The fools said the same thing last years AO when Serena had injury timeout against Sloane.

"Just a tool. Serena will win because no injury."

Followed by Serena getting wrecked.

Whenever a top player takes an injury timeout while losing Gaf calls it fake.

I always prefer to give the player the benefit of the doubt. Tatical MTO's are usually deep into the set, tie-break or just before, say, if someone is serving for the set. They're not called after a couple of games in the hope it might throw their opponent off after a five minute break. That's such a long shot, anyway.

I hope Wawa plays really softly just to have some equal footing, give Nadal time to loosen and warm back up, then still win!
Eh, that's not really playing with integrity IMO.

Give it all you got, all the time. If the opponent can't cope, then they should retire.

Okay, I feel pretty sorry for Nadal at this point. This is just ugly now.

Is like they aren't human. Anyone can get injured. the venom hold by some here is disgraceful

I'm not buying the injury, sorry Rafa. The last time I remember him playing with a similar whimper was when Delpo put one on him at the 2009 US Open. Similar body language to then, although I think this is worse because Wawrinka was putting a beating on him.

Yeah, he's faking it because Stan played really well in the first set and was a break up. In a slam final. He just gave up. No mas, no mas!

Yeah, this is no way this is a fake. You have to be pretty bitter at this stage to hold that, just look at Nadal. He can't bend.

Just get this over with, jesus. This isn't fun to watch at all.

I feel bad for literally everyone involved. Nadal, Stan and everyone that paid money for this.

Stan might've won anyway given how the first set went, but this is just sad for the entire sport.

He needs to play Nadal and not the injury; which, understandably, can be difficult to do.

Yeah, you don't want to abuse the injury and become a villain, like Paire did against Kyrgios. Crowds remember that sort of thing.

You mean the tournament where it was likely Nadal wouldn't even play? Selective memory as it's finest.

People were suspicious about the MTO before seeing the shape Nadal is in now. Calm yo' tits.
Read the thread, there's still post showing up saying he's perfectly fine.

Why doesn't Nadal just quit. I respect his will to not give up but he's clearly completely off. This is no way for a champion like him to be beaten.

This sucks not just as a Rafa fan, but wow what a deflating end to the tournament. The heatwave during the first week dampened my enthusiasm a little (as did the Hewitt round 1 defeat).

Take nothing away from Stan he deserves the win SHOULD Rafa not come back from this. He played out of his skin this tournament and should be an hour or so away from becoming a grand slam champion.

Disappointed in my home crowd booing him, bunch of yahoo idiots.

Guy is in such an awful position, he doesn't want to hand the title through a retirement, but he clearly can't play. Even if he is going through the motions and can't compete, in his head it's better than retirement, particularly because the two players are on good terms off the court.

WTF is happening?

I've never seen Nadal like this. He doesn't even want to serve...he hast lost his faith. He is completly destroyed insinde.

Is it because Wawrinka is winning or because he is rly injured and can't make it?

I think he feels he owes it to Wawrinka to at least make that effort. I can respect that, takes a strong will.

Nadal body language is really loose though. Very strange to see him like this.

Its sort of expected though, since this is really only a continuation of what we saw from his match with Nishikori and Dimitrov. Only against Federer did he look really solid, which he always does against him of course.
