Kingdom Come - Realistic open-world Medieval RPG [Kickstarter]

Unless I missed something; what's stopping the people who is really funding the game to stop funding them even if the kickstarter is successful? I'm really tempted to donate but I don't know.

In the video the creative director says they made a deal with the investor. I'm going to say they have enough experience to know that a verbal agreement means nothing and had a contract written up that outlined the conditions for continued funding.

Mount & Blade: Warband is probably the closest you'll get to what they're going for, especially with some of the mods out there. Chivalry and War of the Roses are just medieval arena fighting games.

Looks really neat, these sorts of games are getting more popular. I've never played one though. Which one should I try out... ?

Chivalry
Mount & Blade Series (Banner Lord TBA)
War of the Roses/(War of the Vikings TBA)
any others?

Chivalry, so much fun. Just for the dismemberment alone.

I personally recommend Chivalry. As much as I like Mount and Blade, PV&K, I am not a fan of the winding up the strike mechanic of other games. It always telegraph your attack to the enemy. Not to mention holding a sword over your head and running around is funky. Chivalry doesn't have the winding for full power mechanic and it makes the combat very smooth and fast. It may seem simple at first, but it have a lot of depth to it. For example, every strike have several phases, winding up, release, and recovery. You can get interrupted during your wind up phase. Of course there are deeper elements that I can't talk about in a single concise post. My favorite part of the "depth" is mastery of upper body control as you can lower your body beyond simple crouching. IE, the ducking by looking down. It is not my first line of defense, but the very last. Mastery of ducking essentially give me 4 layers of defense. I found it amazingly satisfying to duck below enemy attacks like in the movies. No other melee game can I do that.

Really outdated tutorial, but still relevant.

FAQ

Do you plan to support Occulust Rift?

Cryengine supports Occulus Rift by default, so general answer is: yes. We plan to support this awesome hardware gadget.

The game looks really cool, but I am still waiting for 2 other Kickstarters that I backed to come out (WL2 and Project Eternity). I vowed not to give out any more money until at least WL2 delivers. I'm sure they'll hit their goal (at least I hope they do). This game is definitely on my radar. I've wanted a realistic medieval RPG for a long time now.

Rock Paper Shotgun have impressions on a demo session:

Also, backed.
. One quest, apparently, will see us investigating the tragic murder of a young girl, and it’ll be able to resolve in all sorts of ways. Most intriguingly, we’ll be able to accuse and convict people without solving the entire mystery. Partial evidence and false accusations might even get you a reward, because how can anybody really know you’re just pulling it from beneath the plates covering your hindquarters?

Oh, right: because after a brief period of peace, the murders will start right back up again. Great job, detective. The end result? You’ll lose reputation and karma with both individuals and whichever city you’re in. But who knows? Maybe you don’t care. Maybe you just need some quick cash

They've already made a better crime game than La Norie. I wish I had more money to throw right now.

We should ask them to release some uncompressed media (screenshots and videos).

I want to see this stuff at a higher fidelity!

edit:

This is not the only openworld Cryengine Kickstarter to launch today.

Environments looks nice, but the whole kickstarter description and video is terrible.
Like why the hell they are showing a person moving in default Forest SDK levels or even having Forest level to run in background?

Just tested it. It is making about £1000 every 5 minutes.

Bot tooo bad.

I was also worried at the start, the game technically is not "visceral, cinematic, or epic." So... joe schmoe may not care too much.

edit: even more than £1000 every 5 minutes. Damn.

Backing the hell out of this, it's the game I wanted Dark Messiah to be. I do hope we get some visceral (I know, but it really is the best word to use) combat. I'd love to see broken arms from maces/hammers, swords designed to crush instead of pierce. Man this can't come soon enough.

Oh and they confirmed that it will be moddable in Kickstarter comments:

Creator Warhorse Studios about 1 hour ago

@Ben Cranna: Yes, definitely. We plan to release tools we used to develop the game. They are going to be PC only though.

They need PayPal support asap.

The sheer amount of modding potential coming out of kickstarter projects is remarkable.

To be fair, with CryEngine it should be easy enough, by just not locking files in compilation process.
But they are also developing some additional tools for quest management, so its bigger effort from them.

On top of that, we are developing our own proprietary RPG-MAKING TOOLS for easy development of this and any future content, including custom support for game design, animations, branching dialogue, clothing definitions, et al. We plan to release these tools to the modding community in the future.

I believe that the original premise for this game was that it would take place during the Thirty Years War (being that the developers are in Bohemia, one of the major battlegrounds of the conflict, that would make sense), but they probably thought better of it due to religious nature the Catholic/Protestant conflict. They can probably fictionalize the conflict but still retain the "spirit" of the historical events.

I would have definitely backed them, however, given it's only for the PC version (yes, I have seen the video and read that they want to put it on consoles but their bid to raise capital is not for consoles) I can't. It would be nice to if one day kickstarter projects would involve development for consoles directly.

Gamersyde delivered yet again. Unfortunately videos are in 25fps ;\

You still cant publish freely on consoles, so its hardware providers issue, not developers issue.

I'm very glad to see the kickstarter doing so after Warhorse having so much trouble raising a publisher for the game after so long time and so much effort. I really recommend checking their whole blog about the project.

That's a pretty tall order as console development involves buy in from the console companies which is a big hurdle that does not exist at all on PC.

The Thirty Years' War was 1618–1648.

This game will be circa the 14th century.

Where does it say that? All I saw was the release date being dependent on the certification process.

Is there anyway I can back this for a PS4 version of the game? Digital or otherwise.

From their FAQ:

"In our world, we can offer you PC version in all tiers. From the “Baron” tier above, you will be able to choose our game on any platform you wish from those mentioned above (i.e. Windows PC / Mac / Linux / Xbox One / PS4), with the proviso that on consoles the game must be approved by the platform holders first. In case we are not able to finish or release the game on the platform you chose for any reason, you will be able to choose again (from available platforms) or demand your money back."
