Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Updated my roster with Lucario's reveal:

Still holding up!
It'll hold up with any veteran announced, though, since it has no cuts, lol.

No Idea. I hope so though. The 5:1 gen1-to-everything else ratio is seriously annoying.
A lot of Pokemon lend themselves to being fun characters, but it would be a little annoying to have 10% of the roster just be Pokemon. If only there was a Pokemon specific fighting game for them to go in. They could even put it on Wii U and model it after Tekken or something, idc.

Id say by and large that roster looks good and reasonable. Id personally swap Robin for Chrom & Lucina, also that spot for Shulk or W101 will likely not happen and they'll just have a random box in the bottom right corner. Other than that I think the roster would be great.

I really hope that they would bring random feature from Melee back, where your put your cursor out of roster and it will automatically random for you. However bad thing about that is that we would know who we got before the game start.

Edit: Wait, has afoni been perma'd?

We believe so.

I liked Brawl's random better, since in Melee I would tend to just pick again if I got a random I didn't like, defeating the whole purpose. Best case scenario though, we would have both.

Yeah, I realized that. They should fix that and don't show us what characters we got until the game start.

Do you guys think there will be any newcomer pokemon? Every game thus far has brought a few new ones
I'm going to defend the possibility of Zoroark until the game comes out, "failed Lucario" be damned. And I don't even like Zoroark. I just think people have been too quick to discount him since the announcement of X/Y. If he's included, it will be to represent Black/White, which are among the most notable, best-selling games released since Brawl. Sakurai made a big stink about Nintendo's lack of new characters, and Zoroark is one of the more visible recent creations. Wii Fit Trainer and Rosalina need company.

Yeah, I'm someone that wants unique, interesting fighters, and Zoroark would be a good choice to me, even if I'm extremely "meh" about the actual Pokémon itself in the main games.

I feel this way about Blaziken too (though Blaziken is awesome).

Pokémon consistently are some of the more interesting fighters in Smash Bros, gimmicks or not.

I hope so but I feel 6 Pokemon characters might be too much. I personally wouldn't mind if Jigglypuff was cut out in favor of a new poke rep but chances are almost non-existent, imo.

Agreed. Id love for some more generation diversification but I think our best hope will be mega evolutions and possibly some sprucing of Jigglypuff to show off its new fairy type addition.

Brawl's Poke representation was 11% of the roster and Melee's Poke representation was 16% of the roster. While I dont think its likely I also dont think it'd be unreasonable for there to be 6 Pokemon reps considering its Nintendo's 2nd biggest IP.

I guess in two weeks we should be anticipating the Diddy Kong or Diddy/Dixie tag-team reveal.

But in the meantime, get ready for an entire week of Lucario pics!

I don’t think it’s going to happen since Diddy’s been established as a solo character in Brawl, but I’d much rather have the Diddy and Dixie pair than either character by themselves.

  1. Tag team gameplay is a defining mechanic of the Donkey Kong Country series, and so I think it makes sense to represent it in Smash Bros.
  2. I’m a sucker for pairs/transformations/unique gimmicks.
  3. I agree that Diddy and Dixie are both individually popular characters, but they’re also boyfriend/girlfriend, so it’s not a leap that they’d fight together in Smash Bros.
  4. Many people consider Donkey Kong Country 2 the best Donkey Kong game ever made, and that’s the game where you play as Diddy and Dixie together.

Fair points. I guess part of what makes it seem so excessive to me is thinking of Pokemon Trainer as three characters.

I wish Jiggly had been cut from 64-Melee, since she's kinda insignificant, but after a return appearance I think most characters are generally here to stay. I felt the same way about Lucario in this game too. I can't really complain though, since both have cool movesets and play styles. As far as characters for the sake of their character, I'd be happy if it stopped at Mewtwo, Pika, and Pokemon Trainer's three starters.

I imagine that if Diddy isn't revealed in 2 weeks, then he had indeed undergone some changes, possibly with Dixie in tow. I can't imagine they'd simply update the site if such a big change were to actually be applied.

I still really love the template you used for your roster the most out of the fan rosters floating about the net. You need to outsource your tech so
I can further rep #TeamAnna :P
I can make mine look nice too.

I want Diddy and Dixie solo because they are both unique. You have Ice Climbers which both do the exact same thing. Diddy and Dixie won't act like Ice Climbers since they're both different, they would act like transformation characters instead.

Did I miss the boat on complaining about Lucario being strong enough before?

Because Aura was more than powerful enough before.

It's a bad comeback mechanic because it not only makes the weak stronger but the strong stronger as well. If Lucario is in the lead on a stock, kills his opponent, his opponent comes in and now has to fight a very powerful Lucario in order to catch up, giving him a high chance of gaining an even more significant lead as you try and kill his powered up self that's ahead of you in stocks.

edit: The Wonderful 100? what's that :P
Someone hasn't played The Wonderful 101! ;P The team of characters you control are "The Wonderful 100" (pronounced "one-double-oh"). The title of "The Wonderful 101" can refer to YOU, the player, as the 101st Wonderful One.

Thank you! I don't really know if there's a good way I can share my template, but I suppose I could upload the .xcf file if you use GIMP. Also, the character names were rendered in a different applications, so unfortunately the GIMP file doesn't have text fields that can be easily replaced...

Actually Mewtwo is a (forced) genetic offspring of Mew. The clone thing is in the anime only.

Anyway, Wolf's special move names are lame in the translated version, in Japanese they were manly.
Claw Blaster, Wolf Shoot, Wolf Flash

I find it interesting how unpredictable some of the characters has been. I didn't really expect to see Luigi, Marth, Toon Link and Lucario until the game got released, and we have yet to see characters like Yoshi and Ice Climbers.

Hope we'll see Mr. G&W and R.O.B. soon.
