When Rust put the siren on the dash it was such a relief, you could just feel all that shit they were drudging up for two episodes fall away for a time.

So, does Rust have some enemies from the past come calling next time or does the new suspect have connections? I'm guessing
he's still cooking meth/LSD

Fuck me, that was some outstanding television. Marty is such a shit.

I gotta know where to get the soundtrack to this show. Some superb ambient music this episode.

Did anyone else notice that besides Eli and Remus, I'm pretty sure True Blood's Crystal the Were-Panther was the girl from Eli's church they talked to briefly?

That was an incredible hour of TV.

Marty really is a scumbag, though I guess anyone would have gone off the hinges if she suddenly wanted to break it off (because got'damn).

When they cut to black I yelled NOOOOO at my TV.

Anyone else think that they are going to go back to that school at some point? I just have a feeling there is gonna be another drawing or something inside of there.

Fantastic hour of TV there. Just knowing that there are only eight episodes makes everything much more intense for me, feels like the picked each scene carefully and everything has more meaning to it.

McConaughey was superb tonight.
-“Not everyone wants to sit alone in a room beating off to murder manuals”
-Marty snacking during the sermon scene
-Rusty's dancing was so awkward and he saw who Marty was looking at.
-Nice to see some excitement in Rust and Marty when the case has a lead.

Speculation:
This daughter subplot has me thinking maybe she got into Marty's files and recreated them 17 years later, but Rust seems convinced they didn't find the right guy.

what was martys wife talking about when she called up rust?

When cops are out whoring, it's an old tradition for their colleagues to cover for them by saying they've caught a case, got called in to work, etc. She called to see if Rust had heard anything about a case Marty had supposedly been called in on.

I think she called him to ask about whether he had heard about Marty catching another case since he didn't come home. She knew if she called the station they'd just cover for him, but I guess she figures Cohle wouldn't. Also makes me wonder where Marty went for the rest of the night after scaring that dude.

I don't believe so. That's Lindsay Pulsipher, and her name isn't in the credits.

I know Bryan Cranston is gonna win for the emmy this year (as he should), but Matthew McConaughey is equally deserving of a win.

This is the best acting he's ever done. Seriously, he is just brilliant. I'm in awe.

They'll most likely be in different categories. Cranston will go in Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. McConaughey will go in Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie.

Waiting two weeks inst fair. Fuck the Superbowl in all truth and honesty. That was so good that I'm invoking my "no previews before a finale" rule, for episode 4 of a TV show.

Incredible.

So many amazing moments in this episode. Harrelson is such a lucky guy.

This is me right now:

They really needed a better title. It didn't deter me at all, but I've told friends to watch this, and a lot of people have meh reaction to a show called "True Detective". Sounds like just another cop show.

Same here

I'm having a lot of trouble convincing people to watch it unless they really like Mathew or Woody.

But anyway I really think that

the two of them had a run in before they were partners during rusts narco days

And

one of the favors rust was talking about before ties them directly together

But

at this point I have know idea what that would mean in the grand sceme of things

Title is partially what drew me in. This would be like giving Tarantino shit for calling his movie Pulp Fiction.

Google True Detective stories.

I think it was a couple of nights according to the other guys in the station? What was it, three days or something? Just gonna assume he was sleeping in the car. Marty is a real piece of work.

Am I the only one who never remembers any of the suspect's names? I mean, I understand that this show is meant to be watched at a rapid pace, but just about every time they make reference to a suspect, I have no idea who they are talking about. Good episode otherwise, but I wish they would make more of an effort to give the slightest bit of a reminder as to who these people are instead of having to memorize someone who was in a scene for maybe 5 minutes in the first episode.

I look forward to Marty getting outed for his bullshit. The fucker has kids and Maggie is good people. Hopefully he can keep the house and mow his stupid lawn whenever he wants
