Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Well it's been real. After a reveal like this, it's time for some sleep.

screen-8.jpg

Think this pic could be sneaky confirmation of Jiggs? What else in smash bros. Puts you to sleep? I know a Pokemon does but we'd probably see an aura of some kind..

Lucario's pretty much Pokemon's second mascot. He deserves his spot on the roster. I don't think we should worry too much about Mewtwo's chances, he should be back.

Because showing off a new 'Mon is better promotion for their new games than "Hey look how we fucked up your favorite Pokemon designs." Besides, there's always been a rep for the most recent Pokemon games in each Smash (Pichu in Melee, an Lucario in Brawl).

Then please tell me what Gen 6 has that would even come CLOSE to the amount of marketing spent on Mewtwo in the last year.

And then tell me how that Pokemon would even come CLOSE to Mewtwo's popularity.

Since Gamefreak gets the ultimate and final decision, wouldn't mewtwo be locked in due to his popularity and relevancy? The videogames industry is a business after all..

just curious about this for a while. whenever something new is revealed is it really necessary to make a new thread? what about the people who don't want to know anything about the game. isn't that kind of spoiling it?

doesnt matter to me just been on my mind lately

New thread for new news...within reason ofcourse.

What about genesect?

Genesect is possible, but I was referring to Gen 6 specifically. Because most of the generations of Pokemon have had a specific Pokemon we'll call the "Bipedal Badass."

Mewtwo, Lucario, Zoroark, Genesect all fit under that. Genesect not as much as Zoroark, but he's definitely more popular so I digress. These Pokemon were all heavily marketed. Lucario and Zoroark specifically were the first Pokemon shown of their respective gens.

Gen 6 doesn't have any Pokemon like that. They didn't make a new Pokemon to market like that. Instead, Mewtwo made a comeback. He is basically the "Bipedal Badass" of Gen 6, because he was marketed just as Lucario and the rest were.

Wow this is amazing my training partner's main is lucario, I know when he sees all the messages im sending him he will be hyped.

Gen 6 really made the Mega Evolution mechanic their big selling point -- and the older Pokémon like Charizard, Mewtwo and Lucario were the driving forces behind that. The only reason Sylveon was as important as it was is due to being the introductory Pokémon to the new Fairy type, but as far as Super Smash Bros is concerned, we have Jigglypuff.

Pikachu
Jigglypuff
PKMN Trainer
Mewtwo
Lucario

That is always what I believed the Pokémon roster would come down to, and I'm even more certain of it now.

I don't disagree Mewtwo is defintley the obvious choice. Hopefully gamefreak/sakurai think so too.

If Mewtwo comes back will it be considered a Newcomer or returning veteran?

I have a feeling he'll be treated like an "honoary newcomer".

I definitely see two options for him:

A.) He's going to get the "newcomer" treatment with reveal trailer and everything.

B.) He's going to be a secret, unrevealed, character.
