Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I like how these four series have thrown out some of the very best games within their respective series in the years between Brawl and this game.

I don't hate them really , I am just not very fond of them. I would choose to be playing a New F-zero over all of them because its like my preference.Nintendo hasn't been too kind to anything that isn't "core".That only destroys their chance of coming back in the future with any type of success.

Well ROB was in MKDS & then he was SSBB. that's gotta count for something.
Oddly enough, Sakurai actually said he didn't know R.O.B. was in Mario Kart DS and that the decision to include him in Brawl was made completely independently.

Also, while I agree with the sentiment of K. Rool being a sub-par character choice, there's a few things to say in his defense.

First, he's still the only character I would consider a general main baddie of the series. K. Rool was the main villain of the first 4 games of the main series (DKC1-3 and DK64), and he's been making appearances as both villain and playable character in some other games, like Barrel Blast and Jungle Climber.

The only other major antagonist is Tiki Tong, and he doesn't seem very fit to be a playable character - after all, he's basically like Andross, a floating head with floating hands, and just about the same size difference to DK as Andross has to the Arwings (so even bigger than Ridley comparatively!).

Even though K. Rool's last appearance was in the Mario Baseball game 6 years ago, he still is relevant to the DK series simply due to his legacy. Smash isn't to celebrate only recent characters, after all, but the entire history of Nintendo. As such, the relevancy of a character today is absolutely unimportant. After all, we got the Ice Climbers and Pit, right? K. Rool is the only sensible Donkey Kong villain to be introduced into Smash (at least as of now).

The only DK characters I can see getting in before K. Rool are Dixie and Cranky (due to his new status as playable).

I have a question for anyone interested: Do you use only one or a handful of characters in Smash as opposed to most/all of the roster? If so, why?

For me personally, I use everyone because the basics are very similar from character to character. It also makes the game last longer and IMO makes you more effective as a player.
I usually play with a handful of characters because for me it depends on how the characters feel in battle. For example playing characters like Peach, Falcon, Mario, Ganondorf, Marth just feels fun and great but I can't stand Luigi, ROB, or Olimar. They just don't click with me, even in Project M where I like using a good amount of the roster.

hey guys, nobody cares about fucking Donkey Kong, let's discuss Fire Emblem characters

:P

OK.

I have decided I can't pick a realistic selection of who I want to see in smash and have switched to dreaming of Fire Emblem Awakening Tournament or some such thin, which in my dreams is a soul calibur ripoff with a cast of entirely fire emblem characters, thus eliminating the need to choose.

I try every character a bit - run them through arcade mode etc., at least once. See how they play, how they feel. That's why I enjoy Peach in Melee but not in Brawl, for instance.

I end up mostly using the characters I just like the gameplay of, even though there are characters I play out of loyalty to the character (e.g. Samus, who also has the upside that I like how she plays in all 3 games).

However, I occasionally want to play a character I'm not enjoying as much, so I do! Which oftentimes is beneficial because I end up learning something about the character, like their options and such.

stop tier whoring

but wait I thought most of us here played through classic/all-star with every character at least once if only to pick up all the trophies

idk, dixie can be sexy at times..

...and you think Mario, DK and Kirby have all gone to shit? You've got some crazy fringe opinions.

None of those series (for the few that are still alive that you've listed) have many if any iconic characters and are more or less lying in stasis. It's a much different situation, since you're going to find a lot fewer people capable of recognizing Ray Mk II than King Dedede.

Plus we've only gotten one confirmed newcomer for any of those series. You're six years late to be upset about Dedede and Diddy.

I see Smash as celebrating Nintendo as a whole , not being made up of more and more so called 'core' characters. Many people didn't know of Game and watch , Ice Climbers and even fire emblem series itself before melee but I pretty much knew about them all prior to game.Just being in smash is chance to be popular and recognized for many.

I just play the characters that I like the most. Not just if I like them outside of smash, but if I like how they play as well. I'll mix it up every once in a while.

I think it's time for Donkey Kong Jr. to make his come back. Where has he been this whole time?

At the very least having DK Jr's onesie as an alternate skin for DK would be pretty fun.

And of the four newcomers announced, three of them are from newly represented series from Nintendo's history. G&W and Ice Climbers already represent their respective eras, and Captain Falcon and Samus also fill the niches that the series you suggested would.

I just entered miiverse, and it said something about a Rayman Legends stage in Smash. Is this true? If so, why havent I seen it mentioned anywhere??

No, people just think that Adventure Mode (at least, we're assuming) shot from Monday looks kinda like a Rayman stage. It's probably not one.

Word of caution: take anything you see on Miiverse with the tiniest grain of salt.

In terms of Smash news if it is on any other page on Miiverse than this one then you can safely ignore it.

Well, it was said by an Miyamoto-Mii that I thought was official, but guess not :(

Edit: just rechecked, no checkmark on the picture. My hype for nothing.

Hiro "Hip" Tanaka is an AT.
Chettlar is easily Mr. Resetti.

LMFAO! Nice responses, but Camjo-Z fuckin killeddddd me though hahahah

Isn't there a strict no-creepiness rule in this thread?

'Twas only responding to the comment about fucking DK characters. Figured I might throw in my fetish for DiXie.

I'm totally joking btw.
..but she does have a nice hairy ass.

Reading about the (debunked) rumor of Adam from Other M being playable, I think I like the idea of Samus's ship being playable. Obviously, it's a bit wonky in that it would have to be controlled by an AI, but it would certainly be unique and strange and a curveball.

And really, besides (the too big) Ridley, and (the way too big) Kraid (and the stupid characters from Other M), who else from Metroid could be a playable character? Mother Brain? I don't think that would work. Maybe the baby Metroid from Super? Just as strange as Samus's ship with the same problem (flight), but with less actual moves.

Metroid just has problems when it comes to a second playable character that other franchises don't. And no, Dark Samus would be a clone and therefore terrible.

You know, thinking about it, they could just make a Metroid a character. I've seen in mentioned every once in a while, and didn't think much of it, but it could work. It would certainly be unique.

Still the best option is Ridley.

Edit: Actually, a Chozo statue could be really badass.

I'm actually a little surprised though. Yesterday was probably one of the best times to reveal Wario. Unless he has a secret game coming out later this year or something and Sakurai's just waiting for that instead.

There's also Mario Kart, if Wario's going to be tied to a game.

You must have:
a) a poor imagination
b) never played Prime 2 and Prime 3.

They can make Dark Samus feel completely different from Samus.

I know that; I just know that she/he will be perceived as a clone due to, you know, "Dark" Samus. And just because they can make Dark Samus completely different doesn't mean they would.

Also, SAX would be a fun addition, especially if it transforms into the monster version as a final smash instead of Zero Suit. But similar to Dark Samus, it would be viewed as a clone even if it played differently.

See: Lucario.

It wouldn't have to be a clone of course, but I see it being a lot like Wolf/Fox. If it ended up like that it wouldn't be terrible, but kind of bland in my opinion.

Either way, Dark Samus just doesn't have the same history as Ridley.

He's a completely different style from Samus, and has been there from the very beginning. I think that warrants a spot.
