I love it when someone nails it and I can just "Damn straight" my way through a thread.

Have to mention sotc as well...so epic and powerfull while also being so sad...

Mafia 1 ("Mr. Salieri sends his regards.")
Planescape: Torment
Mass Effect 1 (sci-fi at it's best)
Max Payne 2
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

I guess Tales of series don't really have nice plots and stories hahaha!

Tales of Legendia, Phantasia, and Destiny. At least for me!

TLOU, P4G, Soul Sacrifice,

Xenosaga ep III

Edit- I also loved Final Fantasy IX's ending mostly because they managed to keep it fun and lighthearted

edit-edit - talking about final cutscenes specifically

So many great ones worth repeating.

Hitman Blood Money is one of the greatest.

Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time- gah, I still dream about it!

Max Payne 2- fave of all time, most certainly.

Red Dead Redemption- so, so great!

the witcher 1 had a nice twist.
All game long, Geralt is searching for the "true" enemy, the mastermind behind the events that kick off his quest. The identity reveal during the ending was quite unexpected.
I also love that your choices throughout the game dictate the final events.
(how you fight your way through the city, the survivors you meet, which person will help you, etc.)
Alpha Protocol had the same thing going for it.

my playthrough in Witcher 2 has nice events leading to the ending as well,
- I chose Triss over the Princess, so I had Geralt condemn a nation to war for love.
He also had to fight alone against a troop of the Nilfgaard elite to save her, the best fighters in the most powerful empire in the witcher lore. No other fight in the first 2 games showed Geralt's bad-assery as much as that fight.
- Then I had to kill Saskia.
- Which leads to the final event where I let Letho go, I spent the whole game hunting him and I let him go. Why? because there is a greater evil afoot, and I might need his help.
- love the grey morality in this series :)

Mass Effect 1 ending was Epic.
Seeing Sovereign ramming the Citadel
was one of my gaming highlights this gen

Someone mentioned the ending of earthbound where you are free to roam the world and talk to all the people you met, I love that.

Red Dead Redemption,
Marston's Death, controlling his son to ride to mexico one last time.
I even love the "house chores" quests you had to do before all that :)

Suikoden 2.
- you won the war but still one last thing to do,
a duel with a friend
- I like that there a mini-summary regarding what happened to your troops after the war.

Saints Row 3 - I need a hero :)

999 and Ever 17 had mindblowing endings.

Spec Ops : The Line (not only the ending though, but the whole last chapters)
Killzone ShadowFall
Mass Effect 3 (Despite the ABC choice i really enjoyed it)
All Metal Gear Solid Ones
God Of War III
Persona 4

These are recent ones that i remember

Pandora's Tower
Dragon's Dogma
E.X.TROOPERS
Trinity Soul of Zill O'll
Fatal Frame 4
Alundra
Vagrant Story
The Last Story
Twilight Princess
Folklore
Eternal Darkness (Final Ending)

I could never pick which of them i like best; but these are my favorite endings of all time. I like a good long mindful ending; that make you say "Wow!" with a face like This O_O!!

Castlevania Lords of Shadow, Seriously that after credits scene made me go crazy, it was sooooo good, that I felt I had to replay the whole game again.

Gabriel becoming Dracul, and the possibility of the sequel being about Dracul, it was like my dream is coming true

Second sight for the PS2

The entire game being a premonition, normally would feel like a cop out but was so amazing, my first ever real experience with a real plot twist that shockered.

Yeah, Second Sight's ending was pulled off so well. Definitely one of the most memorable for me.

Nier (all of them)
Drakengard 1 and 2 (depressing endings are great too :P)
Trinity soul of Zill o'll
MGS 4
P4G
Chrono Trigger
Tales of Xillia
Valkyrie Profile (true ending)
TLOU

I guess Tales of series don't really have nice plots and stories hahaha!

I'll bite.

I like Abyss' somewhat ambiguous ending leaving a bit more to the imagination.

Other Tales titles are just kinda where an ending happens... it's usually happy, maybe a twist (but nothing that'd spin the game's concept or plot on its head).

Then you get a title like Vesperia where the ending was about 2 minutes, and the still images in the credits were almost as interesting as the game's plot itself.

The original Mass Effect 3 ending. It was a perfect ending to the saga and pretty much the only way it could truly end. Starchild was annoying but I think neccessary for the cycle.

Persona 4 Golden. I've never been connected to characters like that before so once I got to the epilogue it was definitely bittersweet.

Portal 2
Red Dead Redemption
HL2: Episode Two
Uncharted 2
MGS3
Shadow of the Colossus
Bioshock Infinite
The Last of Us
Journey

Perhaps not coincidently all of these endings are really sad and poignant.

From last generation it's probably Bioshock Infinite, Mass Effect 1, Infamous and maybe Read Dead Redemption.

Best endings of all time:

Deus Ex
Half-Life 1/2
Final Fantasy 7 & 10
EverQuest: Scars of Velious (doesn't really have an ending - but waking The Sleeper/Kerafyrm was insane)
The Last of Us
Journey

This generation:
Journey
The Last of Us
Spec Ops: The Line
Bioshock Infinite
Mass Effect Trilogy (I only played the new version of ME3, and I liked the ending/s)

Mass Effect 1 and 2. Two great endings and final missions. Sad that Mass Effect 3 ending and final mission couldn't be the same. Hopefully, Mass Effect "4" will rectify that.

Persona 4's ending makes you wish you could forget the entire game just to replay it fresh all over again.

This exactly. I loved exploring the world and learning about everyone in it. Those connections man made me want to stick around forever.

The final boss fight, while not all that hard, felt perfect tho with how everything happened leading up to it.

Read Dead Redemption
Mass Effect 1
Ocarina of Time
KOTOR 1
Halo 1/3
Bioshock Infinite
The Walking Dead season 1

Red Dead Redemption is my favorite ending for any game,
The whole game is genius, from the gameplay mechanics, to music, to story, everything is so well put together, Rockstar really gave their best (they naturally do in every game) with this. From getting together with your family, where the missions suddenly go to a calm tone, where you just do these things for your farm, you always wonder why the game didn't end, john got what he wanted.

Then, the mission "the last enemy shall be destroyed" and i thought, "does this means what i think it means?", then the cutscene starts, and his son starts talking about planes, "them machines who could turn men into angels", and when he says that, john repeats it, with the camera focused on his face. Later on, we discover what this phrase meant, when the g-men attack his farm, and he gets shot in that incredible scene. The game could've ended with the shot of his cemetery, but it kept going, 3 years later, his son comes back to this old farm, and buries his mother alongside john and uncle. you go to blackwater, and see that there's a new journal to buy, you get it and discover what happened to the people you encountered during john's journey. but there's little article in this journal, about how edgar ross got a chest full of medals (like john got his chest full of bullets) and how he defeated the menacing dutch van der line gang, including john in this article.

Then, there's this last stranger mission, where you go after edgar ross through the whole landmass of the game, even down to mexico, where you finally meet him. You finally confront him, kill him, and jack just look at his gun, probably thinking "that's it?" and he turns around, facing the camera, and a guitar riff accompanies the RED DEAD REDEMPTION title card. then deadman's gun starts playing during the credits.

Holy fuck, this ending sent chills down my spine. The game goes full circle with the title (which is one of the most badass titles of history, RED DEAD REDEMPTION), john gets his redemption giving his life to his family. and you see the bittersweet fate of jack, where he becomes what his father never wanted, an outlaw. John died with the old west and as an outlaw to society. even the fucking slogan for this is perfect. Outlaws to the end

Yes, i will gush over this game as much as i can. I was in a really sad state when i first played it. and i lived that world as much as i could. and still do. This game made me love rockstar to a whole new level. Not just the story mind you, but everything in it was amazing for me.

There's a lot of amazing endings in gaming though

From extremely satisfying ones like gta vice city, gta V, ocarina of time, majora's mask, resident evil 4, mgs 1, grim fandango, monkey island 1, day of the tentacle the uncharted series and phoenix wright series and many others. to downright sad or bittwersweet ones like The last of us, mgs 3 , gta iv, shadow of the colossus, and many many others. there the whole mindblowing endings like mgs 2 and bioshock infinite for example.

The half life endings and portal endings also gave me a lot of feelings. valve is great with that

One of my favourite endings is the Yakuza 3 finale. Just going all badass, bare back tattoo showing, fighting on the top of a skyscraper.

MGS3 - Who didn't shed a tear.
Bioshock: Infinite - I sat for days contemplating the ending.
Resident Evil 4: Such a rush at the end, massive relief.

Many more, but these are the ones that spring to mind currently.

NieR - ending D.

But I can't remember why.

What you did there. I see it.

I support all of these.

Shadow of the Colossus (though the controls and camera are terrible)
Red Dead (so good)
FFVI
Chrono Trigger
Bioshock Infinite
Dragon Age Origins (more for the ending sequence more than the actual ending)
TLOU
