Nintendo Downloads - January 2014

I understand people want to play Virtual Console games on the Wii U. I do too. However, to act like the entire library doesn't exist on the Wii U is complete bunk. You can transfer all your stuff from Wii to Wii U. You can then also play them, even on the Gamepad, with a Wii Remote and/or classic controller after you've done that.

If a game you want is available on Wii, you can purchase it, play it and then pay a buck to move it to the Wii U when it's available if you want to. Given that these games are mostly not available on ANY platform save the original one they shipped on (legally), that's really not worth bitching about IMO.

But you know, everyone hates Nintendo right now and wants them to go under. It's so fucking tiresome. How about just enjoying your games instead of bitching about ones you don't have yet?

Love you so much right now.

I want to lay down and play with the GamePad screen. I don't think there's a comfortable position for that while holding anything else.

That's a bit of a generalization there. I mean yeah there's so many people wanting Nintendo to go third party and whatnot (I find them just as tiresome too), but that doesn't mean everyone criticizing Nintendo's VC are the same people.

I never purchased NES, SNES, Mega Drive etc games on Wii because, well, 50hz. For me, waiting for a U version is worth it because they're either 60hz or enhanced 50hz.

Most game shops are selling the stand used for charging the Gamepad for like $6 right now. Get one of those and put it next to the bed or wherever you're lying down to play. Bingo.

Disagree. I think there are both paid and non-paid people on this forum and across the net right now who are doing everything they can to make Nintendo look bad. I'm waiting for someone to break the NDA on Microsoft or Sony paying folks to bad mouth Nintendo and all their products.

First of all, you can't use your official Wii U controllers to play this game, and the Wii U does not come with a Wiimote in the first place. I have to go out and buy another controller AND a pro controller for Wii just to play these which to me is still an extra cost at the end of the day.

If we're suppose to be like all "just play it on the Wii VC" then why even buy a Wii U in the first place? I want to play with my new controllers and with the more hardware Wii U has. I also don't like having to go into another OS just to play these games. It becomes such a nuisance overtime to keep having to go into "Wii Mode" or "Wii U Mode" back and forth with all that time spent I could be playing a game.

I can't imagine having to buy a PS2 controller to play Playstation Classics on PS3.

I don't feel that is very ideal. Not comfortable enough for me...

Don't get me wrong, I know there's plenty of people on GAF asking for Nintendo's head. What I'm trying to say is that there's a fair amount of people who criticizes the VC and doesn't want Nintendo to go under in this thread. I just feel you're being a bit too defensive over this.

Honestly, all I'm asking for is to have a much better release schedule on the system. The releases feel too far few and between. :\

Yeah I pretty much agree with all of this too. It feels far too cumbersome to do all of this just to play a VC game.

Based primarily on the weirdness of the delay on SMB3 (and LTTP), plus the fact that they've done similar things in the past, I'm guessing they're probably being held back for some kind of "event" where that'll get announced in a Nintendo Direct or something. So I've pretty much given up hope for them popping up on a random week at this point without advance notice.

But if you want to play PS3 games on PS4, you need a PS3. Xbox 360 games on Xbox One? You need a different console and all required hardware.

Don't even start talking about streaming PS3 games on PS4. It's not available yet and you have no idea how it will work. It's an idea right now. Nothing more.

On the Wii U, you can play all the Virtual Console games available on the Wii. Wii Remotes are used in many games on Wii U. If you don't buy one, you can't really play multiplayer in many games or are hamstrung by your lack of peripheral. That's your choice.

The Wii Remote is all you need for NES, TG-16, Neo Geo, Commodore 64, Arcade and most Genesis games available on Wii. A classic controller is only necessary for SNES and N64.

1) If you have Wii VC games transfered over, you already had a Wii and Wii controllers. If you sold them, that was your choice.

2) To play Wii U games

3) You don't have to buy a Wii controller to play Wii U VC games so I fail to see the point. They're the only company to keep legacy support with their complete previous system library by way of a separate mode so at some point the complaining becomes a little silly.

I'll stop here because ... #woopwoop... right?

that doesnt make it okay

What if the person doesn't care about multiplayer? Plus, the major advantage of Wii U VC is the ability to play all of the VC games on one controller (and its being streamed to the screen too!)

3) You don't have to buy a Wii controller to play Wii U VC games so I fail to see the point.
No shit. Why do you think we want them on the Wii U VC in the first fucking place?

I... don't see a correlation between that and complaining about VC? All I'd like is to see a decent amount of Virtual Console games to be released on a consistent basis in a timely manner. I could care less about Nintendo's current/future position in the market. I'd like to think many have the share the same sentiment.

Not to say there aren't people that feel strongly about Nintendo and their position right now, but equating (for the most part) valid complaints about VC to that just seems a little... I dunno, overly defensive.

that doesnt make it okay
This is insane. You can play all your Virtual Console games on the Wii U. You lost NOTHING in the purchase of your new console. Zero. Zilch. Nada. NOTHING! It sure as hell is OK. Your purchases have moved to your new system.

The competition doesn't offer that.

Hey, how 'bout this... all the whiners win and Nintendo removes the Gamepad from the Wii U. Suddenly it's a console with no second screen. Now you have no extra feature to be able to play those games off-TV. Would the bitching stop then? NO! Because god forbid you have to press a button to go into the Wii menu to play them!!

wow

dat meltdown

and you like missed my point about the whole situation to begin with. good job.

You can't get into Wii mode without a Wiimote, though.

fair point actually

Long makes some good points. But let's not ignore that VC on U does have a value, otherwise we wouldn't be paying for the upgrades and requesting the games were released at a faster rate.

Oh jeez.

Although the bolded only applies in Europe but you're still right due to save stating and button mapping.

What? He came across as overly defensive. I have no problems that he's okay with the VC as is. I just don't get why he thinks the "whiners" would win by losing the GamePad... because isn't the GamePad on VC exactly what we want in the first place? All I'm asking for is Nintendo do a better job with releasing their games. It's just really lame we get only 1 game per week. The Wii started off fine with 3 games per week and it was across several systems as oppose to two (NES and SNES)! I would love to play more games with full GamePad support and newer features.

I realize that we can just play Wii mode to get a lot of these. That doesn't stop me from wanting games not on the Wii VC though. There's no excuse not to release a game like Mother since it was already slated for release twenty years ago in NA. It has to be translated already, I imagine. So fucking release it Nintendo. How about translating other games? How about the GBA version of Yoshi's Island, bypassing the Super FX Chip? Is that hard at all?

In a perfect world, Nintendo hasn't released SMB3 because they're busy getting the GBA version ready for release equipped with every e-reader level in existence. That can't be hard to do and I know a lot of Nintendo fans would love it. We're not talking about 3rd party games here, just games within the control of Nintendo.

This has to be the same reason as A Link to the Past, right?

Right?

Continuing with the depressing tone.

I still laugh at them announcing GBA games for Wii U VC when everyone was expecting 3DS.... then they (seemingly) don't even bother doing that either lol.

You so weird Nintendo! :/

I'll stop here because ... #woopwoop... right?

1. Who said I ever owned a Wii in the first place? Why would someone need to own the previous console for the latest console? The Wii U isn't a Game Pad for the Wii it is it's own system. The only choice here is that I have to go out and purchase a Wii remote and a classic controller for a completely different system to access these games or even the Wii Menu itself when the Wii U has backwards compatibility yet doesn't allow you to use controllers for the system it's on. The Xbox 360 allowed you to use the 360 controller for Xbox games, the PS3 allowed you to use the PS3 controller for PS1 and PS2 games, the DS allowed you to use the controller for GBA games, and the 3DS allows you to use the Circle Pad for DS games. Only the Wii U is like this as a backwards compatible console, it doesn't support any Wii U controllers for Wii content.

2. Okay. So if it's to play Wii U games, why was his post saying to use the Wii mode instead of the Wii U mode? That is the issue.

3. You haven't been paying attention to the conversation if you don't see the point. He's the one that said go into the Wii mode and don't complain about it, he's saying what everyone wants is in the Wii mode when it clearly isn't the case.

So would the GBA port of Yoshi's Island get put on the Wii U's VC? It's already been proven that the 3DS can handle it so the whole Super FX Chip thing really wouldn't matter, right?

So would the GBA port of Yoshi's Island get put on the Wii U's VC?

At this point, considering the pathetically slow VC release schedule and the total lack of GBA games thus far it's unlikely the Wii U will last long enough to see such a release. Maybe on their next console.

The Super FX is a emulation/licensing(?) thing not a power thing and the GBA version is a port which is unrelated. But yeah we'll probably get that version at least.

I just want to restate how much of an improvement Ganbare Goemon 2 is over the first game to anyone who has a Japanese 3DS. I never cared for the first Famicom game, but 2 is ridiculously fun and brings the series much closer to the Super Famicom games. It's still mostly played in the 3/4 view, but it has the goofiness and the levels are large, varied, and fun. The story is utterly insane, perhaps even moreso than the average Goemon game.

That said, the best part is the introduction of Ebisumaru and 2 player gameplay, so you will sadly be missing out on that.

Nintendo 3DS | Virtual Console

I would totally buy Mighty Final Fight just to see what it was like, especially considering it was never on the Wii VC.

wait wait

when did japan started getting systems that arent Famicom and Super Famicom?

oh man i hope this is a sign of us finally getting more systems soon

Penguin Adventure: Yume Tairiku Adventure (Konami | MSX | ¥800)
Penguine Adventure was one of my favourites on the MSX way back in the day, but the price point for these seems a bit high for what they are. That said, if they put Maze of Galious in there...

Nobody ever did respond last time but for anyone with a Japanese Wii U are there upgrade fees for TG16 and MSX or is it rebuy only? Website doesn't say.

Oo, Wario's Woods for Japan. I sure hope this means European release is close. Been waiting to upgrade it from Wii menu. May not be the best puzzle game but I enjoy it.

I just want shop discounts. The fact that launch games which were ports of even older games are still $60 is ridiculous. Something like Darksiders 2 or Batman: Arkham City being $60 dollars is prohibitive. If those games were $20 or so for the eshop version Nintendo and 3rd party publishers would have a lot more of my dollars in their bank accounts. I know I've heard that Nintendo lets 3rd parties set their prices but I don't buy it. Why are they so willing to do sales on other platforms but do not want to do them on the platform of the of the platform holder who has a reputation for keeping their titles at full price for a long time. Too much of a coincidence for me. Nintendo definitely has some say in keeping the prices up.

I still don't get why it's not the SNES version of Wario's Woods. Heck, I had that one growing up & didn't even know of the NES version until years later.

"Everybody hates on Nintendo for not releasing the VC games, but you can simply download them on a separately purchased last gen console wuth a still incomplete library and just pay extra to transfer it to Wii U! People just like to hate, yo."

Lol, no.
