Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Sethlon's Roy almost made me want Roy back in over a new FE character.

Almost.

Armada's Pit was also legendary. Jigglypuff minus rest plus best projectile in the game = gives no fucks mode.

So 'techs' are like dodges and stuff? What all counts as a tech?

http://www.ssbwiki.com/tech
Techs are pretty much that, except KoreanDJ utilized L-Cancelling and he tech-chased Ally, which was predicting his lag recoveries and punishing him for it.

Teching is pretty much essential to keep the flow of battle going, you hit shield right before you make contact with the ground for invincibility frames. You can use it on a ledge, on a wall, on a ceiling, the ground.

Smash is ridiculously deep and I hope Sakurai embraces that part of the game.

We're now and daily pic time guys, brace yourselves.

I can't wait for Palutena!

She'll make a great assist.

What kinds of stuff like that could you not do in Brawl? All I know is I didn't like the general feel in it. I'm guessing some techs were missing or different, because of all the competitive talk around it.

Sorry, but I actually hope it's just a pic of Kirby looking into the camera.

After Nintendo's meeting and that crazy ntkrnl/cboat stuff... I REALLY need to go to bed quickly...

Pic of the day. Both Link and Pit use bows, but when they fire simultaneously, their arrows meet and cancel out closer to Pit. Besides attack power and projectile speed, there are many elements that affect tactics, such as accuracy, vulnerability after attacking, and even seemingly unrelated features like a character's physical abilities.

It was slower, invincibility frames were different, you couldn't L-Cancel, teching in brawl had more lag than it does in Melee and PM.

The little details really make a difference in the experience.

Oh man speaking of Armada's Pit, I hope Pit keeps that projectile in this new one. Don't change anything please, that was the best thing about Pit.

EDIT: Beaten! But hey, one of those nights where you can't judge an update by its picture alone. Always glad Sakurai's letting us in on the technical side of things.

Pic of the day: the plane shown here is a metaphor for Nintendo's stock price. W-watch out! It's headed straight for the bottom of the ocean!

Yeah, the sluggishness really got me in Brawl. I love that this one looks much faster, so that's a good sign.

Sakurai should be getting more technical and that's a good thing. He's embracing what made Smash so much fun and he's delivering for both audiences.

I don't think they went into depth with that in the Dojo so it's great Sakurai is doing it now with the daily updates.

Just please please please confirm that we get only one airdodge and please give us details on landing lag and stuff like that.

cool pic atleast.

So Link's arrows are stronger than Pit's?

Just seems to be a speed difference, no commentary on the damage. They fire at the same time, and meet a split second later. The collision is by pit so link's shot was faster. It's not like they hit in the middle and link;s arrow shoved pit's aside.

Pit's neck looks so freaking broken.

Have you guys noticed that not only do most of the recent screenshots have Kid Icarus related stuff in them, but that every single screenshot so far has something Nintendo related in it? Palutena is a Nintendo character.

Think there might be a connection?

I don't know. I guess it's a telling that we are going to see Palutena being shown at Nintendo Direct. We will see if they are going to announce Direct tomorrow, if not then next week. I would bet with next week tho.

If I understand what you're getting at, Nintendo is going to buy
Nintendo.

Just a coincidence. Pac-Man gets revealed tomorrow; bet on it.

Yeeeeeaaaah I thought we learned not to rely on anniversaries.

Anyway, interesting pic. Likin' Pit's pose with the bow and arrow. Seems they're delving deep with the character details based on the caption.

...so was this picture just an excuse for Sakurai to say "I really am taking gameplay elements into consideration this time! No, honest!" Because that's kind of what it seems like to me.

Congrats, Sakurai, you know that the usefulness of a character's move varies depending on how accurate it is, how many recovery frames it has, and even how that character plays outside of that move, impacting how the move can be woven into their game in the first place. We're all very, very proud of you. Now give us back Melee's air dodge.

Seems to me like you should just be glad he's taking balancing into consideration at all sinceya know... It's his fucking game.

First, they don't want to make Melee 2.0, and they still have long list to fix. Speed is almost same as Brawl, as I see from trailer. I know it's not reliable to judge by trailer but still.

They need to get rid of Brawl's port thingy and controller input lags as well.

It's a fighting game. Not taking balance into consideration when you're making a fighting game is like not taking paragraph structure into consideration while writing a novel.

Sorry, I'm probably just bitter from last week and the seeming death of edgehogging and ledge game.

To be entirely honest I don't care much about the Melee air dodge, but I think it's evident omission is... telling to the type of game Sakurai is creating. He says a lot about catering for a medium between Brawl and Melee, but I'm not even slightly convinced that he knows how to create that medium, or even if he's all that interested in making it in the first place. Plus, when you're talking about amazing gameplay versus lackluster gameplay, I don't know why you would seek a medium when you could just shoot for the amazing gameplay in the first place.

Also, what the heck is up with this "not Melee 2.0" line of thinking? It's so bizarre. We are talking about a sequel to a franchise - it only makes sense to take full advantage of the beneficial elements of previous entries in said franchise. Did people complain when Nintendo brought back the Raccoon Leaf, saying that Mario 3D Land was Super Mario Bros. 3.5?

I'm not sure if you are being overreacted about death of edge hogging and ledge game, since we don't have game yet. We don't know that yet until we have the game in our hand.

He's probably saying "I vowed to do these 5 days a week for many months so I guess funny poses won't cut it indefinitely, let's share microscopic technical details for a change of pace."
