999

I was going to list a handful of games with great endings...but then I decided to just focus on the one that is heads and shoulders the best videogame ending ever. Its GOD TIER and honestly in a complete league of its own. If you wanna prove that videogames are capable of fantastic narratives, this is the game to prove it. Absolutely everyone on GAF needs to experience it. I doubt a game will ever surpass the sheer concentrated brilliance of the true ending to 999. Both clever and surprising, its quite simply the best plot twist/ending Ive experienced in any medium. I cant shower it with enough praise!
Persona 4's ending makes you wish you could forget the entire game just to replay it fresh all over again.
Sigh, when I see posts like this, I just want to go buy 999 (and VLR) right now. I was initially turned off by the gameplay as I've never been into those types of games, but... if the story is as good as everyone says it is, I really want to check it out.
Tie between 999 and The Last of Us. The latter for maturity and emotional resonance that is rarely found in gaming, the former for being like Lost if everything had been meticulously planned and came together in the end with a perfect fucking bow on top.
Close third goes to Walking Dead s1. Hell, make it a three-way tie. And MGS3 close after that.
1. P4G - Golden Epilogue is just perfect.
2. Valkyria Chronicles -Such a heartwarming scene at the end when you see Welkin, Alicia and their daughter.
Please do. There's a good reason why the game is showered with so much praise and why we get a LTTP thread like every second week. It really is mind blowing. When you know something is as special as this game you just wanna share it.
Just curious, how hard is getting the true ending? I mean, is it something I would have to use a guide/walkthrough for or no? Even though I almost never use walkthroughs, for a game like that, I'd really be tempted to since I am just after the story (and the gameplay doesn't interest me that much). But I dunno, I'd really just have to give it a go. I tried a browser-based demo of the game once. It was kind of interesting, but hard to tell based on that short demo.
