Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Do any Pac-Man games even have extensive music? I'm talking the older games of course that are more iconic like MegaMan had Wily's Castle, what does Pac have?

As long as he has no teeth at ALL and loses the fingers, and gets his boxing gloves back, I could care less which eyes he has.

I'm down for Pac-Man :) Just with those conditions. But Mario Kart GP Pac would be great.

Edit: Like this:

I liked that design. Like his current but a little simpler with no fingers/teeth.

I love Pac-Man's new design, it's the show I don't really like.

Hope he looks something like this!

Although, he might look more like this.

Also, for the love of god please don't let him talk.
All of his taunts should be him singing "PAC IS BAAAACK!"

I haven't played any of the World games, but I'm sure they must have some good music. Someone made this mock-up and it sounds....eh....

I think Pac-Man (and Ms. Pac-Man as an alt) would be great additions, but I hope they're not relying on him as their big E3 Smash announcement. It would be only slightly better than when they relied on Cranky Kong for VGX. He's too frequently requested to really be a big surprise and no single character (let alone one that isn't really relevant today) will excite anyone who isn't already excited.

Nothing will help paint Nintendo as the old, traditional, outdated way of doing video games more than propping up their big holiday release as the game where you can pit Mario against three other gaming mascots who have gotten less and less popular for 20 years straight.

I understand that Pac-Man, Sonic and Mega Man are still huge characters and a big part of gaming history, but Nintendo can't "win E3" with any amount of 80's or 90's mascots, so I really hope their E3 Smash blowout is more than just showing off characters, especially since the roster will already be 30+ by then.

It's a bit presumptuous to assume there's going to be a "Smash blowout" at E3. All we got for Brawl at E3 2007 was a 15 second video clip and a release date. I realize Nintendo needs all the help they can get right now, but Nintendo's stubborn and nonreactive, and they rarely do what's "expected." I think we'd be lucky to get a single newcomer.

I don't think it presumptions at all.

I think nintendo is asking for one from the dev team strait up. They need this.

A new Smash trailer is probably a given at E3... I don't think two reveals is unlikely. Little Mac, Mii, and Pac-Man would be awesome, even if they're all expected at this point.

Wasn't that the year where everything was really scaled back due to E3 changing hands or something? I know it's the year with one of the lowest attendances by a significant margin at least.

This E3 it will be formally announced that the Punch-Out!! ring is the last newcomer.

Pac-Man? Could go 50-50 imo. Can see him in, can see him not getting in at this point.

And I have a proposition for any brave soul. An avatar bet on Ridley's playable status. If he is playable, I win, if he isn't, you win. PM me if interested.

It's weird to think that, depending on how many characters actually end up being in the complete roster, we may already have half to more than half of the characters revealed. I don't think a 40-45 character roster is out of the question, though I am of course hoping for a number closer to 50.

The sense of development progress with this game has been so weird. We know it's been in development for 2-3 years now, but we saw nothing of it until last year's E3, and we still know almost nothing about it except for 22 of the characters in the roster, which may or may not be half or the majority of them. It's all just so weirdly vague!

What's with the sudden influx of PacMan talk?

Most of us are pretty certain that he's going to be the next/final third-party character in the roster, though some of us are holding onto the possibility that Snake may return. I, personally, don't think he will.

Since I already set myself with very low expectation so I expected myself to see 45 characters roster. The game haven't been in development for 2 years YET, so 2-3 years is pretty much incorrect. Here is my old post.

I would like to toss one quote here.

As Sakurai ended his talk, the crowd gave him a big round of applause. In the rush to get Sakurai off-stage, we overheard him being asked a question about the possibility of downloadable content for Brawl in the future. As we heard it, although Sakurai would have liked to do it, it was not possible due to the lack of hard drive on the Wii.

My takes on Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Schedule
  • Sakurai probably started on brainstorming phase in Jan 2012, and finalized his roster plan and design document in March 2012.
  • Namco Bandai and Sora, LTD probably started working on the games somwhen during April or May 2012, which would explain that they have completed prototype in their hands during June 2012.
