Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I mean, there's clearly salt, but I think a lot of people don't like Lucario because he's just... not appealing to them. Me? I hate Lucario. I think he's absolutely terrible.

I prefer Brawl to Melee. 4th Gen is my favorite Pokemon gen. I fully expect Mewtwo to return, and he was clearly planned for Brawl alongside Lucario. His playstyle is fine, and actually pretty interesting, I think. I have no problem with him returning - more veterans the better.

But he's really, really ugly, with a design that seems pinpointed to "what can we make cool" rather than "what makes sense." He's the worst sort of "badass" Pokemon that they keep bringing back, when there's dozens if not hundreds of better designed, better realized Pokemon that deserve attention. He's an obvious "trying to be cool" design that, worst of all, seems to have actually worked.

(Sidebar: I actually really like Riolu, though...)

I'm a bit in disbelief that Nintendo's lineup for the first half of the year just consists of DK in February and Mario Kart in May. I was optimistic that Smash was coming sooner than we think but with how late Mario Kart is launching maybe I'm just fooling myself to think that Smash would be out by September.

Among the GAF posts on the wall (I'm trying to ignore the 4chan shit because who the fuck cares about 4chan), the best one has got to be...

"This piece of shit is like the Sonic of Pokémon. Trying to make an 'edgy' character and shit. Absolutely awful."

It baffles me how people think Mewtwo won't make it in. Let's look at something real quick. Mario has 5 reps in Smash 4. Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, and Rosalina. Wario, DK, and Yoshi are considered as part of separate series in Brawl so they don't count. Now Pokemon has Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Lucario, Pokemon Trainer, and Mewtwo. Which would also be 5 reps. Pokemon is also Nintendo's 2nd largest franchise after Mario. Since this would be the same number of reps, why do people think Mewtwo would be cut? He was only cut in Brawl because of time constraints.

Mewtwo will be in it. I'm sure of it. Nintendo has been pimping them both hard this gen with the Mega forms and what not.

And Sakurai is aware of how much people want him to return to Smash.

One of the most amusing things about the picture is that people are using Lucario to complain about only veterans being shown off.

But Mewtwo isn't a newcomer to Smash. '__' He's just as much of a veteran as Lucario is.

I don't see why Lucario means no Mewtwo... and they can definitely have quite different move sets. I'm glad both will (hopefully) be in.

Get rid of Pokemon trainer though. Project M did that right.

I don't really care if there's a new Pokemon rep.

You're kinda ignoring that Pokemon Trainer is like three reps in one though.

Not that I'm saying there's no way Mewtwo will return. I personally really hope he does.

I know we don't have full roster for Smash 4 but I want to show the comparison between concept arts.

That's kinda what I was thinking, though some friends I was talking to were speculating on if Red would be replaced with Calem or Serena.

I'm personally leaning more towards Red returning (maybe with a Leaf alternate).

We've had Rosalina revealed as a newcomer when you would assume that if any newcomer was going to be secret, it would be her, being an unexpected character and the fifth Mario character to boot.

Everyone recalls Metwo's data on Brawl's disc, but wasn't Dr. Mario there also? Maybe both him and Luigi are the Mario unlockables, who knows?

I'm very sure the Pokemon Company are pushing for Mewtwo's Inclusion.

He had three major appearances last year. There was Pokemon X/Y with him being catchable, and having both mega forms, then there was the Genesect movie where Ladytwo was more the focus than Genesect in it's own movie. Then raging game Mewtwo was in Pokemon Origins.

Mewtwo and Lucario will be here repping.

Indeed. I edited my post. For in game models, I will put it on hold until Smash 4 get released.

I would like to post one of my favorite picture from Melee.

Yeah, I also love how they did a line up of the cast of Brawl in that game's opening.
SSB4 better have something with the entire cast lined up.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Gen VI's reps are Mega Mewtwo and Lucario.

The reason everyone points out Mewtwo is because he, along with Dixie, are the only ones who aren't clones on that list. I doubt any of the cut clones are returning.

According to Pokémon lore, it would be impossible for Lucario (and Mewtwo) to Mega Evolve in Smash Bros. since it requires a trainer with a Mega Ring. A wild Pokémon can't technically Mega Evolve.
I think I read somewhere that Mewtwo Mega Evolves in the Genesect movie without a trainer. There's also a lot of baseless, non-canonical stuff in Smash Bros. (Lucario's aura mechanic is practically invented from scratch), so I don't think a sans-trainer Mega Evolution is out of the picture.

Has anyone considered the fact that Mega Evolution (at least as far as we know) isn't possible without a trainer? I wonder what this means for Lucario. Perhaps Korrina will appear during his Final Smash sequence.

Or maybe just Ri

ley.

Hah! You posted this as I was typing! :D

According to Smash Lore every character is a Figurine brought to life.

I know you are joking, but this was talked about yesterday. Mewtwo is only a clone in the anime, in the games Mewtwo is the child of Mew that was experimented on.

He could still technically be a clone. How else were they able to get the DNA to impregnate Mew? Mew was both the surrogate mother and possibly original source for the DNA.

Clones still have to be born, so it really doesn't change. Only difference is them having identical genes to the original source. The anime only used tubes because I'm sure they didn't wanna show a birth. Plus all the other clones in the movie wouldn't be able to do much, because they would have been babies rather than enhanced genetic copies. It was needed to be done that way for the movie's story.

Only reason I've brought this up is because Metal Gear Solid has explained about clones. Lol
