I know they will. I've never doubted that MS will deliver new IPs. State of Decay is a new IP, etc etc.
I think there maybe a bit of misunderstanding here. I've never contended MS on not delivering new IPs. I'm one of the those here in GAF who draws up list to follow up on development of games from respective studios, so I generally like to see something concrete before putting a star on their chest, even though it's for sure that they will come.
Well, I'm certainly excited for E3. At least one of the big companies should deliver.
btw. I'm a bit surprised that Ryse is already considered a franchise. The story was pretty self contained and nothing about it screamed sequel. I'm also not sure how they could freshen up the gameplay without building a new one from the ground up.

I feel the same. I think MS giving one of their old IPs to PG is more likely than a new IP.
What are the chances of Platinum X1 exclusive being a launch title for Japan?

Yeah but initially to me, their weaker hardware and crappy UI combined with Kinect and their decline of exclusive output in the later 360 years were all indicative of their priorities being elsewhere. I know they're bringing it with the games and I was one of the few who actually thought Microsoft had a better E3 showing than Sony. Sony were in fact the ones that spent over 10 minutes talking about their movie service while Microsoft just shat out amazing game trailer after amazing game trailer.
The weaker hardware and their crappy UI are just too big of a concern for me at the moment though. Part of the reason I loved the original Xbox and 360 so much (besides exclusive games obviously) was because the hardware was powerful and I knew they were the best place to play console games. Their UI's and online service was always two steps ahead of the competition. They felt like they were designed by hardcore gamers for hardcore games. With the Xbox One, I don't feel like any of this applies anymore. Instead of being guaranteed to have the best version of a game possible, I'm guaranteed the worst version. Instead of being guaranteed the best UI and online service for gaming, I'm guaranteed a terrible UI for gaming takes a whole 7 seconds to check friends list, is missing countless features the 360 had standard for years and is generally clunky, unpleasant and feels like it was designed by people who don't know the first thing about gaming or how a gaming console UI should work. I'm also guaranteed an online service that just doesn't seem like it's worth it anymore compared to PS+.
So I think It's great Microsoft is bringing it with the exclusive games because they no longer have their power, UI/online advantages and exclusives games are really all they're going to have from this point and it pains me to say that because I believed the first two Xbox consoles were the total package for the hardcore gamer, like they were almost designed exclusively for me. The Xbox One however, is not. They're lucky that I'm at least a hell of a lot more excited for their exclusives than I am for what I've seen of Sony's.

It would had been announced at TGS too, if it was that far in development.
Lionhead haven't looked great with or without Molyneux. I could see them getting sold off or gutted this generation.

Hmmm... Platinum has multiple teams I believe. Anarchy Reigns, TW101, Bayo 2 and MGR were in development together if I'm not mistaken. (They started working on Bayo 2 after Bayo 1 and TW101 was long in development, considering it was intended to be a Wii title).
Microsoft didn't announce anything in TGS actually and there is no release date for X1 in Japan. I can see the game being a launch title.
Fable Legends will be the first truly Molyneux-less game from Lionhead.
Let's judge after its release.
The Gunstringer is the only Kinect title they have released. And at this moment it seems that they have got a lot of creative space from Microsoft.

I don't get what you're complaining about, the question was who could be delivering the new IPs that Spencer was hinting at. Most of those studios have confirmed that they're already working on their next projects.
It's worth remembering that a lot of Xbox One's launch titles were ports of games that were initially meant to be Xbox 360 releases, so it's entirely within the realm of possibility that some of those studios have already started work on their next projects even before the launch games shipped.

It's a non factor if it's Japan only or not since you can just change your region and download it off the Japan marketplace.

Well, there was an anonymous rumor a few months back of a sequel to Ryse called Ryse: Knights of England to which Crytek offered 'no comment' on. I think Crytek can learn a lot from the feedback from Son of Rome and really polish up the combat and move on to a different protagonist fairly easily.

Agreed. Especially with the background story and forces being able to pass throughout different ages. Hell I would love for it to jump to England in the past and then jump to the future even and show the forces doing battle there.. A 3 game ark like that would be of interest to me.

Depending on when the game takes place it doesn't even have to be a melee combat sequel.

Technically true but I highly doubt they'll want to just throw away all the combat systems and tools they built in-engine over the past few years and start completely over again. They'll likely refine the combat system for a sequel.

That would be...interesting as well.
I would instead like them to perhaps grow the world and forces behind the conflict fleshed out enough that perhaps you could do an RPG of some kind on the side. But I would rather see Ryse continue as it is because damn if I didn't have a fun time.

True, but not everyone does that. It's why so many people seem to be ignoring the entire PS4 Japanese lineup
I can see why you'd not be happy with hardware however I'd argue the UI is perfectly fine. There are some kinks with the party system however they've said they are working on that. Everything else about it is pretty good. It's clean and easy to use with a controller and extremely fast if you use VCs.
Also, it definitely takes less than 7 seconds to check your friends.

Comparison is a good way to evaluate a company. This topic is about if MS are focused on new IP, and in my opinion they are not. apart from Quantum Break they don't have much else. Things like TitanFall is a lame way of getting new IP's as it is not Microsoft owned, like I said before it wouldn't surprise me if TitanFall 2 was multiplatform. It seems MS don't like to risk having a internal studio making a AAA new IP.

Speaking as a Sony fan, for me, Phil Spencer is the most likeable guy at Xbox right now. He seems to have a lot of the qualities I enjoy about the current PS4 team at Sony right now.....funny, honest, humble and even low-keyed.....big turnaround from e3 where I viewed him as just another M$ PR talking head that just happend to look just like Claude from GTA3 lol

That pretty much says it all, these guys got pulled on their project and forced to make some Gears. Really feel crappy for them but that's MS.
List wars and assumption. Some assumed that Titanfall (1) would be time exclusive and some also assumed that Gears would be released on PS4.
You also pretend that you have an objective view, but yet you feel the need of criticizing Microsoft for how they obtain "exclusive" new IP's.
Gears of War was in danger of going multiplatform, Microsoft had to buy the IP later on and get a Studio they had working on a new IP to work on Gears. TitanFall IP will be multiplatform you can count on it. What I am trying to say is not having internal developers develop new IP's shows Microsoft is not actually that commited to creating new IP. Oh by the way, are Mass Effect, Bioshock, Ninja Gaiden and etc exclusive to MS systems anymore no. That is what happens if your internal devs don't create the new IP.
Yeah but BT has already did his work on the Unreal Engine right ? Maybe fall 2015... But yes, I want they take their time for this game.

I think Spencer is probably the most open exec in gaming right now, and his little tidbits into the various projects underway are fun to read.
I think one of Microsoft's big advantages with first party projects are people like Spencer and Ken Lobb overseeing and greenlighting projects. For all the praise and love people have for Shuhei Yoshida, I don't see him as a great product manager for Sony.
Based on what we know they have lined up for the first year, I'd say they're doing just fine.

Right. Spencer certainly didn't have to reveal that Gears development had just begun. I never would have expected details like this from a tweet.
And Lobb is awesome. I hope he oversees more RARE projects based on the way KI turned out.

You can create lists of projects we think are coming, tell us how "bought" exclusives don't mean as much, and Titanfall 2 will be on PS4, but at the end of the day all that matters is what exclusive games can I only play on each console.
Unless Sony shows up at E3 and announces some amazing games that are shipping 5 months later in the fall, I don't think Sony's 2014 lineup is going to come close to competing with the XB1 lineup.
As expected, people annoyed I included unannounced games of studios. Well only time will tell which company will invest more on new IPs. Lets agree to disagree, but I put my money down Sony will be more invested on new IP than Microsoft. Hopefully in a year of 2 I can prove I was right if not I'll eat crow I guess.

I think people just get mad because you cherry pick, and it's a bit obvious. You didn't list D4, Below, Cobalt, New Lionhead IP, new IP from Undead Labs, Press Play new IP (just off the top of my head) on MS's side, but listed a lot of rumored/unannounced titles on Sony's side. I think that's the root of the "annoyed" attitude.

Three things:
1) I'm sure they'll all be really upset if they deliver an awesome Gears game that sells very well. That'll surely look terrible on their resume.
2) These guys aren't hostages. If they are horrified at the idea of working on Gears for the next couple years, they can jump ship anytime.
3) We also don't know exactly what was going on prior to this announcement. What if the leadership of the studio was having a really hard time locking down the concept for their new IP? What if the project just wasn't coming along very well? (they did name a new manager of the studio with this Gears news) There are lots of unknowns, and for all we know, most of the people at that studio are thrilled to have a clear direction now, and a guy in charge who's proven he knows how to deliver great Gears of War games.
obviously we don't know, but one of my biggest annoyances is working for months on a project at work and the higher ups change their mind, scrapping it completely. it makes it feel like you just wasted months of your life for nothing.

I guess this all depends on how good things were looking for the new spy game. They will surely have direction with Gears and Rod on board, though.
