Kingdom Come - Realistic open-world Medieval RPG [Kickstarter]

This part doesn't sound good for next year :p

Before I spill the beans about how it worked out, let me digress for a minute. Our meeting with the investor took place 13 days before the launch of PS4. What has that got to do with us? A lot, because I had deduced one interesting, almost shocking revelation from our negotiations: one of the main reasons why nobody had signed for our game was the fear, I would say almost horror, of the established big publishers that the new consoles would be a washout, that they weren’t powerful enough and that people today wanted nothing but free-to-play MMOs for iPad. So they were all preparing a few guaranteed mega-titles and waiting to see what happened with regard to everything else, which sent a few studios to the wall and might also result in a big drought for good console games in 2015, because I get the feeling from behind-the-scenes talk and indications that most publishers have nothing prepared for that year, because they didn’t want to plan that far ahead in such an uncertain climate and now they can hardly come up with something epic in less than two years. (But I might be wrong. Feel free to put me right if you know more than I do, which is entirely possible.)

Now give us some stretch goals, and let's roll to a million shall we !

Very interesting read (and as a site note, the guy seems like a pretty good writer) indeed.

And I think this where the PS4 has real edge and where Xbone really holds down possible design decisions, in comparison too pretty unrelevant GPU disparity.
PS4 has touch screen that can be utilized in many ways from map navigation, cursor navigation or support for many more buttons, where Xbone doesnt have anything like this.
Do you honestly think a simple touchpad (pad, not a screen) would make the PS4 version have a real edge? Sure, it may help with a few minor things making them slightly more comfortable , but it's certainly not a game changer or anything.

First batch of stretch goals from the latest update:

Those are really cool stretch goals. Especially the period music (I LOVE authentic medieval music, and the Czech Republic is rife with great medieval folk bands such as Psalteria (now defunct, sadly) and Krless) and the female character bit.

I wonder if Sean Bean charges extra to be killed off or if it comes with his standard acting package now. Maybe he likes to be killed off so he charges more if he lives.
Questions questions.

Update #4

Stretch goals

You have taken our campaign literally by storm, we never expected to raise our goal in the first 36 hours. But we can always do better and there are things we can do to make Kingdom Come: Deliverance go further.

Our investor is as happy as we are and he confirmed that he will keep his part of the bargain. This means that every penny will go into making the game better. We can hire more people, use better technologies, record live music, and hire top actors. Somebody told us to hire Sean Bean for voiceovers. Yeah, we would love to, he is awesome, but we will need some serious cash to afford such famous names and the more we raise, the higher the chance this will happen.

So here is the list of things we would like to do with the extra money we raise:

Just so long as they put good actors in the mocap suits. The voices in the trailer, although I'm sure they're placeholder, are a little offputting.

I hope they at least reach the female character goal - it is a nice option to have.

lol but lets be honest - it costs 100,000 for a female re-skin and some extra story and dialogue?

reskin would be much more expesive and imo not worth it as they are aiming for realism (female knight in 15th century Bohemia is nonsence).
This is "just" big questline as the girl(miller's daughter) which saves the blacksmith at the start of the game.

I meant that if You design controls around tons of buttons/mouse navigation on PC, You cant recreate that on Xbone, but You can on PS4 with touch pad.
The worst thing about past generation [next to RAM limitations] were controls, like for example Mass Effect 2, where one button was dodge, resurrect and cover ..., that was so annoying in MP.

Getting to Performance Capture Would be amazing.

Maybe not, but i'm sure a good motion capture integration costs more than 100k £

Update #5

New tiers

We were surprised how fast the Emperor tier sold out. Is seems that some people really wanted to own some sword. Many people also wanted to contribute more and used the Pope tier – that was a pleasant surprise. For these reasons we added three new tiers:

  • The Wenzel der Faule backers will get a sword. However, we want the first backers to have something unique, so while the Emperor tier swords will carry unique inscriptions, the Wenzel swords will be all alike. And because we don’t have unlimited supply of churches, the Wenzel tier backers will get their conciliatory cross instead of a church portrait. The conciliatory cross is a medieval artefact, especially in Central Europe, whereby a criminal could reconcile with his victim by paying a compensation and erecting a cross. Finding conciliatory crosses is going to be an achievement in our game and they will carry names of the Wenzel der Faule tier backers.

  • The Illuminatus and Saint tiers are intended for the people with lot of money and no better way of spending them. The swords for these tiers are going to be hand-and-a-half, i.e. so called Bastard swords. They will be of the highest quality, hand-made, individually forged beautiful weapons with personalized inscription. Beside the sword you will also get a hand-painted shield decorated with the coat-of-arms of a noble family related to the game story. You will also get billing in the game credits.

  • The Saint tier backers will moreover get their own statues in the in-game churches, with their name on it. And they will get an amazing two day tour through the real-world locations where our game takes place. There will be a professional historian/archaeologist to point out the historical connections and you will be able to visit places that are normally off limits to tourists.

Those are some fantastic stretch goals, mostly because the gap between them is really small. This guys are putting one hell of a campaign.

Edit: Now make Sean Bean a stretch goal, followed by another stretch goal to not having him die until the end of the trilogy.

The world would implode if Sean Bean actually managed to survive a story!

I was just coming to post the same thing. Manageable increments, clearly defines, and tangible benefits for each. Really well done, and makes it much more likely they'll make them.

I would love the option to play a female character, but I understand having one for the entire game was not their intention, and I'm fine with that. I would hope they give her her own animations and not just make her a simple re-skin of some NPC. They're already pushing 400,000, so there might be a chance.

Oh, and by the way, I will never understand the love-affair people have with celebrities. Why not save some cash and just hire a voice actor? What's the big deal about having someone "famous" do the work? I mean, I like Sean Bean and all, and the sound of his voice is pleasant, but come on.
He wasn't even that great in Oblivion.

I laughed out loud at the mention of Sean Bean in the update, not because I wouldn't want him in the game as I think he's great, but the first thought that came to mind was 'Ooh how would he die in the game then ?' Guess I wasn't the only one here to think that :P

Damn, now this is an interesting project. I'll be following this one very close no doubt about it. Might back in a few days too.

They should hire Simon Templeman for the main character's voice. I'm sure he's not that expensive, and he's ridiculously talented. And I would back this to infinity. :nods:

There is a big possibility that people could misread the gender stretch-goal and think that you could play the whole game with the female character, whereas it only pertains to the opening part, which was initially supposed to be a cinematic intro, but would now be playable with a female character.

I'm all for more realistic medieval games. I'm a huge fan of Chivalry, Mount and Blade, and Crusader Kings II. I don't like it being first person though, I hope they at least include the option to switch views.

imo when making a melee combat system, it HEAVILY depends on which view you use.

Third person might be nice just to see your armor but you can do that in the inventory screen so maybe just to take pretty pictures......... that's about it.

I want somebody to name a game that has a deep first person AND third person melee combat system. Chances are one or the other is a lot less useful.

Warhorse choose First person and hopefully I feel it was the right choice especially if they are going with the "realistic" tag.

If people misread the incredibly clear statement above as to what it is in regards to the female character then they need a good hard slap.

Name dropping Ryse for performance capture is fantastic. If anyone hasn't played it, look up a couple of scenes on you tube. Facial capture is phenomenal, probably the best you will see in a game.

Here is some of my own examples:

Ryse: Forest Level - First 20 seconds

also

Ryse: Beach Level - First 27 Seconds

Also, the female character stretch goal sounds great. Might have to update my backing to Earl now.

Definitely going to back this, just can't decide between £30 physical edition and the £65 one.

Definitely going to go for one of those, that's how you do a collector's edition - none of this "Throw a soundtrack CD and some DLC in there and sell it for 70 quid" that some publishers are fond of doing these days.

To think Warhorse are working with a smaller budget, probably higher production costs for the physical items, and are still selling the two editions for very reasonable prices.

Is it possible to use amazon payments for this? I know kickstarter has it, but I've set mine up a while ago and cannot see an option to use it when it comes to payment options to back this. Anyone know? Thank you.

Edit: My fault for not doing better research, appears Amazon Payments only works with kickstarters that have a U.S. based bank account it seems.

P.S. I backed at the digital knight tier. Was about perfect for me, I hope this game capitalizes on its potential.
