Kingdom Come - Realistic open-world Medieval RPG [Kickstarter]

9 square km of land is actually relatively small when you compare it to DayZ

They're well-aware of the existence of much larger games and have a really good blog post up about the advantages and tradeoffs thereof.

This looks incredible. I will be helping out, even though my interest is not neccessarily in these types of themes, and work that has gone in to it thus far is incredible. And I love the jab at the Mobile games being the "money maker". They get extra, because of that.

My phone is for text, calls, and email. Nothing else.

This looks and sounds amazing. The kickstarter video is great and makes me want to fund. But I will still stand by my policy of not funding anything on kickstarter. I am sure that will make some angry lol.

It will probably make you angry when you have to pay %40 plus for it like its happening to me for not backing Pillars of Eternity.

The little I read of that blog post was very promising. It sounds like these guys have a good understanding of open world games. I'll probably end up backing the kickstarter.

I've never wanted to back anything on Kickstarter or IGG before, but is probably going to be the first.

Only problem is deciding on what tier..

Is shipping free to US on everything? It says it on some tiers but not others

I think it makes sense to fund acts primarily one at a time: focus most of the money on getting that out of the door and acquire extra funding for the next acts or heck even hopefully a profit in the end.

I'm very happy to see that this will be funded by the way :) I'm always so nervous when things start out.

“But we do want to have healing to individual parts. If you get hit in the hand, you’ll have to apply bandages there. Or if you get a leg injury, you’ll probably be worse in combat. You’ll be slower and stuff. If your head is injured, you’ll have blurry vision. Those kinds of things.”

Yo, that sounds like the amazing Call of Cthulhu health system! And the making potions bit reminds me of Miasmata.

They make good points and I do not disagree. I've just been playing a great deal of DayZ lately and its something I noticed.

DayZ is a multi-player survival sandbox, this is a single player RPG. The audience requirements are quite distinct.

Trekking through miles of woodland ever conscious of the threat of zombies or other players looking for supplies for hours on end can be a thrilling thing. Trekking through miles of woodland in order to locate an NPC whom you have to deliver a letter to for hours probably less so.

9 sq km makes it a bit larger than simcity 5. 3x3km sounds way too low for an RPG. Still looks awesome, but I bet they could get the game bigger provided it is meant to run on 2015 hardware.

Bigger doesn't always mean better. If you cared to read their blog post you'd see why they're going for the map size they're aiming for.

I prefer realistic size, I like to wander around. It helps immerse me in the world, their map looks a bit too small. This is a RPG after all. I don't need action action action around every corner, I want immersion.

This game does look interesting though, and I will keep an eye on it. Getting beta access isn't as important as it was a year ago, now days they just go straight to early access on Steam anyway.

20 equipment slots and 4 layers of clothing.. in a first person game where you can't see your character anyway. :c

I am actually not that fond of that blog post.

It pretty much begin by making fun of rpg with everything compressed for the sake of not being ‘boring’. ( I agree with them on that, it's one of the reason I didn't like skyrim )
Then explain that even with multiple map, they still need to also compress things ( but 'reasonably' ) because it would be unentertaining to play ( ie 'boring' ).

So it's pretty much doing what it make fun of, for the same reasons, but just in a more 'reasonable' way.

This game is already at 233k and keeps going.

Is this another example of how publishers only want to cater to the mass market side of the people that play games?

It's very odd the way my mind works, if they had called this the first of a trilogy then I would have been much more amenable to backing. But calling it Acts I and II and III? I'll wait for the Kingdom comes again and again bundle a few years from now to get all of them the same time. Funny.

Anyway these guys don't need my money to get the game done anyway which is one of my criteria for kickstaring.

And MS were dumb to not jump on this. It could have been to the one what Morrowind was to the OG Xbox.

Immersion is different for different people though to be fair. Like for me, I feel more immersed if there's a more attention to detail rather than gigantic maps which are mostly empty.

I disagree with how you read it.

What they are doing is actually setting a realistic scope for their setting, and that's why they are able to build a relatively (!) "small" map to accommodate it -- which is still realistic. It's a set of small European settlements somewhere in the countryside.

On the other hand, Oblivion supposedly featured the capital of a continent-spanning empire, and many of its most important cities. With a total of 300 people, and on a similarly-sized map.

I believe that the private investor will be so impressed with amount of support this campaign gets from the crowd, he might invest more than he previously planned.

Hah, why do that? He'll need to invest less and get more ROI since it'll take far fewer sales to get into profit territory.

Probably great news for later projects WarHorse wishes to do though.

Wow, this really picked up from when I checked it earlier.

I was confident it would get funded when I saw it at £30,000, but now that it's already almost hit the goal I'm mighty impressed.

I was tentatively excited for this before, but now that I know it should be properly funded, maybe even more, I'm just plain excited for it.

Kingdom Come: Ground Zeroes? It looks quite a bit longer at least. I want want to agree with the poster who said to make it a trilogy and give this full game status, but that might be tricky with the map interconnectivity they have going.

Very interested in this project, Im too poor to back though. I have no doubts itll reach its goal.

I don't think they're hard-nosed enough to turn down the opportunity to raise more funds from Kickstarter.

This is 10% of their budget, even if they quadruple the kickstarter they'll have less than half of what they need. Plus from what the head guy's blog says it seems like they already know what they wish to do and have no desire to fall prey to feature creep or an unsustainable expansion of scope.

Could be wrong though, we'll see in the next month. I think they're waiting for 100% funding to post their first update :)

They just posted an update saying as much :) http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1294225970/kingdom-come-deliverance/posts
And as we are happy enough to expect to reach our original goal soon, we also work on our stretch goals.

We are planning video updates about important gameplay elements. We want to show our character editor and how you can use it to customize your character. There will be more info about the combat system and you will see how it looks in the latest version of Cryengine. Then we want to show you how our world looks like and what its real-world counterparts are. And by the end of the campaign we have a big surprise planned. If you don’t want to miss anything, watch our Twitter, Facebook and YouTube channel.

What do you guys think the chances are of them switching over to the Cryengine update with PBR? and hence, remaking most of the games materials and textures in accordance with that before release?

It would make the game look that much more realistic.

Act 2 and 3 aren't full sequels though. They're more like large expansion packs. Since they also continue the story, it makes sense to label them as "Acts".
