Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Damn!
He must feel pretty stupid now lol

Anyway, I'm glad Lucario's back.
Like someone said earlier today, I'd love to see everyone from Brawl coming back
...except for Snake.

Yup! Haha its probably an unpopular opinion, but I'm in the same boat!

Everyone from Brawl returns, except snake, plus the return of Mewtwo and MAYBE Roy, plus newcomers.

I'm happy with any newcomers so long as they aren't:

1. Ghirahim
2. Bayonetta
3. Cranky Kong
4. Samurai Goroh
5. GHIRAHIM :|

Wait, what's wrong with Bayonetta and Goroh? The former would be a brilliant, unique addition from a fantastic game series and a great company. The latter is a samurai, which is inherently pretty cool in my eyes. Unless someone was hoping for Takamaru, I guess.

Cranky Kong, K.Rool or Dixie Kong pls Sakurai.

EDIT: I just imagined what a trailer revealing villains would be, imagine Ridley, K Rool, Ghirahhim and Mewtwo just destroying everyone.

Dixie's one of my most wanted newcomers, and she's the only Donkey Kong newcomer I feel has any chance whatsoever, but I'm still nervous/doubtful of her inclusion. Tropical Freeze is the big push she needs to justify playability after a long period of inactivity, but I'm worried Sakurai might not have known she'd be in that game when he was putting the roster together in early 2012. He might have figured Donkey and Diddy represent the series just fine after Donkey Kong Country Returns.

I think the fact Dixie was planned for Brawl, despite not being in a platformer since DKC3 is more than enough to justify that she'll be in Smash 4. I wouldn't stress about it too much.

Year of Cranky.

Well, Sakurai did considered to add Dixie to Brawl despite the fact that she have been absent for long time, so I think she still have good chance to be in 4th game.

I think two or three female characters still have chance to be in SSB4: Palutena, Dixie and Medusa

Rosalina was known to be in 3D World long after Dixie was known to be in Tropical Freeze. It's also likely Sakurai knew what's going on with TF

1. Bayonetta
2. Waluigi
3. Chibi Robo (Only because of a bet)
4. Samurai Goroh (Because I want Takamaru to get in)

DKCTF would've started development at least a year before SSB4 did and she was going to be playable to some capacity originally in Brawl even without that extra relevancy. DKCR also made DK a 'big' Nintendo franchise again, even if it excluded Dixie entirely, so they might feel DK's big enough to justify having 3 reps this time around (personally it sort of annoys me that people still treat it as a Mario offshoot).

Unless Sakurai never even bothered approaching Retro near the beginning of development to ask for DKCR/Prime material to but in Smash and found out what they were working on next, I'd still say her chances are pretty high. Could just as easily wind up being Cranky though, who I'd enjoy. I'm just rooting for K. Rool since I feel his moveset potential is more immediately obvious than Dixie/Cranky, even if the character's effectively dead.

Hades is way more likely than Medusa at this point IMO, though Palutena comes before either of them regardless.

Isn't Mew genderless? I don't think it can mate with any other Pokemon.

So, Mewtwo is still a clone.

Mew was pregnant, it gave birth and they performed horrible genetic experiments on the child.
Also Legendaries aren't necessarily genderless, their genders are just unknown.

You are on my shit list now.

Yeah, but all we know is that Dixie was planned for Brawl as Diddy's tag partner. What if Sakurai doesn't want to flesh her out into her own character with her own spot on the select screen? Also, the DKC remakes for GBA came out during the Brawl roster period, and they sold millions of copies. That's obviously not what Dixie is best known for, but it's still a checkmark in the recency box. She wasn't completely forgotten by 2005.

I'm pretty sure Rosalina is in this game because of Galaxy, though. Her playability in 3D World is probably just a happy coincidence (she doesn't even appear to have her sole 3D World offensive maneuver, the spin attack, in SSB). Everyone assumed R.O.B.'s inclusion in Brawl was tied to Mario Kart DS, but post-release Sakurai said he had no idea R.O.B. was going to be in Mario Kart.

Again, I'm not saying Dixie is an impossibility, but I wish I felt more comfortable about her chances.

I see her spin attack in SSB. It may not look offensive in the context of that game, but it has a pretty interesting effect.

That's why I said "or three" because Dixie and Palutena are more likely to be in the game. I'm rooting for Diddy & Dixie, despite the fact that he already have unique moveset.

MUCH better than Intelliheath's

Indeed. I need to work on my photoshop skill soon as possible.

I think the thing is it always seem to be a bit of a mystery how privy to unreleased game's development Sakurai is when he's putting a Smash game together. He had the OoT Link in SSB64 the year after OoT's release, but had no clue adult Link couldn't use the boomerang. Similarly Brawl has almost nothing related to Galaxy in the game despite it originally being planned to come out around the same time as Brawl before the delays.

On the flipside, Melee had trophies advertising Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin, while Brawl had a TP-version of Sheik nobody knew about beforehand, a remix from Wario Land: Shake It! before the game had even been announced and SSB4 so far has a Sonic: Lost World level when that game only came out a few months ago.

EDIT: I thought the entire joke was we knew afoni was full of shit when talking about leaks and the tag was a similarly tongue-in-cheek thing. Why did he get perma'd as a result?

We haven't seen her entire moveset just yet, though, have we? It wouldn't surprise me if the Mario Galaxy spin was one of her aerials (NAir seems the most likely) - I mean, after all she uses just about everything that was unique to Galaxy (shooting starbits, the Wiimote cursor with the gravity pull).
Also, I'm fairly certain that Rosalina's inclusion is not only because of the Galaxy games - Nintendo is trying to make Rosalina a bigger character by putting her in spin-offs and main series alike, and I guarantee they at least suggested (if not dictated) including Rosalina as a character to Sakurai (as I don't think it's literally just Sakurai picking characters he likes).

Everyone assumed R.O.B.'s inclusion in Brawl was tied to Mario Kart DS, but post-release Sakurai said he had no idea R.O.B. was going to be in Mario Kart.

Everyone was dumb then. :P

IMO Dixie is the most likely newcomer out of any possible newcomers at all. Don't worry.

I believed that tag was a serious warning for his trolling from OT2 since he always said a lot of "leaks" that got on people's nerves. After that, he just got title out of no where so I assumed that some members reported him to moderators.

Yeah, I actually agree on these. I just don't see that much potential in any of those characters, especially when you have potential newcomers like Takamaru, Zoroark or Palutena, who completely outclass them in how unique their movesets can be.

I'm also one of those people that do believe it'll be ridiculously hard for Snake to make it back, but I really like the idea of his character in Brawl, he was just a little too much. I'll be happy if he makes it back with some adjustments.

The worst part is people gave afoni attention. He was obviously trying to get a rise out of people, and people just fell for the bait constantly.

If another poster like that came, I'm sure that the same people would give attention.
lol

Donkey Kong will get a third character, I am almost certain of it.

I still think K. Rool is more likely than some people give him credit for. He's been wanted for ages, and back during the Brawl days he had far more supporters than Dixie did. He's still probably the most requested character after Ridley and Little Mac outside of Japan (let's ignore silly requests on Miiverse like Goku and Shadow), and apparently in Japan he's one of the most requested characters too.

Don't get me wrong, I expect Dixie, but K. Rool certainly has a good shot at being the third character. It won't be Cranky, it would be insanity to put him above those two. Nobody even acknowledged the idea of him being in Smash until Tropical Freeze.

Someone was talking about the potential in the OST for Smash 4 and I've just come to the realization that most Nintendo franchises had their best (musical) entries since the day Brawl was released. Considering that Brawl also managed to side step a lot of good entries that were out around the same timeframe as well (Galaxy games, Prime games, etc.), this could be the defacto best OST ever.

My least wanted newcomers?

1. Toad
2. Diddy & Dixie tag team
3. Takamaru, because of a bet that I'm going to win

You're an awful person and you should feel awful.

Alt Post: If you win this one, I hope you lose every bet made for the following year. >:D

I don't get why people want Diddy and Dixie as a dual character. Maybe if you can switch like Zelda and Sheik, but even then tagging out isn't even a feature in DKC anymore.

Then again, DK doesn't hold barrels with both hands anymore but I can guarantee you his grab will still be that way in Smash 4.

Man, now I hope they change it. throwing people over your shoulder and carrying them looks cooler.
