Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I wouldn't get your hopes up for something like that happening. Unless they just make a filter over the models, which wouldn't look nearly as cool. But I would assume Mr. Game and Watch would be over powered on his own turf.
Like the Mr. Game and Watch stage in Melee and Brawl

So, some reveal possibilities:

- Thursday, Feb. 13 -- Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze releases in Japan -- Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Diddy & Dixie?

- Thursday, Feb. 27 -- The 18th anniversary of Pokémon Red/Green in Japan -- Jigglypuff, Pokémon Trainer (Squirtle / Ivysaur / Charizard), or Mewtwo?

- Friday, March 14 -- Release of Yoshi's New Island in U.S. and Europe (I don't see a Japanese date on Wikipedia) -- Yoshi?

- Friday, March 21 -- One day before two-year anniversary of Kid Icarus Uprising -- Palutena?

What else might make sense in terms of timing?

Wario would be Mario Kart's reveal during May.

Do you have a higher resolution image of that? I want to use it as a desktop background.

Unfortunately no.

I love how people think Lucario was most likely to get cut and an indication that all characters will make it back in. It shows how out of touch most Smash fans are with Pokemon. Lucario's a mascot of Pokemon similar to Pikachu, but obviously not as big, but really, I guess there is no point in saying this since most people will continue to be ignorant.

There is no indicator as to all characters will make it back in. The only one is that they show the final roster and it shows all of the characters from Brawl.

Also, 3DS game carts have much faster read times than dual-layer discs on the Wii. Pokemon Trainer would not be a problem on the 3DS.

I feel the same way about Toon Link. People thought he'd be first on the chopping block because of the clone stigma, but his design was used in five separate Zelda games. He's an important Nintendo character.

Yea, I see what you mean. I was very happy to see Toon Link

I thought it was 6 or 7 games?

Wind Waker
Minish Cap
Four Swords
Four Swords Adventure
Phantom Hourglass
Spirit Tracks

Am I missing something?

It's really the only design of Link that has been consistent in looking similar to each other. And personally, Toon Link is my favorite design of Link.

Though I wish Sakurai used different items for Toon Link, like some of the unique items from those games above.

Yeah, but some people would rather have Mewtwo not be playable than to be stuck playing playing as a bottom tier character.

But that's where Brawl was supposed to possibly buff him up, make him a better character.

--------------------

I liked Dr. Mario, he should come back as his own character only if his moveset has Mario's (and his) pre-Brawl down special and down air along with his other defining attributes from Melee.

If he is nothing more than an alternate costume, then do what the PMBR did with the alternate costume engine: give him the pills and electricity where there is fire. And if possible, when he is selected/wins his own character call, ie "This games winner is [Dr. Mario]!" He was his own character in Melee, would at least be respectful and possibly acknowledge that. Haha

I still have to wait at least a month for my Yoshi reveal.

That is SAD.

Saw this on Tumblr and thought it was cool.

Not complete.

Missing one of the eight.

:/

So now that we have Lucario. Will he Mega Evolve?

Yes.

And in the spirit of wishful thinking, if you press the button for Aura Sphere, he'll perform the Kamehameha instead.

Would people get mad if the replaced Yoshi with Yarn Yoshi?

That might depend on what makes yarn yoshi different than regular Yoshi. If it's just cosmetic changes, many would just be confused on why Yarn would replace the classic depiction for promotion of one game. Probably throw pattern seekers off the roof.

If he has actual different moves, you better believe it.

Won't happen. Yarn-yoshi could be an alt or perhaps a DLC alt(if they go that route).

That said I wouldn't be mad if they do.
Could be a cool concept.

He could start out like he is on the right and as he takes damage he looks like he does on the left.

The one from the right...he looks so cute

Worst case scenario for Yoshi is if they add Baby Mario and everytime you get hit (I mean every little tap) Baby Mario goes off crying in his bubble and you have to go fetch him every time.

Honestly, the best time to show Mewtwo would be on E3 imo. I also think the reason they are slowly showing new character is to show of a batch of newbies all at once at E3, would be hype.

Yarn Yoshi, COME BACK TO ME!
I can't believe it's been over a year since we saw that game.

Sorry if this has been discussed but, do we think the next nintendo direct could be early in feb as opposed to most of them occurring later in the month just because there wasn't one in Jan and as a follow up to the investor's meeting?

I'm hoping that worst case scenario is that it has been moved to 3DS or their next gen handheld. If it has been straight up canceled I will be very sad...
Why would it be on a handheld? Yarn Yoshi's whole purpose is to show how beautiful Wii U graphics can be according to Iwata.

I hope Yoshi's New Island comes out in Japan next month so we can get that reveal out of the way. I don't want to wait till summer. :<

Hopefully Japan gets a release date during this month's Direct.

Because Wii U.

That's a stupid reason. The Wii U is failing but Nintendo is still releasing software for it. And you'd have to radically downgrade the game to get it running on 3DS. It'd be a completely new game. Plus Yoshi's New Island is on 3DS.

That's why I said hopefully that is the worst case scenario.

If Mewtwo is back (and I'm confident that he will be), I'd imagine he'll probably be a hidden character again (assuming hidden characters are still a thing), so I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't announced until after the game comes out.

Which would make the salt of the people who said they won't buy this game because Lucario is in instead of Mewtwo even more delicious.

Care to explain why?

Character who's relevant again thanks to X/Y, already has a moveset from Melee they just need brainstorm a final smash for and already has people complaining about his absence since Brawl.

Seems an easy way to have both an X/Y rep (integrate his Mega Form somehow) and bring back the character who was the furthest into development for Brawl before getting the ax.

Valentine's Day Direct. The girls from New Love Plus+ are the newcomers. Iwata's orders.

I see people say this a lot, how do we know he was the furthest in development?

I'm pretty sure Nintendo doesn't want this game to get an 18 rating for horror as a result of putting an HD version of Mewtwo in it. Some things are just never meant to be seen.

Hey, if the uncanny valley nightmare that is WFT won't net them a 18 rating, HD Mewtwo sure won't.
