Ive always thought one thing they could try and focus on in future SSB titles is doing customizable movesets. For example you could unlock for Toon Link you could unlock Deku Leaf, Goron, Zora, Deku masks, slingshot, megaton hammer, etc and you could use those for your special moves instead of his standard moves and it could extend to his final smash as well such as transforming into Fierce Deity Link or splitting into four from four swords. Mario series, Kirby series, Pokemon series, Zelda series, Metroid series, Fire Emblem series and Mother series in particular would work well with that. Mario series could unlock specials that use the tanooki or cat suit that would be available for all characters, Luigi could unlock the Poltergeist, Yoshi could unlock various abilities he's used in various titles such as in Sunshine and Galaxy 2. Kirby could use more moves based on his various powerups , Link could use other items such as ball and chain, spinner, whip, etc. Ganondorf could use his signature energy projectiles that can be hit back or his dual swords from WW. The Pokemon series can use more attacks based on moves they can actually learn in game. Samus can use different beams such as Ice, Wave and Plasma. I could go on with various ideas.
