Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Pic of the day. When Lucario shoots out Aura from its hands to fly with ExtremeSpeed, you can control its flight direction. If Lucario's Aura is fully charged, it can fly extremely far, so be careful not to accidentally launch out of the area.

So he can get a much better recovery when knocked off the stage if he charges it beforehand? That's a cool feature

I've played Project M quite a few times. It's quite fun, I got to do lovely Melee Marth combos and flashy edgeguards, but then I just resumed back to Brawl (as my friends/brothers only play it) and some Melee.

There are a few character changes that I'm not a fan of, and Project M as a whole right now is a little too overwhelming for me; it's like a majority of the cast I'm so used to have evolved into combo and chain grab beasts, so my personal development on a lot of characters just goes out the window as their "game" is now different.

Then I take it you don't like Melee or 64 either?

Better yet, just delete the ones you don't like instead of the whole folder. Here's a list of the stage names as they appear on your SD card.

It's not that simple, you gotta delete the .REL files that correspond with the stage you're getting rid of in the module folder. Then, so you aren't confused about the stages when you go to the stage selection screen, you gotta replace the preview image, selection image, and the names in the common5.pac located in the system folder.

Add Lucario to the list along with Bowser, Rosalina, Megaman, and Villager. Buffs, buffs for everyone! ^^ I do like that Lucario is getting improved, I'll definitely give him more playtime if he is as good as he looks

If everyone is getting a buff that means Metaknight is.....oh god.

yes, and your justification was that normal Brawl didn't have them, which is essentially a fallback to developer's intent
I'm not cherrypicking anything

My "fallback" was in response to "what IF giving a slow ass character in a slow as molasses game combos just for the sake of giving them combos was the developer's intent?".

And even then, I absolutely don't see why I'm supposed to have a "rationale" when I already, multiple times, said that I just don't like how it plays.

You want my justification why I don't like Project M? I don't like it. There. That's my justification. I have no rationale. I just do not like it.

So stop being a dick.

Regarding Project M... I've played it with a friend of mine and I really don't care for it. While I appreciate the smoothness of the gameplay compared to Brawl, it's too fast for my taste (somewhere in between Melee and Brawl in terms of speed would be perfect for me, and luckily it seems like that's what we're getting with this next game) and I really don't like that they changed up characters' move sets so much. And I understand that it's a mod to make Brawl more like Melee, but I find it completely silly that they pretty much just reverted many characters' move sets back to how they were in Melee, reverting characters that were de-cloned in Brawl back to clones. Just...why?! It annoys me that they split up Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon (with no working Final Smash for any of them) with no option to use normal Pokémon Trainer with all three Pokémon, too. And that the Superspicy Curry item is replaced by some Turbo item... And then there's the stages...ugh. I don't understand why they threw in a Castlevania stage, too, especially since there's no Simon Belmont. It just seems very out of place.

I guess my point is that there are too many unnecessary changes, in my opinion. I guess the mod's just not for me. But there's one thing that I really, really like about the mod, and that's that it added back Mewtwo, Roy, and Dr. Mario. The only one I really care about of the three is Mewtwo, and I wish there was a way to play a mod of normal Brawl with everything like it is normally...except with Mewtwo added into the roster like he is in Project M. Is there any way to do this?! I've tried Googling it but came up with nothing.

Donkey Kong got a buff too, right? I seem to remember Sakurai saying he was one of the strongest characters as one point.

hasn't he always been one of the strongest characters in terms of power?
so I doubt that means anything

you should probably calm down

Meta Knight confirmed for bottom tier
LOL yeah right, a Sakurai character being bottom tier... except for Kirby from Melee

Palutena top tier confirmed

Sakurai has now buffed Lucario, Pit, Bowser, Samus and (arguably) Link, to name a few.

Sakurai better buff the heck out of Ness when he gets revealed. I love that guy, and even though he possesses arguably some of the best aerials in Brawl, the vast majority of his other moves are lacking.

But what about the bat D= ? That thing had bite to it.

I'm really hoping that if Wolf comes back, he gets his moveset buffed/changed. My main in Brawl, but with no great specials..

Project M is just that game where learning your matchups are essential to winning and beating out your opponent.

It's overwhelming because there's no real distinction between good or bad characters and all characters in the game have options that support or harm them in certain matchups.

In Melee, you could just play Space Animals and be well off since the you only needed to follow a few matchups that would potentially wreck you.

In Project M, it's so much more complex and it's amazing because you don't know if you have a sure fire shot at winning until you do. The matchups are out there and it makes every competitive match much more interesting to watch.

It allows for casuals to get the same uncertainty as 2 high level Fox players dishing out at each other.

That's the main thing I love about Project M and although it's not for everyone, they did one hell of a good job with distinguishing the strengths and weaknesses of a character.

If you're new to Project M modding, shoot me a message or give my PM mod a try: Project M: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold and if you have questions about modding feel free. If you want to edit my build to fit your tastes whether it's CSS/CSP, music, models, or textures go ahead.

That said, I hope SSB4 gets the match ups right. From the looks of it, they're just buffing people and making characters stronger and balancing it Mahvel style by overpowering everyone.

All of these blue character backgrounds are becoming difficult to tell apart!

Seriously, how many hex triplet digits separate Rosalina's background and Lucario's background?

Project M uses special, closed-source engines to put Mewtwo and Roy back in as well as to add alternate costumes without using up costume slots, so you wouldn't be able to simply play Brawl+clones.

Some of the out of place elements of PM, like Dracula's Castle, are primarily due to its long development. It's a bit out of place, sure, but it's also fun, and it's easy enough to replace it with an equivalent Luigi's Mansion stage, or just revert it to Brawl's Luigi's Mansion.

And they literally only "reverted" one character, Falco. And that was because the entire project began as a project to make Falco play as well as he did in Melee, because while he may have had a few moveset alternations in Brawl it only served to hurt him as a character. And if you play Falco and Fox for more than a few seconds it would be obvious that they play completely differently, so...

And if anything they further differentiated the "clone" characters. Lucas and Ness play completely differently, and TLink has a lot more to immediately differentiate himself from Link.

Pokemon Trainer is an issue of balance - it would be extremely difficult to make a well-balanced character, or a character that was fun at all to play at a high level, with Brawl's PT gimmick. In splitting the three they make one not-fun character into three fun, fully fleshed-out characters. It was an obvious choice, though I can see why some people dislike it.

I can understand where people would be turned off by PM's stages, but even then... it's not like they're not fun to play on, and it still has a much better stage roster than the mess that Brawl had. Just slide on over to page 2 if you like your stages with hazards and the like.

everything after the first paragraph will fall on deaf ears

But what about the bat D= ? That thing had bite to it.

I'm really hoping that if Wolf comes back, he gets his moveset buffed/changed. My main in Brawl, but with no great specials..

I like his bat forward smash, although it could be a little quicker. I also love how it's a reflector when you time the swing just right. It's his yo-yo's that I find are too situational. They're extremely weak, relatively slow, cannot charge and in Brawl they're not so good for set-ups into other moves either (as Ness has faster, more reliable options)...

I really hope Wolf comes back too, he's one of my favourites; I think Sakurai did an amazing job with him (his aerials, tilts and smashes work very well), though his up special recovery definitely needs to be revamped because of how useless it is. I really like the rest of his specials after that (though if down-b got buffed to halt momentum that would be heavenly).

All Sakurai needs to do is replace Fludd with Firebrand. Make that like move that you can charge and it like glides you forward with a powerful ball of fire energy in your hand.

Noooooo, he needs to replace FLUDD with the OG down-special, Mario Tornado.

I disliked FLUDD in Brawl, and would prefer the return of the Mario Tornado and the down-air drill attack, but I'll give Sakurai the benefit of the doubt with Smash 4 improving FLUDD.

Is Yoshi's side-b move considered useless? It's just a weaker roll-out.

A lot of moves are considered useless competitively.

Rollout is just too situational, unreliable, and weak to be used in a combo.
But feel free to use it for invincibility and gimmicks. It's nice to see stuff like that once in a while.

Pic of the day. When Lucario shoots out Aura from its hands to fly with ExtremeSpeed, you can control its flight direction. If Lucario's Aura is fully charged, it can fly extremely far, so be careful not to accidentally launch out of the area.

Look at those chemtrails! Lucario is a member of the Illuminati!

He replaced the tornado probably to make Mario more different from Luigi.

FLUDD would be useful if it had the stuff that came with it from Super Mario Sunshine , you know the nozzles. With FLUDD all you can do is squirt people and low chance of actually utitlizing it.It would be nice , if Mario got a strong attack added to his arsenal.

Seconded, this is his time to shine. He's gotten the short end of the stick three times in a row now.
