So, as a member of #TeamReal I wanted to be certain every NPC that we have seen has been without an outline; here were my findings:
YES. Every NPC so far has had no outline whatsoever, however these are all background characters; except for one. Playabel Luma does not have one, while Rosalina does.
Which lead me to do a little more research to find out that there are some inconsistencies with the outlines:
Characters weapons are generally not outlined:
except for Link's and Toon Link's Sword and Shield combo:
Which leads me to believe that if this "leak" is real: She is most likely playable.
However, the inconsistencies with the weapons has me intrigued however.

Perhaps Sakurai had outlines turned off in some of pictures right?

If outlines are "disabled" how come the characters still have their outlines? Unless there are specific checkmarks on what is outlined and what isn't, I'm pretty sure all the pictures I posted had their characters outlined.
I'm not arguing anything though hahah it was just an observation.
Edit:
Yes they do.
Maybe specific things are outlined as the graphics of sword/shield may clash when zoomed out?

Palutena's staff is outlined in the images except for the floating blue ball at the top of it. Which just strikes me as pretty real looking; as shown above, the outline is not consistent across the board for all parts associated with characters. Pit's wings are also not outlined.

it's really interesting to see what is outlined and what isn't.
My guess would be that outlines apply to the character model, which is why Link would have his weapons outlined. weapons that aren't are probably their own seperate object/model detached from the character which would explain why Toon Link's Bow and Pit's weapons aren't outlined.
A point against this though is Pit's wings. haha

I don't think there are hard and fast rules as to what is outlined on the characters and what isn't, they just go with what looks and reads best.

Besides, Palutena was my least favorite of Hades, Viridi, Pit, Pitoo, Most of the speaking bosses, etc. The only person who speaks and ranks lower are Dark Lord Gaol and Medusa. I like her, but I like others more.
