Many people would disagree, but I simply love the good ending to Bioshock 1, it was surprisingly a heartwarming moment in a very grim game.

God damn that was a solid ending. I felt good after that.
Final Fantasy 6 ending was solid.
Final Fantasy 10 as well. Glad I just bought HD today.
GTAV
Dead Space. One of my favorite final boss fights this gen. So old school.
Alpha Protocol. Those choices.
Chrono Trigger

Now there are some endings I enjoyed for the aesthetic.
I am a sucker for the final areas of Lost Planet 2.

MGS3 - manly tears
Twilight Princess - underrated ending... them feels
Mother 3 - Everything from New Pork City to the credits... just wow

Legend of dragoon ending was badass.
Every game ending sucks unless it has a mushroom cloud in it
I Kid

Was still badass though.

Last year my two favourite endings were in The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls both for story reasons. Terrific and emotional stuff for both of them.

The ending was kind of interesting but the more I thought about it the dumber it seemed. What was
she
supposed to do with
a baby and a lame horse
?

It was the same with Ico. I thought the ending was good until
he found Yorda on the beach.
It didn't really make sense given what had preceeded it and seemed Ueda couldn't let it end on an unhappy note.

My vote goes to TLoU. Was a happy ending but was it really? A bit more complex, just like real life.

Uncharted 2 had a great ending too. A really warm human moment between Drake and Elena.

Prince of Persia (PS2).

Had a great narrative twist on it.

Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time- gah, I still dream about it!

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - The whole story was told in a unique fashion, and the ending just made so much better. It's just a great way to finish such an epic adventure.
Kakolukia

Can't be said enough. It was the game that single-handedly revived a dying genre and catapulted Ubisoft into the public eye. It was and still is an amazing game from start to finish.

Definitely Okami. It was the perfect ending for Ammy & Issun's long journey.

Spoilers:
The people of Nippon praying for Amaterasu made me cry ;____; And that ending song.... Reset ;____;

What a goddamn incredible song. Turned right into one of my all time favorites after I finished the game for the first time all those years ago.

It was such a perfect combination of an awesome ending to a truly great game and a properly fantastic song. I really wanted to hear it in ME2 and ME3 too.

Well... ME3 ending song was from the same group that made the ME1 ending song, but I guess with what happened in the actual ending, people tend to forget about it.

Darksiders "No . Not Alone"
and then Darksiders 2 happened ..

Narratively Darksiders 2 was a bit of a cop-out, but I really enjoyed the game so I was willing to forgive it. It's a real shame we probably won't get a third instalment featuring all four horsemen together, kicking arse as a quartet.

/Sigh. What game is this then?

My favorite of all time is probably Max Payne 2.
Throughout the first two games Max talks a lot about fate, "There are no choices in life, nothing but a straight line. The illusion comes afterward when you ask 'Why me?' Or 'What if?'" He can't come to terms with the loss of his wife and daughter saying, "Killing them all (the ones responsible) didn't bring them back." Then at the end he realizes closure isn't born from revenge, but love and while he's with Mona he says, "This is love. When someone shows you there is a choice, that you can put down your gun."
And after all the dreams of his wife, walking the blood lines in the first game, and "I had a dream about my wife, in it I murdered her for my lover." After he falls for Mona, literally. At the end comes the final panel,
"I had a dream of my wife. She was dead. But it was all right."
:')

Yeah, that closing line in MP2 was really good. It gave a lot of closure to Max's story and character arc. Which doubly makes MP3 contrived and superfluous.

Kessler-Attacking-Cole.png

infamous doesn't have the best ending of all time IMO but it's one of the few games I've played where a twist is foreshadowed the entire game without becoming totally obvious - and it pays off superbly as a result

I really liked the narrative from the first two Infamous games; the way
Kessler is trying to train Cole to be ready for the Beast, but in doing so inadvertently harbours a paradox and creates the Beast himself. When John showed up in the second game it took me a few seconds to realise what was happening and realise that he was the Beast
, which actually made a lot of sense when you think about it. I don't think those two games get enough credit for their storytelling.

But clearly this is the winner. How amazing. I wonder if they were playing it straight, or intentionally going for dumb schlock.

Bioshock Infinite in recent times.

Not an ending but the credits in GTA games. I always like sitting back and watching the camera pan around parts of the city with the music playing.

Red Dead Redemption is my favorite ending for any game,
The whole game is genius, from the gameplay mechanics, to music, to story, everything is so well put together, Rockstar really gave their best (they naturally do in every game) with this. From getting together with your family, where the missions suddenly go to a calm tone, where you just do these things for your farm, you always wonder why the game didn't end, john got what he wanted.

Then, the mission "the last enemy shall be destroyed" and i thought, "does this means what i think it means?", then the cutscene starts, and his son starts talking about planes, "them machines who could turn men into angels", and when he says that, john repeats it, with the camera focused on his face. Later on, we discover what this phrase meant, when the g-men attack his farm, and he gets shot in that incredible scene. The game could've ended with the shot of his cemetery, but it kept going, 3 years later, his son comes back to this old farm, and buries his mother alongside john and uncle. you go to blackwater, and see that there's a new journal to buy, you get it and discover what happened to the people you encountered during john's journey. but there's little article in this journal, about how edgar ross got a chest full of medals (like john got his chest full of bullets) and how he defeated the menacing dutch van der line gang, including john in this article.

Then, there's this last stranger mission, where you go after edgar ross through the whole landmass of the game, even down to mexico, where you finally meet him. You finally confront him, kill him, and jack just look at his gun, probably thinking "that's it?" and he turns around, facing the camera, and a guitar riff accompanies the RED DEAD REDEMPTION title card. then deadman's gun starts playing during the credits.

Holy fuck, this ending sent chills down my spine. The game goes full circle with the title (which is one of the most badass titles of history, RED DEAD REDEMPTION), john gets his redemption giving his life to his family. and you see the bittersweet fate of jack, where he becomes what his father never wanted, an outlaw. John died with the old west and as an outlaw to society. even the fucking slogan for this is perfect. Outlaws to the end
Damn, I couldn't have said it better. Probably my favourite game last gen.

Other favs are ME1 and ME2

Ocarina of Time for the EVERYTHING.

Mass Effect for the build up to the end and the credits song.

Seiken Densetsu 3 for all the endings. So satisfying for a SNES game.

+ I imagine Ni No Kuni will have a solid ending in which to bask. Can't wait to get back into it.

Journey
Crisis Core: FF7
Xenosaga 3(Good night)

And the mother of all endings: Terranigma

Aye. The ending of Terranigma is one of the most bittersweet endings out there. Fantastic game and it was one hell of a solid finish to the Blazer Trilogy. Oh how I would love to see Quintet back together, somehow, somewhere.

Final Fantasy IX; ]For Zidane and Garnet it was great, bittersweet for Vivi. Still a feelgood ending.
Ocarina of Time, Spec Ops The Line (gentleman, welcomes to Dubai), 999, Silent Hill Shattered Memories...

Top Bottom
