Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I was commenting on Nibel's misinterpretation since the origin source said that they will have the games out by end of the year, NOT AT THE END OF YEAR. I would rather to see developers to working on the game until they feel that they are ready to finish with the development, but you should have seen how people reacted in other thread. I can't believe that people would rather to rush the game because they want the games in their hand instead of letting people finish it on their term.

So do you all think the quote mean a holiday release of just Nintendo restating there 2014 date and summer release still possible?

I see people say this a lot, how do we know he was the furthest in development?
According to The Cutting Room Floor wiki, Mewtwo and Roy have the most amount of references in Brawl's code, even having their own victory fanfares on the disc back when it was intended everybody would have their own fanfare like Meta Knight does and not a franchise-specific one multiple characters share. The other cut characters like the Melee vets or Toon Zelda/Pramai/Dixie don't.

Wolf doesn't either, and he's in the game.

Smash threads often bring out the worst in the defensive nature of Mewtwo fans. "NO, HE WILL RETURN BECAUSE OF THEORIES." Also constantly putting down Lucario, Pokémon Trainer & Jigglypuff in favour of an ugly Meowstic. Come on now guys, really? Mewtwo deserves to return but damn.

I always thought it would be fun if they ended up doing something like this.

I find it hard to believe that the Pokemon representation will be Pikachu, Lucario, Jigglypuff, Pokemon Trainer and Mewtwo because this would mean there's not a single newcomer for the whole franchise. Even Mario got a newcomer and his franchise doesn't introduce ~100 characters every other year.

Wolf's (and maybe Toon Link/Jiggly? Wolf's the only one I've ever heard mentioned) the only included character who doesn't. I think it makes more sense to assume he was planned for Brawl, got cut like Roy and Mewtwo did but even earlier than they were, and then at some later point him alongside T. Link and JIggly were resurrected.

when in doubt of people simply pointing out he was planned for brawl at some point when asked, just represent their argument in WACKY ALL-CAPS

Don't quote me but the release date can be anytime from now to Dec 31, 2014. Obviously it's not for next few months because we didn't get release date yet.

Well, when you think of one of the characters being 3-in-1, I think it would be enough representation really. Zoroark might've had a shot if this game was being made when gen 5 was starting, but GameFreak really gave up on it. I really can't see any other fitting rep for Pokemon at this time.

Yes, but there's no reason to worry since 20+ years of mainline game appearances isn't going to be replaced with a one-off outsourced depiction.
Other M.

Maybe Yoshi is getting a major overhaul so that's why he has not been announced. Sakurai Pit is not one of the original 8 (12) so don't you try to change that! (You already did anyway)

The newcomers could be the Mega Evolutions of Lucario, Mewtwo and Charizard.

Poor zoroark...eh it's sorta gamefreaks own fault for making it event exclusive for some reason in bw1...and being somewhat bad battle wise lol.

I'm sort of torn. Kinda want Mewtwo back, but I feel Gen One is overrepresented. I think another Pokemon character in addition to Mewtwo would also be kind of overkill.

I think, for me, the best case scenario would be to bring him back but change him up with the X/Y Megaevolutions in a way that represents the new games and makes him feel fresh and fun.

The release date will mega evolve into 2015.

I'm assuming the mega evolutions are going to be one of the driving reasons behind him coming back, for as much as I find the X and Y forms sort of derpy. Never follow the Pokemon side of Smash that much but nothing when I played through Y really seemed to stick out that much as a playable rep, yet Mewtwo/Lucario/Pikachu/the Gen 1 starters and even Jigglypuff all had some level of significance in it.

I'd prefer it if the mega forms were held off as a final smash transformation, though I guess given how janky his Melee moveset is I could see them replacing his Down-B move.

I was wondering about are personal leaker saying they was targeting spring release, and if it was pushed back I would not think it be pushed that far away since content is being revealed at a faster pace and the game looks deep in development.

Other M is considered a mainline sequel, and the character designs were done in-house by Nintendo. It's Samus' latest "official" design -- it even shows up in Nintendo Land. Yarn Yoshi is simply a visual reimagining of the regular Yoshi to fit the yarn theme of the game. It's not a replacement.

I think there's definitely plenty of Pokemon representation as well, I just can't imagine Sakurai being satisfied with not adding any new Pokemon characters. I'm sure he feels that fans will be upset if the 2nd biggest franchise in the game only got returning Melee/Brawl characters. I still really like the idea of including a rival trainer or gym leader as a character.

I'd genuinely love if they replaced Pokemon Trainer's Pokemon.

Even another starter generation with identical moves would be fine.

I would too, but then we would never hear the end of people bitching that they removed Charizard, especially now that he has Mega Evolutions. It would be worse than the Mewtwo bitching!

To be honest, their not so subtle pushing made me completely uninterested. But since seeing it as a wild Pokemon in XY, I decided to give it a chance and now I really like it. I do think GF/TPC handled Zoroark terribly from the movie it appeared in. Even though the movie was named after Zoroark, Zorua was the one who spoke telepathically which was a mistake (and I do feel Zorua might be the more popular of the two). Unlike Lucario in his movie, you don't really ever learn much about Zoroark itself. Then you get to Black and White where unless you get Celebi or the Legendary Beasts, you're out of luck unless you live in Japan and get that Zoroark they handed out with Snarl. Team Preview screwed up Zoroark's gimmick. And the writing is on the wall in BW2 when Lucario comes back as a mascot.

It's truly a shame.

That 'leaker' was just leroidys regurgitating what a friend of his at NoA said. While I highly doubt he was lying, his friend could just be someone in marketing or another area which misheard stuff about Smash coming out soonish, or even mistook the May release for MK8 as being intended for SSB4. I'm personally expecting at this rate a October/November release date for the Wii U version, maybe a December or early 2015 for the 3DS version if they don't get a simultaneous release date.

Either way I'll be surprised if it comes out before E3 2014. I'm feeling there's going to be at least one more 3rd party newcomer, and they'd be better suited for a big conference like E3 rather than another Direct that doesn't have an immediate press-event to tie into.

What would people think if they kept the first gen starters, but switched them so it's Bulbasaur, Charmeleon, and Blastoise.

Depends, do we get Arm Cannons™?

It's gonna be super awkward if Pac-man is in the game...

I think Pokemon Trainer's final smash should be recalling all his Pokemon and then sending in like Darkrai or something for ten seconds to just wreck shit.

It makes a hell of a lot more sense than Triple Finish. WHAT EVEN IS THAT. THIS ISN'T CHRONO TRIGGER.

An X/Y Pokemon Trainer could also work. Chespin, Braixen and Greninja I feel represent which out of each evolutionary stage were the most popular designs.

That would make sense if they want to go the mega evolution route. Then they could use Mega Charizard wrecking shit.

Remember person said they wouldn't be surprised if it got pushed back. Well, even we are getting good amount of information but I can see that we might go for other 150 pictures so that would be 7 months. We will see next Nintendo Direct to get some idea when they will release the game.

A final smash for Pokémon Trainer that is true to the games?

Well it would obviously be
full restore
.

It's gonna be super awkward if Pac-man is in the game...
SEGA with stuff like Sonic Unleashed and Generations unloaded the shittier budget versions on Nintendo, Mega Man's had a ton of Sony-only entries, there was quite a lot of MGS2/3/4 stuff in Brawl... I don't think Nintendo will ultimately care too much that the latest Pac-Man game got its Wii U/3DS version cancelled, though the timing's funny enough.

Care to explain why?
Because it just makes sense. Mewtwo's been in Smash Bros. before, and of all the cut characters he's the most wanted to return (and he was the only one who wasn't a clone...well, "clone" in Smash Bros. terms, lol). Sakurai seems to have been really affected by the negative reaction to him being cut, as well, so I'd assume he'd want to bring him back if possible (and he has even hinted at such). Mewtwo has also become much more relevant this generation, receiving two new Mega Evolutions and being prominently featured in two movies, a special, and in the latest Pokémon games.

Also, when it comes to Pokémon newcomers, there's not really much else that seems viable. Generations V and VI don't really have any stand out Pokémon that would make sense for Smash Bros., aside from maybe Zoroark (but they wouldn't really be able to represent his signature Illusion Ability which defines Zoroark, so I doubt we'll see him), so bringing Mewtwo back really seems like the best option, and the only one that really makes sense. With his appearance in X and Y and his two Mega Evolutions, he could easily represent Generation VI, alongside Lucario and potentially Charizard with their Mega Evolutions, too. Throw in the fact that Jigglypuff can represent the new Fairy-type, that Pokémon Trainer's Kanto starters are also featured in X and Y, and that Pikachu is the mascot, and every single Pokémon character becomes a good representation for Generation VI. We don't need anything new, just bring back Mewtwo!

I imagine the best evidence that Mewtwo will be there is that Game Freak had a whole press roundtable about mega evolutions, specifically about Mewtwo, and Sakurai was there for the one line of "No comment on Smash Bros. inclusions."

I see it being pushed back but pushed back to winter

I believe someone asked the Game Freak guys if Mewtwo was going to be in Smash Bros., and as they tried skirting around the question, Sakurai shouted out from the audience, "we're thinking about it!" That's fairly telling.

He was thinking about whether to make the X and Y forms of Mewtwo one trophy or two. Remember this was when they had only publicly disclosed one form so they couldn't let on about the other one.

^I'd hate to see what that post looks like on mobile GAF.

He’d fit in perfectly.
