Watch and learn.
I hope they put a little more effort into them, I want to collect some tough ones for my profile.

Thoughts on this?

it would make no sense.
RE4 hasn't had new game content since the PS2 version, and it's since been ported four times now: shitty PC port -> Wii -> 360/PS3 -> and now Steam. Expecting new content for such an old game is kind of a stretch.OG Gamecube
PS2 (more content than the OG)
X360 (The best of those two. The extra content of the latest release + graphical update)
More content perhaps? Just a graphical update is not enough, specially priced @ $20.00
it would make no sense. Ubisoft handled that port. I doubt Capcom have access to the source code for it. If anything it is based on the PS3/360 code. Nothing else would make sense.
This person is probably unaware of the missing bump mapping in the PS3 360 versions.
How possibly could we know?
PS360 assetsIt's very likely based on the PS360 versions with further texture updates.
Yeah, I'm curious about this, too. The GCN/Wii versions had some effects, etc, which were missing from the PC, PS2 and PS3/360 versions.Better be based on the GC/Wii version. Why would they continue to ignore the best looking/playing version of the game?
Ubisoft did not handle the port. Their role was to distribute the game in EU/US. Capcom chose Sourcenext to do the port, same for DMC3 and Onimusha 3.
But yes, I agree, this person (which I indeed remember from the original RE4 modding community) probably does not know about the missing effects of the PS360 versions.
After the screenshot comparisons earlier, it seems clear to me that this is based on the PS360 versions (with a few upgrades). Also makes the most technical sense in terms of porting.
Are the comparisons in this thread Durante?
I missed the first 500 posts or so.

Yes. With (almost?) all the versions. All indications point toward it basically being the 360 version with double the FPS and some higher res textures (on characters at least). Are the comparisons in this thread Durante?

First time on Steam in HD.
We have been playing the prior RE4 port and emulating the Wii version for a long time now. Unless they have completely forgotten about the original PC version, which is understandable.
Nope. 30FPS/720p.So the console versions weren't 60fps/1080p?
Missing effects? So, Wii version through Dolphin + texture mods is still the definitive one? Are audio glitches fixed on recent Dolphin updates?
60fps cap or a possible 120?
Also, why do people speak of bump mapping on the GC. IT did not have the capability to even do that from what I understand.. rather just a form of specularity on the models.
So I'm guessing the Wii version had motion blur? Pardon my ignorance, I don't know the differences between the versions.
In the dolphin picture Leon looks like a man of action, in the PS3/Steam version he looks like a teenage heart-throb staring into the distance.
"Oh hey, that must mean they finally based it off the GameCube version, right?"
*click*
Goddamnit, Capcom.
if the controls are like RE5's option for having a moveable on screen cursor, if you pick up a Razer Hydra you will be able to play with WiiMote style controls. I replayed 5 on PC that way with my Hydra last year, and it was a blast. My fingers are naturally crossed that the same will be possible here.

All signs point to it being based on the GC version. Just as it was for PS3/360. Why is the misinformation about these ports so persistent?

I don't know what else is missing.. In the screenshots that's a DoF effect that seems to be missing. But as you can see it didn't look good anyway.

I noticed that sweater texture, far higher resolution than that in the PS3/360 and Wii version.

Texel density on the models and ground sure likes like the sub-HD PS2 version to me. Fail to see the Ultimate part?
PS3 / 360 versions was based on the GC version, but not every effect made it across and some were cut. This PC version is based on the 360/PS3 version, so it too is missing those effects currently.
It's an important distinction.

Please, if you have concrete information (such as screenshots) that pertains to the quality of the port that overrides what other posters have said already, please share it.
What are these effects? If it's just a little bit of reflective attributes and occasional bump mapping, then should we care? Are these effects widespread or limited to a few smaller use cases?
Also, watch this have GFWL.
